Notches were the defining trend of 2018, but if the Honor teaser above is any indication, it looks like front cameras will be integrated into a punch hole-style cutout that sits on one side of the panel. The phone is question is likely the Honor View 20, which will be unveiled in Paris on January 22. The latest Galaxy S10 leaks suggest Samsung is also looking to incorporate a similar design into its upcoming flagship.
It's possible we may not have to wait until 2019 to see the circular camera cutout in action. Samsung is set to launch the Galaxy A8s in China on December 10, and Huawei is slated to unveil the Nova 4 series on December 17. Both devices are set to offer a similar in-screen cutout.
But with both the Galaxy A8s and the Nova 4 making their debut in China, it's likely the View 20 will be the first device to launch in global markets with an in-screen camera cutout. In fact, the teaser tweet by Honor PR suggests as much:
We don't have a lot of details on what kind of specs the View 20 will offer, but it's guaranteed to feature HiSilicon's latest chipset, the 7nm Kirin 980. It'll also likely continue the same design aesthetic as most of Honor's 2018 portfolio, with a gradient pattern at the back. With the launch just over a month away, we should have more details on the View 20 in the coming weeks.
In the meantime, what are your thoughts on the in-screen camera cutout?
