Sony Walkman

Four new playlist types now included, including shared playlists from friends

A new version of the Sony Walkman app is rolling out to recent Xperia devices with changes to playlists and the Music Unlimited service. Along with a slight visual refresh, including a mini player at the bottom of the app, you now have access to new playlist types — Newly Added, Most Played, Shared Playlist and TrackID History playlists.

On the Music Unlimited service front, Sony has introduced 30 second track previews for everyone, along with free trial periods and offline playback support.

The update is rolling out globally to the Xperia Z1, Z Ultra, Z, ZL and Tablet Z. You won't find the app through the Play Store, but rather through the "software update" section of your device's settings.

Do someone has an apk of the app that can work on any device? Like my Nexus 4?

You'd have to check XDA for a tweaked APK. It only works on Sony devices otherwise.

This is the reason nobody uses their services. Just like Apple. I'd gladly buy stuff from them if they weren't so stingy about staying in the ecosystem

When I had downloaded the apk to my Nexus 4, the phone became bugged and some features were missing such as sharing track on Facebook. It caused some instability and the phone restarted at times.

Does Sony make the Nexus 4 now?

My phone can beat up your phone. It's bigger, badder and has more moves. If worse comes to worse, it also comes with a sword.

I can confirm that I've got the update on my Xperia ZR C5502 in India

I installed this on my Nexus 4 (stock & rooted kitkat 4.4.2 [factory 4.4.1 updated to 4.4.2 with ota adb sideload]) and it runs just fine. I had to uninstall the old version which came from the XDA thread in the Nexus 4 apps section because of inconsistent certificates, but after that finished it installs and runs just fine. I don't use music unlimited or any other features of the app than just locally stored music, so I can't vouch for other stuff. But there is certainly no bugginess with anything on my N4 at all since installing.
