Pebble

A firmware update for the Pebble smartwatch is pushing out today, bringing the watch to version 2.4 and fixing a slew of bugs and annoyances. You should get a notice that a new version of the operating system is ready for you via the Pebble companion app for your smartphone, or you can dig into the app itself and manually check.

As mentioned, the update consists of mostly bug fixes. The changelog:

  • Fix a potential crash when using scroll layers or animations
  • Added support for realloc
  • Added a gbitmap_create_blank function to create empty bitmaps of a fixed size
  • Added number_window_get_window()
  • Fixed a crash with atan2_lookup when high input values were used
  • Fixed a bug where TupletInteger could not be used with unsigned integers
  • Fixed several bluetooth reliability issues
  • Fixed a case where the "Setup notifications" banner would erroneously show in the iOS Pebble app
  • Fixed a bug with the music app where media playing faster than real time could not be paused
  • Fixed a bug where the notifications view could show a rapidly increasing counter for number of notifications when first displayed
  • Fixed a bug where switching watchfaces could cause the same watchface to be relaunched

This basically means that the people building the apps for your pebble have a few new features in the SDK to build better apps with, and some of the bugs that may affect current apps were taken care of. We love hearing about both.

Anyone else get the update today? Shout out with any experiences in the comments.

Thanks, Jamie!

first try firmware update failed...must reset pebble completely...nice job pebble. i used to love you but now i want something round on my wrist! *edit OK i fixed it but it was not easy. i still do love you pebble...

Mind sharing what you did? I've factory reset the Pebble, deleted and re-download the app, unpaired any other Bluetooth devices, and it still won't connect for me

i think thats why it went from 2.4.0 from 2.4.1 so quickly...this error. you dont need to factory reset you need to put your pebble in recovery mode and try and update. press and hold the select and up button then press and hold the back button until the device restarts into recovery mode. then try and update and it will see it

Odd. I just checked for updates and it updated my firmware to 2.3. Now it's trying to update to 2.4.1, and it's just hanging on "Please Wait."

Mine's been stuck trying to connect again all day after the update. I guess I'll try resetting both the watch and the app. Going the day without the notifications really made me realize how much I love the Pebble though.

I haven't used pebble, so I can't fully agree... but I will say that a few months ago, I was extremely close to getting a Pebble, but decided against it. One month into owning a G Watch... I'm very glad that I didn't get the pebble.

Pebble does what I want it to. Show me my texts on my wrist. The big winner for me is the SEVEN DAY battery life. I'm waiting for gen 2 of Android Wear

I updated to 2.4 this morning, but what I really want fixed is to provide notification of Gmail messages with empty subject or message body.
