Motorola adds 'Profiles' with Droid Pro

14

We briefly touched on this during our initial Motorola Droid Pro hands-on, but it's worth revisiting. Motorola is adding "profiles" with the Droid Pro. It's basically a trio of preset home screens, wallpapers and widgets -- home, work and weekend. It's along the same lines as the HTC Sense Scenes and Sprint ID, and it's good to see them come to Motorola. Watch more Motorola Droid Pro how-to videos here

Samsung Continuum $199 after contract, rebate

7

We know just about everything there is to know about the Samsung Continuum -- we brought you the first full hands-on and first video preview, there's also the launch date -- and now, finally, pricing. The dual-screen Android smartphone will cost $199.99 after two-year contract and rebate. (Update: That confirms Engadget's earlier report) That goes up to $269 after rebate and a one-year deal (that's not bad at all!) and $579 outright.

Now all we need is the phone to, you know, actually be announced. And that's going to happen Monday.

New Dell Streak commercial shows the many uses of the device

23

The Dell Streak has been spotted in a new commercial that's jam packed with various use cases for the device. It's cool to see an ad featuring the Streak since there haven't been that many since its release. An interesting point about this commercial is that it doesn't mention any carriers, only that it is sold by Dell and Best Buy. Check it out for yourself after the break!

Sprint LG Optimus S unboxed, rooted

6

Before the Internet and YouTube, nobody had any interest in watching someone else open boxes.  Now, it's practically a rite of passage.

Our very own KSmithInNY scored the Sprint version of LG's Optimus line, the Optimus S, two days ahead of launch.  He was kind enough to post his initial thoughts and some unboxing photos on our forums.

But this is Android Central. Anyone can nab an early handset and snap some pictures; our readers root them the same day.  Kevin rooted his Optimus S and created an excellent guide for everyone looking to pick one of these up on Sunday.

If you're interested in reading about the newest member of Sprint's Android family, head on over to our Optimus S Forums and check out his impressions. (Thanks Kevin!)  [Android Central Forums]

New Sprint Evo 4G models will have different software version

22

The admin at the official Sprint Community forums has made a small, but good-to-know announcement about the Evo 4G and the software version numbering.  Sprint says Evos sold in November will have a different software version number than previous units.  New models will have a software number of 3.30.651.2, and older models will have 3.29.651.5.  This is due to a parts difference, and both versions are fully able to get further updates.  No idea what the new part is, but Sprint assures us it won't change the user experience.

If you buy an Evo this month, tap the menu button > Settings > About phone > Software information, and you can check your version number.  [Sprint Community] Thanks, Edgar!

What's SamsungOmar so excited about?

21

As long as we're spending our Friday night reading tea leaves and interpreting tweets, let's look at one more. The above comes from Samsung's Omar Khan, chief strategy officer and senior vice president of products and services with Samsung. He's the guy we saw on stage at the Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab events. And he's "using an amazing new device to be revealed to all soon."

Is this the mythical Nexus 2/Nexus S (now believed to be delayed)? Don't think so. More likely it's the Samsung Continuum, expected to be officially unveiled Monday in New York City. (We'll be there!) Of course, it's possible he's not talking about an Android phone. But are there any "amazing new devices" out there that aren't rocking our beloved operating system? [Twitter]

Android Central App Version 2.0 brings a host of improvements

17

Fresh out of the oven comes the official Android Central App, version 2.0. It's been a little while since the initial release, and we've definitely been listening to all of your feedback.

Here's what you have to look forward to in the latest version:

  • Updated graphics to match the website.
  • That pesky ad (hey, we have to pay the bills) has been anchored to the bottom of the screen, it's not nearly as sensitive now, and the appropriate parties have been flogged.
  • There's an all-new alert framework for those of you on Android 2.2 that should make alerts much more alerty.
  • Podcasts are fixed again, so you can listen to them in-app.

As always, if you have any problems or suggestions, leave them for our developer (Notice Software) in our developer's forums.

Verizon internal screens confirm Droid 2 Global launch on Nov. 11

9

Everyone's pretty certain that the Droid 2 Global will be launching on Nov. 11, but we love confirmation.  These shots from Verizon internal systems are music to our ears ... err, eyes.  Above you see both colors with a big "coming soon" label attached, and after the break we have shots of both colors with that Nov 11 date in tow.  1.2 GHz? Check.  Two colors? Check.  Do want? Check.  Hit the break to see the other shots.  Thanks, you-know-who!
