AT&T Galaxy S II

So the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the AT&T Galaxy S II kinda went live. Then it kinda didn't. And we've seen that happen wtih so many Samsung updates that we've kinda grown numb to it. But that doesn't mean we don't care. Here's the official word from AT&T corporate PR, which is a step or five over customer service chats.

We plan for the upgrade to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) for Galaxy S II customers to be live very soon.  Like with every OS update, we test it on our servers before we roll it out to customers.  We’re in the process of doing that with Android 4.0 (ICS) for Galaxy S II customers and hope to make that live soon.  We recommend customers wait to attempt the update.

So that's why you saw it, and now you don't. AT&T tells us it'll have more info at its consumer blog here once the update goes live. Hang in there, folks.

I told my wife that ICS was available on her phone, and for an hour she waited while I tried to hunt it down. To no avail, I couldn't find it and had to tell her that she wouldn't be getting ICS yet, and would have to wait longer.

This world hath seen no wrath like a woman that you promise ICS to, then tell them JK.

LMAO!!! I don't blame your wife. I'd be pissed too.

You can still get it. I was able to get it by following the directions in post 83 of this forum...

For the record, my phone is bone stock.

The phone runs SO much better than when on 2.3.6, the battery life is improved as well. So far, I haven't found any flaws. Be warned however, some have had problems after the update.

I just installed it from XDA :) This is one of the many reasons I always root my phones, you get updates faster, even official updates lol.

It works pretty good, but I may go back to aokp, touchwiz makes it feel likes it's still GB.

citycrazed25 says:

Root is the way to go. Aokp is way better than TW, it just feels so much better.

Sounds more like marketing to me.

"You fool! We're about to launch the SGS3, we want customers to feel like the only worthy upgrade is a SGS3."

What about Skyrocket users? Any word when we'll get an update?

I knew I should have went GSII instead of this blasted Atrix 2... ugh. I'll be waiting until 2027 until I can sign up for the soak test.

Is this update going to be simultaneous with the Rocket as well as the standard S2? My brother has the rocket and he'd be pretty happy if he knew ICS was coming in a mere days.

i was able to instal it via Kies, past Wednesday without any issues.
I have some bugs with it, but battery life is better than 2.3.6

Sometimes feels laggy at touchscreen response.
Also some apps will crash and the screen will go to total black. Some times after a minute or 2 it will be back to life. OR if isnt it will need a battery pull.

andel7539 says:

I'm not the only one having to pull the battery.

Morjesta says:

Yesterday I tried doing a firmware upgrade and initialization via Kies. Trying to downgrade to 2.3.4
But after this attempt if kept me on 4.0.3.

But i noticed after deleting all apps and start all over again, The phone works much better.
I havent pulled the battery yet. And the "laggy symptom" is gone... for now.

Also the pattern unlock screen work much better.

Also i tried removing all Launchers (Go Launcher), and the phone feels better.

Give it a try if you are tired of pulling out the battery...

Let me know, how it worked for you.

I also heard that the modem sucks for the official version. I already have android 4.0.4 with ota updates already and it runs perfect with out the tw ;)
