Galaxy S5

Local pricing equivalent to $756 for 16GB

We're still a few weeks out from the Samsung Galaxy S5 going on sale, but we still don't know much about pricing. According to Digitimes, Sammy's latest and greatest has been announced and priced for Taiwan ahead of April 11.

In local money, the 16GB Galaxy S5 will cost NT$22,900 which equates to $756 on the exchange rates. Direct currency conversions aren't the most accurate indicator of how pricing will go down in other territories, but it at least gives us an idea.

Boo.

My device went through hell to send this message.

Your device couldn't have gone through hell just to say "Boo," lol.

It could be that the price seems high but I think it should be lower in the states. If not then there are plenty of other choices.

kalo88 says:

Why 'should' it be lower in the states, you guys pay the least for everything.

Each unit costs the same to make. The price difference is due to how much it costs to sell in the various countries. Taxes, import fees and stuff like that. Unlike the UK, we do not have an added in VAT, so it should (and will be) cheaper.

Don't like the price difference, blame your government.

Some it also has to do with charging what the market will be willing to pay, but that is tougher to put a finger on

Except for those of us who don't qualify. Irony?

Yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of it. But, I won't get into that, as this is not the proper venue.

Stop whining. What we pay for our devices is irrelevant to you.

+1.

Why are you wondering why it should be cheaper here instead of where you're from? I don't give a shit what you're charged.

jimbo says:

Who's to blame in the US for an unlocked 16 GB Samsung Galaxy S4 priced at $625 compared with an unlocked 32 GB HTC One priced at $500?

NoNexus says:

That is irrelevant to the conversation. Each company can charge whatever they want. We are talking about why the prices vary between countries for the same model.

Try and keep up.

MERCDROID says:

It's not really irrelevant, though. If HTC can charge a lower price for a comparative (or, in some cases, superior) device, then Samsung can surely achieve a more competitive price point.

With the rising prices of Samsung's devices, my next device is likely not going to be a Samsung. Hell, $700 for the Note 3 is only manageable because of JUMP. If not for that financing option, I'd still be rocking a Nexus 5.

NoNexus says:

I know they can achieve a better price point but they choose not to. I wouldn't have my Note either if it wasn't for a freebie upgrade (no contract extension) from sprint.

MERCDROID says:

Wait, they didn't extend your contract? Lol, who did you threaten to get away with that?

Posted via my "Gift from God" Note 3, my "Blessed" iPad Mini 2, or my "Risen" Asus ROG"

NoNexus says:

Nope, it was weird. Walked in to get my wife on the plan(she was the last one on when we left Verizon) and she loved my s3. They had some special that if you were coming to them on a new line, and got the s3, you got an immediate upgrade on the account.

Never saw an ad for it, didn't expect it but heck I took it. I think the s3 was free as well. Every once and awhile I check the contract end times to make sure they do not realize the mistake.. Lol

You left Verizon for Sprint? Weird. I had Sprint for 10 years and after switching to Verizon I will never go back.

One day they'll all work the same everywhere right? Lol

Posted via Android Central App

NoNexus says:

Yeah one day they will with lte-a.

Sprint has just as good lte here as Verizon (someone else did the rollout, not sprint) and was way cheaper

It's nice how they charge $300 extra for scanners you'll never use.
But it does have a sdcard slot for extra storage, whatever that's worth.

avidberry says:

It will be marketed around $750 here in Indonesia. Samsung keeps charging premium price for its devices while slowing down their innovations. It's almost in the same league with Apple with their outrageous price (iPhone 5s 16GB costs us around $875-$900 here, simply crazy!)

arutemauepon says:

People will buy them at that price, no matter how crazy you think the price is

Posted via Android Central App

NoNexus says:

lol at slowing down their innovations, especially when you throw out the Apple offense. Apple is blatantly comping Android features have had nothing all that new in awhile. Samsung is adding features all the time. You may not use them, but they are there

MERCDROID says:

Define innovation, lol.

Does Samsung include a lot of features in their handsets? Absolutely.

Are many of them innovative? Not in the slightest, in my opinion.

NoNexus says:

Spen, s view, the camera had a lot of features before the others. I am a fan of most of the 'smart features' with the exception of smart scroll.

Maybe it is just a by product of having 2 flagship phones a year, but they are usually first to the market with a lot of things.

avidberry says:

Features that often are not working properly. I'll give you one simple example: Two weeks ago, I was trying to use cheese shutter in my friend's Note 3 only to find out that feature work like 3 times out of 5 attempts while in my G2 it works all the time. I don't like Apple products, their exclusivity/walled-garden environment and their blatant greed but I admit that they make good products. Their execution is way better than Samsung, which actually made me disappointed as I believe Samsung is able to create something more.

NoNexus says:

No it isn't what it is called but it is one of the phrases you can use to have it take a picture automatically

I let a phone go half way into the year before I look at it. It's less expensive that way and most of the bugs are worked out by then.
