Keeping up with every Android phone that gets announced/released is no simple task. Big launches from the likes of Samsung and OnePlus are easy enough to keep up with, but there are plenty of devices that may slip through the cracks.

One such device is the Sony Xperia 1 II. The phone was unveiled back in February and is finally launching in the U.S. on July 24 for the steep price of $1200. For your money, you're getting a 4K OLED display, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 865 processor, ZEISS camera optics, and even a free pair of WF-1000XM3 earbuds if you place your pre-order by June 28.

It's certainly an impressive-looking device, but is anyone actually interested in it? Here's what some of our forum members have to say.

Am I the only one excited for the Sony phone? The camera looks promising and I'm tempted to get back to Sony. It pretty much has everything and high refresh rate is the only thing missing which I don't see that much of a difference between all my phones. So not a deal breaker for me. No 5G in US sucks if you plan to keep the phone for long. But I'm kind of excited about this, as usual Sony...

Nope I'm extremely excited about it as well. So much so that I'm considering buying it outright which is something I never do for a smartphone. So far seems to be the unicorn device for me in terms of design, hardware features, and camera system. Just about everything I complained about that Sony was failing at they actually sat down and corrected. The Alpha team working with the mobile division...

The name reminds me of the old HTC One Mini 2. I really wish tech companies would stop calling their stuff "One," because it leads to either confusing or silly naming conventions with further iterations.:p The phone itself looks good, but Sony's market share is virtually nonexistent in the US nowadays (just like HTC), so it's unlikely we'll see much of it around here. I wonder what software...

I'm excited to see it, but unless there are some great deals, I won't be buying it. Phone prices have just gotten out of hand.

  • No interest at all.
  • Interest? I didn't even know the device existed until today.
  • Because you, like 99% of people only see galaxies and iphones
  • High amount of interest.
  • I do but if the p40 Pro is a better deal I'm getting that which I expect it to be as its been out longer plus the 256gb over 128gb of storage is pushing me more the p40 Pro way to.
  • uh... no google, non starter. no matter how amazing the hardware is.
  • This phone, like every other Sony phone, is DOA. So NO! I'm not interested in Sony phones.
  • You are afraid that you will get defective unit?
  • 0 interest on any phone at $1,200
  • No interest at $1,200, but once it hits half that then I might be interested.
  • Looks like an awesome phone but no high refresh rate screen and no 5g (is that just US version or UK too?) when all the other high end phones going with 90 and 120 screens is an odd decision on such an expensive device.
  • But none of them have a better quality than the xperia 1 ii or even the last year one..i compared xperia 1 from a year ago to iPhone 11 and s20 screen...the quality was just obvious, the videos wereore sharp and the best color I've ever seen on a phone...it's actually a downgrade once I use other phones lol...the 120hz is nice but does not have that wow factor while watching videos, also Sony phones are fast, it feels the same, fast and smooth...the Xperia 1 ii international version has the 5g
  • I have some interest. I see that people are balking at the price even though it's in the same area as the S20+ or iPhone Pro Max. my gripe about buying Sony phones in the US was either lack of Verizon compatibility or utter lack of any supported accessories.
  • I balk at those prices too
  • I am very interested in this phone despite the price.
  • Very interested despite the price but I still don't know if I will buy it just because I really want it. To me Sony has outdone every other manufacturer this year from a hardware standpoint and definitely from a camera feature standpoint with Sony's Alpha division being so heavily involved. From a pure camera user experience, nothing comes close cause no one else has a mobile division they can lean on. Not to mention the bonus of being able to play PS4 (or PS5?) games remotely on a 4k screen. But I'm just on the fence about actually spending $1200 out the gate for it. May just have to wait it out until the price drops some.
  • I am excited, the camera hardware is the best.... But if the software of the camera (pixel), isn't good enough then it still won't be able to compete with the best.
  • They are only the best in auto mode, this phone is for niche pro camera users not Instagram fake Photoshop that looks like it's filtered on cheap apps lol...I own pro camera, the quality is not same as phone cameras...i tried xperia 1 ii, the closes to pro camera....the best u speak of look basic or low grade once the file is transfered lol.
  • I'm interested but the price is way to high especially since Sony doesn't have clout that Apple and Samsung have.
  • They do, they have one of the best technology and the best in tv and sensors, even audio they are better than apple and Samsung...I'll take Sony TV over any Samsung
  • I take maybe 5 pictures a year...LOL
Sooooo, yah I like the phone based on aesthetics (looks) headphone jack, stereo sound, FLAT screen...blah,blah,blah! However, there is no way I'm paying that much money for great camera hardwarethat I know I will not use! I wish I could find a phone with similar squarish looks for much less money. So for now I will wait to see what the OnePLus Z brings to the table.
  • Very interested, but waiting on some more reviews or a good preorder deal that includes WH1000XM3 with the phone...(NOT WF) in the states.
  • I'm interested to see if they finally got past the internal competition that held back their smartphone cameras. They make the best smartphone sensors, but never have the best smartphone cameras. Irony.
  • The problem is they don't make Instagram cameras lol the Photoshop filtered other companies have lol... regular consumers don't know how to use Sony software lol
  • If it worked with TMobile wifi calling I'd get one. It's one of the few phones with a normal display (no notch, no hole camera) and it will probably have an led notification light.
  • My last Sony phone was the Z3, an excellent phone with one major flaw, the overhyped camera. Good hardware camera ruined by over-zealous software destroying photos with it's noise suppression. And Sony even refused to even acknowledge the issue never mind fix the problem, despite widespread complaints. Things didn't get much better with subsequent releases. I've since moved on onto the likes of Samsung and now the Pixel to get a way better reliable camera. So whenever I see Sony touting great camera tech, I've heard it all before. They may get it right this time, but I've moved on. They dropped the ball and have been struggling since. And they never help themselves with the Sony price premium, do they?
  • They never teamed up with alpha team, Xperia 1 ii is different...I tried it and compared it to s20, its way better in all levels..I'm a pixel fan too
  • Not at that price.
  • Very excited and it's been awhile since I've been excited over a phone!! I hope it works with Verizons Network
