Android 5.0 Lollipop starts rolling out to NVIDIA Shield Tablet LTE

Those who opted for the LTE variant of NVIDIA's Shield Tablet are in for a sweet candy treat today. NVIDIA announced via Twitter that Android 5.0 Lollipop has begun rolling out to the device just a week after its WiFi sibling.

In addition to bringing a little Lollipop goodness to the gaming tablet, the update also adds some cool new features to NVIDIA's own apps. You can now look forward to layer support, custom color creation, and stencils in NVIDIA's Dabbler app, as well as streaming access to full versions of over 20 PC games via Grid in the Shield Hub app.

If you want to know more about the tablet, be sure to check out our hands-on here. If you're already enjoying a little Lollipop fare on your Shield, let us know how you're liking it in the comments.

  • Still rolling out for the wifi version as well. Good on these other companies for stepping up updates. It's great for android. Posted from my Nexus 7 2013 via Android Central App
  • But bad for Google. My LTE n7 has to wait.
Disappointed more and more with google
    :(
  • Don't be... lollipop still has many rough edges, and it's not THAT different from kit Kat. Posted via the Android Central App

  • The roll out to my Nexus 5 has been anything but smooth. Posted via Android Central App
  • Good on Nvidia, showing Google how it's done. Still sitting here on 4.4.4 on my LTE Nexus 7.
  • Just got the update. So far so good. It looks like they added ES File Explorer to the system partition (aka bloat, at least to me). Still not picking up T-Mobile's LTE in Cleveland. Can't really say much else yet since it's only been running for a few minutes.
  • I actually got the OTA "leak" last week, and seeing as I use ES, it wasn't such a bad add, apart from the fact it can't write to external SD :(. Hope they get that fixed soon, but otherwise, I've found the update to do wonders for an already quick tablet. Very nice update indeed.
  • How is your SOT with KitKat? via AC App on VZW Moto X DE/N7
  • The OTA was on nVidia's ftp site last week but they didn't push it out because AT&T had to approve it since it was a branding thing. I use the Shield on TMO and 5.0 works fine with TMO ... and if it's rooted then it's easy to uninstall the AT&T app. Yours should sort itself out.
  • And still no lollipop for my 2012 Nexus 7 Wi-Fi only Posted via Android Central App

  • Lollipop is smooth and looks great! I can't wait to purchase my 2nd Shield Tablet tomorrow at midnight.
  • Are they having a sale? Posted via Android Central App on The Nexus 5

  • Google is shooting themselves in the foot by falling behind the other manufacturers in updates. Posted via the Android Central App
  • The shield - a current generation device being sold to consumers right now SHOULD be getting updates faster than machines that aren't sold anymore.
  • I want to play, see and touch the Wi-Fi one, but i can't find one that is on display in my area (that works) I can't make up my mind on an entrainment tablet until i experience it first. Did they fix the WiFi issue yet? Posted via Android Central App
  • I just got the update. Working nicely. Haven't had those WiFi issues for about 2 months. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Wish I hadn't done the update, good-bye to all my Squaresoft games, none of them work anymore. I won't be installing Lollipop anywhere else.
  • Well...... If circle hard would get off their...... Here, have a goggle sucker
  • I love their games - but once I spent almost 20 bucks on a game I could INSTALL at my work site but couldn't actually PLAY at my work site (due to different network protocols I guess and their stupid always connected requirement) so they will get no more money from me. Why should I need to be online to play FF7?
  • Got my update this afternoon to the 32GB LTE version. So far, so good.
  • Rocking a 32 GB Nexus 9, the Shield tab getting Lollipop, will help all of us with gaming, as they're ART 32 bit emulated, also obviously for the K1. Disappointed that I can't use my Bluetooth headset, makes us look bad, all these bluetooth problems. Managed to get my Note 2 to communicate over bluetooth, but it wasn't easy. Can't use the bluetooth headsets on the Note 2 either, Apple friends, say it's easy with their devices. You've really got to wind back the games sensitivity in the settings, as well as get them to use full advanced features. But Red Bull Air Racing and Rip Tide 2 are great fun, the last one after the adjustments I suggest. Video and Chromecast performance good, Cosmos in 5 GB, for all 13 episodes in HD, a lot of letterboxing though. Full screen seems to be a battery drainer, great on the Chromecast upscaled to UHD on the TV. Very fast, easy configuration on the N9, brought the battery pretty low though, slow charger like the N10. Fast tablet, must have a tablet case, or it will do all sorts of things in your pack, due to double tap unlock. It was hot from going off on a tangent, buttons too recessed. Had one video crash in the first week, Google Play Movies and TV, had to do a soft reboot. So far haven't had to do a factory reset, at least that's one thing, my peak broadband Internet access is close at 13 GB left for 13 days, should have done a lot of it at night, off peak, still have 40 GB of that left.
  • Ordered mine last week - should be here Dec 1! Went LtE for the heck of it. Ordered @ bby - too bad I missed the controller deal with it but I hope to use it with otg usb and a usb mouse and bt keyboard for computer streaming D3 and Civ Posted via the Android Central App

  • Nvidia Shield is great on Lollipop! ONE major problem. If you use a SD card there are no file managers that work with Lollipop so you will not be able to copy or move files on the SD card so be aware of this before upgrading.
Too early for the App developers.
