Facebook and Instagram experience denial of service attack, outage [Update: Restored!]

Update: Both social networks are now functional again. If you can't access them in your region just yet, hold tight. Services are being restored.

Facebook and Instagram, the popular social network and it's photo-centric sub-division, are currently experiencing a denial of service attack that's affecting access for some users. If you've been trying to check your feeds and you've been getting errors, don't worry — it's them, not you.

Both Facebook and Instagram have solid infrastructure and seldom experience downtime. I'm still not able to access either but that should pass as their systems are restored. Let me know if you have access and, if not, when it gets restored.

In the meantime, if you still can't get onto Facebook or Instagram, you can still get your social fix on Twitter.

  • " In the meantime, if you still can't get onto Facebook or Instagram, you can still get your social fix on Twitter." What, no love for G+ today? Awww. :( Posted via the Android Central App
  • I happen to love G+ I follow what interests me and get my debate on with those who are into the same things. So what if I don't know know them. I still value thier input. It's also like a social shelter from family and friends. I love my family and friends but most of them just don't care about some of the things that interest me. I can find people on Google plus that share common interest. Google plus is the nerds facebook... At least for me it is. I can't help I find the snapdragon 810 vs Samsung exynos debacle more interesting than Tom Brady and his deflated balls. It's who I am. Posted via AC app by way of my right thumb.

  • Facebook said it was a glitch in its system, not a d.o.s. attack. They made changes that conflicted with the configuration settings.
  • yea, definitely need to update the headline. This was not an attack. Without knowing exactly what changes they made to break it like that my best guess was their load balancing got out of whack so some of their servers got overwhelmed.
  • It actually was a ddos attack, but Fb (like most big companys) never tell you the truth. Posted via Android Central App
  • Take the tinfoil hat off bruh

  • In my Chicago area, Facebook was off from about 10 p.m., or thereabouts. It was back this morning when I awoke. I've noticed a lot of error messages on their Android app lately; connection errors even when I'm at home with an excellent wifi signal. What up wit dat!?
