Samsung Galaxy S5

We're live in Seattle this evening where T-Mobile CEO John Legere & Co. are laying down their latest Uncarrier news, and on the device front the Big Deal is that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be VoLTE-capable starting June 19 in the 16 cities that sport the voice-over-LTE upgrade.

That makes four VoLTE-enabled phones on T-Mobile. The others are the LG G Flex, Samsung Galaxy Light and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

Also announced tonight was the addition of a couple dozen more VoLTE cities. They are:

  • Atlanta, GA
  • Austin, TX
  • Boston, MA
  • Chicago, IL
  • Dallas, TX
  • Houston, TX
  • Long Island, NY
  • Los Angeles, CA
  • Minneapolis, MN
  • New Jersey
  • New York, NY
  • Philadelphia, PA
  • San Francisco, CA
  • Seattle, WA
  • Washington, D.C.

Samsung Galaxy S5 joins T-Mobile's VOLTE ranks

+1, Really hope Google releases an update to support both VOLTE and WIFI calling (Similar to Apple on IOS8)

I can guarantee no Nexus will ever get this. The capability comes in a firmware update from Tmobile directly. Since all Nexus devices get Google-direct updates there is no possible way to get an update from Tmobile to enable VoLTE or wifi calling.

Now....that doesn't mean an XDA user couldn't enable it...but I'll warn you: based on the long wait Nexus 4 users have faced for wifi calling to be ported, I wouldn't hold my breath for a VoLTE update to be ported to any Nexii, either.

i installed VoLTE update on my GS5 Saturday left a little disappointed service wasn't available in Virginia Beach area yet.
Today being Monday I make call and walla VoLTE service iactive VB is live.
While on call 4G LTE icon stays in tact & data speed test during call are fabulous - 15.00Mbps Down/ 12.00Mbps up
