Android Central

Google has announced that the new version of Android, 4.1 Jelly Bean, is now rolling out to GSM/HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus phones -- that's the international model, and the one sold through the Google Play Store in the U.S. Google says the update will begin rolling out today, and continue "over the next several days." The update bumps the Gnex up to Android 4.1.1 (build JRO03C), the same version that  just pushed out to the Nexus 7, and landed yesterday on AOSP. We've updated our Google I/O edition with the new OTA, and we can confirm that the search results returned through the Google Search app haven't changed -- local results are still returned, just as they were on 4.1. Also, unlike version 4.1, Android 4.1.1 is blocked from downloading the soon-to-be-discontinued Adobe Flash Player -- after updating, the app is marked as incompatible in Google Play.

If you're curious about what's new in Jelly Bean, check out our landing page, and our Jelly Bean feature articles. Writing on the official Nexus Google+ page, Google says that other Galaxy Nexus phones (presumably the CDMA/LTE versions), as well as the Nexus S and Motorola Xoom are due to receive Jelly Bean next. No time frame is provided for this, however.

If you've already got the OTA notification on your device, be sure to hit the comments and let us know how you're getting on with the new version of Android!

Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean begins rolling out to HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus

I am so excited about this news and now I'll be checking my GNex constantly looking for the update. I'll be sure to update you on how Jellybean is. :D

Hooray! Awaiting the OTA now! :-D I didn't root so I've been waiting for the famous Jelly Bean software. Thanks for the heads up, AC.

I'm now convinced to buy the next unlocked Nexus device directly through Google... damn your temptation, HTC EVO 4G LTE!!

Me too! Well the OneX is nice, but I have still never turned off my GN and have always kept it in my bag. I am glad I have the micro sim now and an LTE unlimited plan locked in, but I really still just much prefer Stock Android. Don't forget to change your APN on the GN so the data works with your LTE plan.

Bought my Nexus just in time for the update...Hahehahe
3 days in to Galaxy world and sweet jelly is already at ma door step! ;)

So Did I! I sold my At&t S2 and bought my Gnex before the lame ass "infringement" flop from Apple. Loving pure Google! Still no OTA though, but checking every minute! lol.

GSM Nexus + T-MO FTW!

Serious dumping my VZW Nexus and moving my business to TMO with Unlocked Nexus has been the best move ever. Even losing my Unlimited Data was worth it. I save 30 bucks a month on a identical Plan 500 Minutes + Unlimited data (10 GIG CAP w/ TMO) + Unlimited Txt MMS. Peace of mind I have the Nexus phone that updates from none other than El Goog. Plus it sets me up to buy the next Nexus from the play store when it drops. Swap sims call it a day. In addition to what appears to be better battery life coming to the GSM version of the phone.

I know this wont work for everyone due to lack of reception with other carries in your area. I Bought the Unlocked Nexus and got a prepaid 30$ month from t-mo with 100 Minutes and 5 Gigs HSPA+. I carried around both VZW and GSM Nexus and performed signal testing in all the common areas i frequent. I had the same Reception if not better on my T MO GSM Phone. (Going by -db). I was way more than happy with the HSPA+ speeds. So i switched.

Thanks to the AC forum community.

I suspect its for both as the article says international version (which would be yakju) and US play store (which would be takju)

If the launch is any indication of how long this will take, here is hoping that Verizon won't wait until Nov to release the update.

Let's go Sprint, while I am happy with my Nexus -LTE if this crap takes 6 months I will be switching to an unlocked phone soon. I played this once before with my Galaxy S Epic which is why I now have a Nexus phone. Please don't make me regret sticking with you and your slow ass 3G speeds.

Been with Sprint for nearly 15 years now, but now that I'm on a smartphone and not a dumbphone the SLOOOOOOOW software updates are really ticking me off. Sprint better get their butts in gear and start keeping up. I'm beginning to look at T-Mo myself as LTE isn't likely to arrive in the WNY market for at least a couple years.

Keeping up with whom? Everyone knew the gsm models would get jb first. That's common knowledge. Patience people. Ics isn't bad at all. You will all survive a few weeks more.

Chill on the obsession with superfluous geography.

Sometimes these reports give us a sense of how updates are rolled out. Sometimes they don't.

Congrats to all those that are getting the update. I have the Sprint Galaxy Nexus and I'm loving it. With that being said, I hope Sprint and Google gets this update sometime this summer. But by the way things are looking, the GN from the play store is the way to go with no worries. I will definitely get the next Nexus from the play store. Until then I will enjoy my phone hoping to get the update soon.

Will we ever see Jelly Bean here in Canada?

We're still on 4.0.1, thanks to the yakjuux build. If this update doesn't come OTA in a reasonable timeframe, I'll be sincerely disappointed. Can't even count on a Nexus phone for timely updates.

Can't wait till this hits the UK, Flashed the US rom onto my Xoom last night so with any luck I'll have JB on both my GNex and my Xoom by the end of the month!! Nexus all the way baby!! WOOoooo

Stop spamming, CDMA Nexus's receive updates from the carrier instead of Google. Its the price you pay for having a fake.

So happy that you're not getting it for spammer! Perhaps by the time Key lime pie comes out you'll get your OTA! Happy Happy!

Almost 2 days hitting the damn check now button and nothing! I'm about to give up! I feel like donkey: "are we there yet?!"

Finally got my first taste of Jelly Bean and its buttery fast! I'm on a Bell GNEX running the yakju build (4.0.4) and after days of mashing the damn check now button I followed these instructions and to my surprise I was actually prompted with the 4.1.1 update:

-Go into Setting -> Apps -> All -> Google Services Framework
-You will see a button for “Clear Data”; clear it.
-Go into your dialer and type *#*#2432546#*#*  - This will cause a ‘force checkin’. You will notice that it shows “checkin succeeded” across the top.
Go back to Setting -> About Phone -> System updates and then click the check now button.

With any luck you will get the update we've all been waiting for. Best of luck!

Totally worked after 4 tries! However, I'm not currently someplace with wifi and it says that the update is wifi only until July 14, for whatever reason. Something to keep in mind.

i wasnt getting an update and kept checking but decided to unlocked the bootloader and got it 5 minutes later. I was on 4.0.4 takju imm761
