Xperia Z1 f

Miniature Xperia Z1 scheduled for pre-holiday arrival on Docomo

We've known for a while that Sony's dinky Xperia Z1 f was due to arrive on NTT Docomo in Japan this month, but now we have a firm date — Thursday, Dec. 19. An update to the carrier's online store reveals that the pint-sized version of the Xperia Z1 will launch in black, white, lime and pink just in time for the holidays, though there's still no hint of any Western release.

The Xperia Z1 f packs similar internals to its larger counterpart, only with a smaller 4.3-inch display and slightly reduced battery capacity, making it a tempting proposition for those wanting a smaller Android phone that doesn't skimp on hardware muscle. Given Sony's traditional early-year release cycle, there's a good chance we might see an international version of the device — the rumored Z1 S perhaps — at the company's CES press conference in Las Vegas early next month.

Sony Xperia Z1 f heading to Japan on December 19

Sony knows that their popularity in the states is almost non existent compared to Samsung, Apple, LG and HTC. They've always focused more on the eastern world. That's where they're really popular. Until Sony decides to release a top of the line device on every US carrier, they'll never be relevant here. Which is unfortunate because their devices are absolutely beautiful.

Nexus 7 :)

Very true. If they brought the xperia z to everyone except not just tmobile they could break some ground in the us.

It's really too bad Sony can't get there devices released here sooner. By the time this is here (if ever) it's window for success will have already passed. New phones from HTC and Samsung are only a few months away at this point.

While this is probably true, the difference will be that Sony's will be in a small form factor and still have higher end specs. Unlike the "mini's" out there now, who have mini form factor, with mini specs.

Edit - I know specs don't mean everything, but still great to see someone keep a high end, in a small form factor.

That's true, this is the "mini" phone to get, but how mini is it. Sonys other high end phones have pretty large bezels due to the waterproof treatment. Without knowing I'm guessing this is about the size of a GS4 or something similar but with a much smaller screen.

Regardless it's a phone is love to be able to get. I was really close to the T-Mobile Sony Z instead of my G2. The specs of the G2 win me over and the much better screen.
