Huawei Ascend P6

Huawei this morning from London announced the Ascend P6 smartphone, a ridiculously thin 4.7-inch Android device.

The thinness is Huawei's lead bullet point here, with the phone measuring in at a mere 6.18 mm. It's sporting a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor and runs Android 4.2.2. The LCD display proclaims to have "MagicTouch" -- basically meaning you can rock gloves with this guy.

Camera-wise, the Ascend P6 has an 8-megapixel shooter out back with an f/2.0 aperture. It's also sporting a full 5-megapixel camera out front, so your duckface pics will have a higher resolution than ever before.

We're live from the launch event in London. Be sure to check our liveblog!

The whole thing is powered by a 2,000 mAh battery. Huawei also has its own user interface on board. It'll come in black, white and pink, with matching cases. Expect it in China this month, and Western Europe in July from Vodafone, Telefonica, Orange, H3G, O2, Carphone Warehouse, TalkTalk, Media Markt & Saturn, TIM and online.

Huawei announces the Ascend P6

Quite good, but... Another shovel. Why?
There are no 4 inch devices with 720p/1080p res. and good hardware.
What are the marketing deps being payed for?

You share the wants and needs of the minority regarding smartphones. Proven millions of times over. Even iOS was forced to grow to keep it's customers happy. A high end 4" Android device would be a niche market success at best, and much more likely a flop.

Suck it up and be happy with 4.3 inchers. Somehow the good ones on that size aren't making it to U.S. bit they do exist.

They'll get there eventually.
But that battery and 8mpx job spells mid range, And there's no way it will come with more than 16GB onboard, which you'll actually be lucky if you get in the first place.
Huawei were showing promise when the announced the P1 and D1, but they've been dragging their heels the whole time, even if they came up with a top phone, they have to solve the problem of their inability to get it to market.

I can't be alone in hoping companies would stop trying to release thinner phones and use an extra bit of thickness to put in a massive battery instead.

I would be more than happy for a phone the size of the Nexus 4 for example, but with a larger capacity battery ala Motorola Maxx or CPU technology being developed more for economical battery use rather than speed

where are the buttons? dont see them at all so i'm assuming either side of the Huawei logo like HTC did with the One. Also, the likeness to the iphone really turns me off from these devices. even the icons have that "look" but i guess not so much with iOS 7 coming. i'm android fan through and through so i guess it just bothers me that with all the creative juices in this world, why don't they have original icons? or even an original shape of the top of the phone. ugh!

very nice looking device and the specs are awesome

but that 2000mah battery is a deal-breaker for me
a 6.1 screen and quad processor require AT LEAST 3000mah!

I'm gonna say it: it looks like an iPhone, especially the edges.

What's the screen resolution? It says it's high-def, but does that mean 720x1280, or 1080x1920, or what?

All new designs are welcomed to the Android fold and granted not a phone that is going to please all people.
This is not for me but a nice design and some good features for those offered this via an upgrade by their providers
