Have a rather large family and looking to get them all on an Android device? If so, U.S. Cellular has launched a new family sized promo that may be of interest. Looks like you can add Adobe Flash to the list of features the Motorola Xoom won't have when it launches this week on Verizon. In addition to missing LTE data and access to the microSD card, you'll find yourself Flashless when if you pick up the first Honeycomb Android tablet this week. Motorola confirmed to us today that the footnote on Verizon's Xoom page is, indeed (and sadly) correct.

As for when we'll see Flash on the Xoom? The Verizon footnote says "Expected Spring 2011." Adobe's certified devices page says "Early 2011." [Verizon, Adobe]

You'll have to excuse us if we tend to think that anytime a carrier says it has a new phone on the way it'll be an Android phone. But seeing as how around these here parts when it rains it pours, we've got a better than average chance of seeing a new Android device announced this Thursday.

What will it be? A follow-up to the still wildly popular HTC Evo? Another Samsung device? More 4G? Something with three screens? (Ooooo, sorry.) Windows Phone 7? Pre 3? We'll just have to see, won't we. [@sprint] More in our Rumored Devices forum

One of our favorite drinking games is "Guess the OS version." Someone plops down a phone in front of the "Roach" (the person who's guessing), and they have to, well, guess. When someone throws a Nokia phone into the mix, well, it's gonna be a long night. And it's starting to get to be that way with Android versions, too.

And that brings us to Gingerbread. So far, Android 2.3 is the only official Gingerbread version to have been released, and only on the Nexus S. Android Community confirms something we've heard as well -- that Android 2.4 also will be in the Gingerbread family. And we'll go one further -- Android 2.3 is only for the Nexus S. Any of the new phones you buy, and likely anything that gets an upgrade will hit Android 2.4 out the door. That's not unprecedented -- Android 2.0 (and Android 2.0.1) was only seen on the Motorola Droid; everything else hopped on up to Android 2.1 when the time came.

So you'll really want to be looking for the Android 2.4 version of Gingerbread in the coming weeks and months, and then things will get really interesting with whatever the "I" version of Android turns out to be called.. One way or another, we're not really reading too much into this quite yet, but it's worth noting just so we can all keep our OS versions straight -- and to try to keep from hitting the floor first.

Verizon has released a new update to its V CAST Music app that finally brings MP3s, ringtones, and ringback tones under the same roof. Notably the MP3s will come without DRM and in high-quality. Other new features added include a wish list for storing songs for later purchase and the ability to send a song recommendation to friends, which will open the song's purchase page in the app. Verizon notes that some of their Android offerings come with the app pre-installed while others can simply go to the Verizon section of the Android Market and find the app there. 

While the MP3s are competitively priced at either $.99 or $1.29, ringback tones will set you back $1.99, and ringtones are an astounding $2.99. So, while you could pay about $4 for a single MP3 and its ringtone, you could decide to save a little money and make a ringtone or notification sound yourself from any MP3 right on your phone. There was another Samsung slider on Sprint, long before anyone ever heard of the Epic 4G -- the Samsung Moment.  It had pretty good hardware for it's day, with an AMOLED screen and an 800 MHz CPU, but the software left a little to be desired.  Officially, it was updated to Android 2.1 and Sprint and Samsung were done with it.

But not everyone gave up on the Moment, and despite some pretty serious software bugs, it still has a thriving development community.  And now they have succeeded in putting Froyo on it, basically from scratch.  Using the Acclaim R880 and Intercept kernel sources and software, the only serious bug left to overcome seems to be the GPS.  At this point, an unreliable GPS has got to be better than toggling airplane mode 10 times a day, so if you're still rocking the Moment, you owe it to yourself to at least have a look at the source link.

This is a testament to the flexibility of Android, and the dedication of a handful of people.  My hats off to each and every person involved  Without you guys the Moment would have been doomed with a buggy, but official, Android 2.1 install forever.  [SDX Developers] Thanks Hugabu for the heads up!

Although it took a little why to go through the Twitter approval process, we're glad to let all you Twidroyd users out there know that services have now been restored. The recent suspension put in place by Twitter has been removed, and it is suggested that you grab the latest Twidroyd update if you're still seeing any issues.

As for why the popular app was suspended? UberMedia founder Bill Gross explained on Quora:

1. Twitter said that in UberTwitter and Twidroyd we use a tweet-elongation service named tmi.me that allows people to write more than 140 characters, and that this service may post private messages on a public website. At their request, we have removed this ability.

2. Twitter said that in UberCurrent we change links that are part of an affiliate program to be our own links. We don’t currently do this, but we removed all changing of links to eliminate any possibility of this.

3. Twitter said that they would like us to change the name UberTwitter, and we have changed the name to UberSocial, effective immediately.
