Amazon Instant Video on a Kindle Fire HDX

The first wave of HBO shows on Amazon Instant Video just went live, including big-name shows like The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire, True Blood, The Wire, Deadwood, Six Feet Under, Big Love, and Rome. Prime subscribers are getting access to a whole bunch of other great shows that will never be coming to Netflix, as Amazon has locked down HBO as an exclusive as far as online-only streaming services go. HBO Go will be coming to the Fire TV later this year. And while Amazon still doesn't have an Instant Video app for Android, those of you with Kindle Fire tablets have it built in, and there's also an Amazon Instant Video app for Google TV

Here's a full list of the TV shows, movies, comedies, and documentaries from HBO Go now available via Amazon:

  • The Sopranos
  • The Wire
  • Deadwood
  • Rome
  • Six Feet Under
  • Eastbound & Down
  • Enlightened
  • Flight of the Conchords
  • True Blood
  • Boardwalk Empire
  • Treme
  • Band of Brothers
  • The Pacific
  • John Adams
  • Parade's End
  • Angels in America
  • Mary and Martha
  • Temple Grandin
  • You Don't Know Jack
  • Louis CK
  • Ellen DeGeneres
  • Lewis Black
  • Bill Maher
  • When the Levees Broke
  • Ghosts of Abu Ghraib

Amazon says this is just the first wave, so we're obviously eager to see what else they release in the near future. How many of you guys use Amazon Instant Video? For those that don't, would shows like these get you to subscribe? How about switch from Netflix altogether?

HBO shows start arriving in Amazon Instant Video, just as promised

I'm actually already a Prime member. I cancelled my membership when they increased the fees. Without an android app for Amazon Instant, this isn't a value add for me. The interface for the app on my old Roku sucks, and I prefer using my Chromecast now anyway. So no, adding additional content without providing that content on my device doesn't make me any more likely to sign back up.

Come on Amazon, where's the Android app for instant video?? got my Sony Ultra Z for a little streaming.

They're likely stalling on that in an effort to sell more Kindles. Luckily my Xbox 360 has an app for Amazon!

I already have Prime, but this makes it even better. I do wish they had included Game of Thrones however.

I'm a Prime member also. I use this service quite often. (4 or 5 times a week). I think it's better than Netflix.

Galaxy S4

I subscribe to the 3 major streaming companies, Netflix, A. Prime, and Hulu. Not having the streaming ability for my Android on the go is really overdue. How about we put down the FireTV for a minute amazon and get us ol' Android using fools some stream action, eh?

they cost extra, or at least they do on Amazon UK.
don't know about the US (which i presume is where you are)

Its a joke that Amazon hasn't released a Android app yet. Absolutely shocking. They use Google's Android wouldn't you be able to side load the apk from Amazon market?

They don't want to because they want people to buy Amazon tablets and the Fire TV. I'll try sideloading the APK on my tablet later today.

With a seemingly impending Amazon smartphone on the way, it's probably even less likely that we'll see an Android app for Prime video streaming anytime soon. I'll continue to watch it on my PS3 though.

If they wanted people to buy Fire tablets and TVs they wouldn't be supporting iOS devices and so many consoles and streamers. There is literally no rational reason for Amazon to blackball Android. None.

Android sites really shouldn't be running free advertising for Amazon since Amazon doesn't support Android. No, the fact that Android lurks under the skin of Fire devices doesn't count.

Transmitted via sheer force of will.

I just bought the Fire TV. Worth every penny if you have a prime membership. My kid loves it. Has not stopped watching since we received the box. I have to throw him out of the room so I can watch
