Sony Xperia Tablet Z

Sony has announced that they've begun rolling out Android 4.4 KitKat to a wide range of their devices. The Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z are all enjoying the update, while Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia E1, and Xperia M2 are next in line for KitKat updates in July.

The update tweaks the interface to be more in line with what you'll see on the PlayStation 4, along with some tidying up in the notification tray. The native apps for messaging, e-mail, Album and Movies have been optimized, while Sony's Smart Social Camera has been added in alongside battery Stamina mode. The theme framework is in place now too, plus compatibility with wearables like the SmartBand SWR10 and adjoining Lifelog app.

That's a fair bit of new content for a wide spread of phones. Dig into your Xperia phone's settings menu to check for the latest update. How many of you guys are using the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, or Xperia Tablet Z? Are you digging the KitKat update? Is there anything else you'd like to see tweaked in the next patch?

Is this only for the international version of the z? What about the T-Mobile Xperia z?

Goggles decision to ruin microSD cards on KitKat placed an immediate stop on my planned purchase of any Android device (and Sony is the only OEM I like on Android). 16GB of storage is not nearly enough for my needs. So if I had any Sony device that could be prevented from updating to KitKat, I would prevent it.

I've not got my update yet for my O2 Z. If it's anything like the 4.2.2 and 4.3 update though, I'll probably get it before many of the UK unlocked ones though. Strange as that may seem.

Update installed on my O2 Z using Sony's PC update software, so it isn't just unlocked phones that are getting it. If your phone isn't finding the update, connect it to a PC.

nothing here in Australia either. I do not understand why they favour the american market over the rest of the world. Updates always arrive there first.

Just finished installing it and I must say Sony listens!, Camera is great again.

First impression not good.

Battery drain is ridiculous. Right now, I have my Z plugged into the USB and the charging is breaking even with the drain.

The notification bar is really laggy now.

From lock-screen to camera takes more than 3 secs. Terrible!

Album doesn't load the photo that much quicker neither.

Very disappointing.
