What you need to know

  • Some Google Pixel phones couldn't make the switch to Daylight Savings Time this past weekend due to a strange bug.
  • If your Pixel phone has also not switched to DST yet, you can try rebooting it to resolve the issue.
  • You can also set the time manually to fix the problem.

A few Pixel users in the U.S. have reported that their phones didn't automatically switch to Daylight Savings Time (DST) this past weekend. As reported by the folks over at 9to5Google, the issue also activated the Automatic home clock feature within the Clock app on Google's best Android phones. The feature is usually activated when you are "traveling in an area where the time is different."

While the bug didn't appear to be widespread, it was reported by owners of nearly all recent Pixel models: Pixel 5, Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4 series, Pixel 3a, and Pixel 3 series.

The culprit behind the issue appears to be the "Use network-provided time" option under Date & time settings. However, not every Pixel owner who reported the issue had the options enabled. Fortunately, there is an easy fix to resolve the issue. All you need to do is reboot your phone. In case you still notice the issue after rebooting your phone, you will have to set the time manually.

Google hasn't officially acknowledged the bug yet, so it is unclear if the company is working on a fix for the issue.

  • Pixel 3 XL owner here, and my wife has a pixel 3. Both of ours adjusted properly, thank goodness as we had an important meeting in the morning
  • Same here no issues at all.
  • My 3aXL adjusted fine.
  • I live in Arizona and we don't change but my Pixel 5 did spring forward anyway. I had use network time and timezones both on. A simple reboot fixed it
  • Good for them. Civil disobedience is a valid form of protest. The scourge of DST must be broken. In the fall, lets all of us just refuse.
  • No problems with my Pixel 4a 5G on Google Fi. I forgot to reset the time on my vehicles, stove, and microwave though.
  • 3a XL changed fine
  • My Pixel 2 XL adjusted just fine. I guess my phone may be considered a slightly older model at this point..
  • No problems on our 3 XLs for my wife and I. Where I have seen several issues is with Windows 10 PCs today...
  • It is Saving, not Savings. Saving in singular not plural. This is a common mistake.
  • I don't know, but I need to question this article's accuracy, because I can't fathom any device not adjusting to Daylight Savings time (unless you live in a State where it's not observed such as AZ, or HI). I'm also with everyone that wants to do away with daylight savings (losing an hour is the pits).
  • My Pixel 4xl updated the time correctly.
