BlackBerry pushes first update to the Priv with camera improvements and more

The BlackBerry Priv is now receiving its first update, and it brings a number of improvements. This update, which weighs in around 475MB brings a number of welcomes improvements to the smartphone. Being the first update from BlackBerry, there are some improvements to the camera, some enhancements to security, and more. A full list of changes in this update include:

  • An improved camera: We've implemented a number of tweaks that improve the speed of our camera app, and re-tuned it for better low-light image quality.
  • Better performance: We've also tweaked the PRIV's software to improve overall system performance
  • Improved stability: The update further includes a number of adjustments designed to improve device reliability and reduce instances of crashing and freezing.
  • Enhanced security: Lastly, the release includes December's security patches – rest easy knowing your device is protected against the latest Android security threats.

The update is rolling out now over-the-air to all phones purchased from ShopBlackBerry. Carrier purchased phones will begin seeing the update on December 7. BlackBerry will also be releasing some updates to its apps in Google Play starting December 14. These include new filters for the camera, increased language support in the keyboard, Hub & Contacts gains WhatsApp support and DTEK will have more notification option.
