Motorola Droid X

The Motorola Droid X officially will get its Android 2.2 update starting Wednesday, according to a note Verizon just dropped in our inbox. Here's the word:

Verizon Wireless will begin pushing Android 2.2, Froyo, to the DROID X by Motorola tomorrow. Customers do not have to wait for the over the air push, they can obtain the official update via the device itself by following these steps: "Menu" > "Settings" > "About Phone" > "System Updates". For more information and step-by-step instructions please visit

And you read that right: You won't actually have to wait for the update, you should be able to go and get it. (And there shouldn't be any shenanigans like with AT&T.) More in the Droid X forums!

Droid X Froyo coming on Wednesday, Verizon announces

You guys are ridiculous !! And you desperately need a woman for crying out loud , its just a stupid worthless update !!!

Because They are posting the OFFICIAL announcement here, not a rumor leak?

Just because Droid Life posted it first (if they did, I wasn't really hitting refresh on both pages) doesn't mean that's where this article came from.

This was the official announcement, meaning that it was Via Verizon Wireless.

ok... Great for Droid Life (I read them every day too)

But that doesn't matter. This is quoting the official announcement for the Droid X. the Droid x post (even the official one) for droid life was posted over 2 hours BEFORE verizon confirmed.

This article was posted after confirmation was recieved.

Honestly, "First" is annoying enough in comments, we don't need fans of various websites fighting over which one broke the news "first" as well.

Reverted back to 2.1 Stock last night just for this! :-) now I don't have to waste the time to do it tonight.! Go Droid-life, Android Central, and all forums who were on top of this. Sorry AC it seems as though Droid-life beat you to the punch...

I still use AC more though...

I expect Droid life to get Droid related news first. he seems to have some well placed contacts, and the Droid line is his focus. AC focuses on all android news (at least in the states) and I notice that they typically don't post about rumored upgrades until someone else does. Maybe some sort of post policy?

It is a bit funny seeing how excited everyone is for this update. I am a little, but feel it is not going to be as big as 1.5 to 2.1 was for the Eris I so deviously laid on my g/f so I could get the X.

Yup, that's the big one. I am eager to see how that pushes this already fast phone. What really gets me is the fact that its only been two months. Us Eris users waited about 5 months. :)

I really don't care. Ill stick to my 2.2 rooted X. And wait to see if you loose root. Them ill deox it de blur and haves fresh froyo. Enjoy all your new bloat were.

Mmmm. . . won't let me manually update. Hope they initiate on Wednesday. Anyone else unable to manually upgrade? Solution?

Oh ok thanks. The article wasn't clear about manual updates-- sounded like you could do it now. Maybe only ambiguous to me!

No, it's not the same version. It's a previously leaked version ending with .9. The one that will be dropped tomorrow ends with .15.

Edit: Nevermind. It's the same version. But you have to be already rooted and running an older leaked version to do this. Imma gonna wait til the official drops tomorrow. Patience is all it takes. ;)

im happy for you droid X people. i have the Dinc. I know it sucks waiting, but just remember, besides the flash and maybe 2 more new things, theres nothing else to be crazy about. I was upset 20 min after cause i was so excited

But, what about foreign language support? It is a shame that Android/Droid phones can not display many foreign language web sites correctly (unlike IPhone/IPod Touch)...When is Google going to respond to many complaints about this major flaw???

Checked for update a minute ago, no joy.

Noticing now that the update screen reads "Check for update was not available at this time." instead of saying there's no update.

Prepping for the Wednesday drop? One can only hope.

If you have problems getting the update, do the following:

-go to settings - data manager - social applications - UNcheck sync only over wifi
-turn the phone off and remove the battery and leave it set for a couple minutes.
-turn your wifi off, leave set for a minute, turn it back on.
-turn phone on, go to settings - about phone - system updates and it should work.

Just confirm what others have said in above comments.
