Angry Birds Rio, a combination of what's surely the most popular mobile game of all time with an upcoming Hollywood animated feature, is said to be hitting "app stores everywhere" in March 2011, just in time to play on your Motorola Xoom.  Based on the game trailer (you can see it after the break) it looks like our feathered friends have made their way to Brazil, and have some sort of wildlife exploiting Cockatoo to battle it out with this go 'round.  Not much to go on, other than 20th Century Fox backing the project and tie-ins with their new animated feature Rio due in April 2011.  We'll know more in six weeks or so.

In the meantime, watch the trailer and speculate like the rest of us! [@RovioMobile]

  • Nice Can't Wait
  • Sweet, New Birds to the gang will be Welcome!
  • Funny thing is, this probably does more to advertise the movie RIO than the game Angry Birds. :p Another note, I hope they make some improvements. The game is fun, but how many levels are we at? Over 100? 150? Adding a few good elements can never hurt.
  • sellouts!
  • I never understand why people call people sellouts. Isnt the point of making the product, music, whatever to make a living off of it? Yet when they get really successful, they are called sell outs. Sounds more like jealousy to me. I cant wait. Love dem dar angry birdzies! :)
  • Looks like Rovio has jumped the shark.
  • Really? Everything indicates they're gonna make rivers of money with this new title, no matter how derivative it is. Jumping the shark? More like wearing new moneyhats.
  • Agreed. These guys have the same whimsical, cute (but not sickeningly sweet) and funny style of Disney. That's half the driving force in the app's popularity. Plus, whoever did their music really pops it out as well. It's just so perfectly executed it makes the game a joy. I could really see them fleshing this out into a movie with ease. That clip was fantastic.
  • Hmmm who was flying the helicopter? :/ It didnt show if it was the pigs so they might have more enemies as well as the other birds teaming with them
  • Looks interesting!
  • Whatever happened to big eagle?
  • yea, we are waiting for it..
  • Sweet, I've been waiting for an Angry Birds update since Christmas. That day I beat and finished off whatever update we had received + Advent + Halloween. Its been TOO long.
  • I'm slowly getting my three stars on all my boards and I haven't even finished the holiday edition yet. Can't wait.
  • Where is our 5th level for Angry Birds, my iphone friends have had it for two months now.. Whats going on with that?
  • I hope it is different from its previous services....
