HTC sends affordable Desire 516 to Europe to tackle Moto G

HTC's more entry level Desire 516 will land in August in Europe to take on Motorola's Moto G and other budget handsets. The phone will be arriving in Austria and Switzerland and will cost around $270 or €199 unlocked and contract-free in either white or grey hues.

For its price, the Desire 516 won't have the high-end specs that you would expect to see on more flagship handsets, like the HTC One M8. Instead, it will have a 5-inch qHD resolution screen, quad-core Snapdragon 200 processor alongside 1 GB of RAM, 4 GB storage, and a combo of 5-megapixel rear and 2-megapixel front cameras.

For comparison, the Moto G Google Play edition starts at $170 and comes with double the storage while packing in a better Snapdragon 400 processor. That phone has a 5-megapixel rear camera coupled with a 1.3-megapixel front camera and a smaller 4.5-inch display that is a bit more high resolution with a 720p HD screen.

Additionally, the Desire 516 ships with Jelly Bean rather than Android KitKat out of the box so it won't be powered by the latest edition of HTC's Sense user interface.

The phone is also currently available in China and India.
