The Galaxy S5 pictured from every angle you can imagine

LMFAO!!! WOW! snapdragon 800 huh! Damn, Apple really caught everyone by surprise then, that article was actually not lying when they quoted those Qualcomm employees.

It's using the SD801...
2.3GHz is 800. 2.5GHz is 801

Sent from my Galaxy S4 running SlimKat 4.4.2

What are you talking about? First off, it looks like the LTE variant will be running the Snapdragon 805 (slight bump from the 800). And, if you're talking about the article that stated Qualcomm was "surprised" by the A7 being 64-bit, I think you've misunderstood. No one was surprised that Apple released a 64-bit CPU, they were surprised by how *quickly* Apple released it. ARM released the 64-bit version of their reference architecture (that Apple and everyone else bases their SoC's off of) early last year. Qualcomm, Intel and Samsung have, most likely, had 64-bit SoC's in development since shortly after that. But I doubt anyone has put anywhere near the kind of emphasis on getting a 64-bit mobile SoC to the market because, why would they?

64-bit really only enables working with larger numbers (compared to 32-bit). The ability to address more than 4gb of memory is a side effect of the fact that you can use larger numbers for RAM addresses. 64-bit also allows for more precision in calculations, which is beneficial for things like video/audio encoding. But for basic day-to-day work, it's not *nearly* as big a deal as everyone seems to be making it out to be.

If you still don't believe me, ask yourself this: did desktop PC's take a monumental step forward in processing power when they turned 64-bit?

any flagship phone from Sony to HTC or LG kills this thing.

role on the HTC M8

This event should have been called " Pack and go home by 5", not "Unpacked 5"

Not going to happen. This is the S5 and the most premium device they will launch until the Note 4

Balloon deflated and it sounds like the biggest fart ever... How disappointing. Looks like I'll be trying something other then Samsung

Samsung seriously dropped the ball, many people are tired of the design, I don't care about plastic, but come on Samsung, you were supposed to make it even sleeker than the S4. I'm so disappointed so far, staying with nexus 5 it is.

The blue and orange and silver don't do it any favors either. Funny, what looked good on the original N7 looks like garbage here. Geesh these are ugly. Step down from the GNex even, exit stage left indeed.

At least the Note 3 looked like a nice stylish phone. This one looks fugly as heck. That 'dimpled' back looks rather tacky and those bigger bezels are a no-no.

Posted from my Nexus 5

I have to agree with you. I'd say the G2 or the One take the prize for best looking phone.

Posted from my "Gift from God" Note 3, my "God-Given" iPad Mini 2, or my "Risen" Samsung Chromebook.

It's a very subjective question, since everyone has slightly different tastes. But, considering the OP said "...was [their] best looking phone" I think it's safe to assume the context was intended to be within Samsung's lineup.

But, like I said, it's very subjective. I don't personally agree with Mercgroid saying that the G2 was the best looking. I'm not even sure about the HTC One, although it was attractive enough. I will agree, however, that the dimpled back of the S5 is not attractive at all. My opinion only. Personally, I do think the Note 3 is a very attractive looking phone.

But none of that makes anyone else's opinion less valid. We need to stop attacking people for stating their opinion what how a phone looks. Or functions, for that matter.

I should have been more specific earlier. I was meaning the S3 was Samsungs best looking phone in the S series. IMO the One is the best looking phone of all. ;)

Posted via HTC One on Sprint

Agreed but the HTC one would look super cool with faux leather back someone should make a render as its never gonna happen

Posted via Stock Nexus 4*

Wow the haters are in full force today. What Samsung does from here on out will never be enough. If the phone doesn't cure cancer Samsung isn't trying hard enough.

I disagree. So far the Note line has been an improvement each year but the Galaxy S line seems to be fizziling out.

Posted via HTC One on Sprint

He is stating that the Note series has shown improvement with each iteration. While the S series, in his opinion has taken steps back with each version. I have to agree with him. I almost bought the Note 3 but couldn't deal with how awful TW is in almost every respect.

You do realize that you can easily replace the launcher, right? And then the only difference is the settings menu being "grouped". One of the beautiful things about Android is that you can replace pretty much *everything* right down to the "Share" menu.

Just like when you go over to imore to troll and make asshole remarks about people's mother.

Posted via Android Central App

I do not "troll" on imore, posing relevant questions and having an opinion is not "trolling". Try again my friend.

And for the record the mother comment was a retaliation to a mother comment that user made here on AC. It was not just out of the blue.

You have a warped perspective of what "fact" is.

Who is really trolling this comment section? Your comments have nothing to do with the article.

I was reading the article since I own a note 3 so I was interested then I saw your logo and remembered the troll who talks about people's mother on Imore talking about all the hate on this forum just found it funny that's all .

Posted via Android Central App

To be fair brother, the user (I forgot his name) he's talking about did in fact make a "your mom" joke that was completely random.

On a lighter note, how are you liking the Note 3?

Posted from my "Gift from God" Note 3, my "God-Given" iPad Mini 2, or my "Risen" Samsung Chromebook.

Love it. If you read the impression article comments he just couldn't wait to start.all i am saying is have a little class

Posted via Android Central App

Its the same looking phone for 3 years in a row now. They're becoming Apple with the same design over and over.

Posted via Android Central App

Why are they haters folks are just giving their opinion its funny when the shoe is on the other foot samsung fans get defensive. Oh if the phone doesn't cure cancer it will not be enough. Here is my thoughts Samsung had could have taken this time to focus on design this is nothing but a S3+S4 mix with another plastic back and a heart rate monitor nothing special about this. Lets be real no sense in defending something when you know it did not meet or exceed expectations and i don't feel sorry for these companies they do this to themselves attacking adds saying this and that and bam they are in the same position as their competition. Think about samsung design hasn't changed since they moved away form the form that got them sued so unless some other company whether HTC, LG, APPLE, makes something that sparks them to change its gonna be like this period its cheaper to just change the backs and keep things plastic , HTC had this exact problem when it was on top all of their phones looked alike each new phone looked exactly like the other with just soft touch or hard plastic or metal and gloss and you see where that lead to right! okay then if sammy keeps down this route the others will pass them by because speck wars are over its about the feel and look of the device especially for 600 plus dollars because this is not a cheap phone.

Even though it seems as though Sammy is doing an Apple style release with all the colors and a really cheap feel. I was really hoping for a more industrial feel maybe a metal battery cover. or even sharper lines. I'll always love Sams software but it bugs me a bit with this cheap feel. I'll just stick with the note line up. Hope they don't F'up the hardware on that as they almost did. nonetheless it''s still a cool looking phone just not the taste of us tech gadget heads.

If you want a metal back cover you can get one of those in the aftermarket for anywhere from $4.00 to $18.00 a copy.

specs on the average is okay . just that we expected physical changes on the phones outward looks

You know what - thought I wouldn't like it but I actually love it. Samsung's design is Samsung's design - they are going to do what's been successful for them. But in writing this from a GS3, I know this is a phone that's going to last and do pretty much everything well. Aesthetically, this thing looks great! And the waterproofing feature is, dare I say it, THE BIG KAHUNA. This thing is going to sell like hotcakes.

Posted via Android Central App

Wait.... you think the iphone 5 is going to be this great new innovative hand set like the 5 and 5s was? /S come on man stop apple trolling

lol. Yes, because there are no other Android phones that you could possibly be happy with, so you'll just have to settle for an iPhone /s

I hope you're right. I used to believe that too, but Samsung seems to be the only ones making money in the premium segment. I lost a lot of hope when Google sold off Motorola.

I wouldn't write Motorola off just yet.

Posted from my "Gift from God" Note 3, my "God-Given" iPad Mini 2, or my "Risen" Samsung Chromebook.

I think you might be overestimating how much input Google had with the recent Motorola phones. The X and G were both superb phones, in their respective price brackets, based on everything I've seen. And Lenovo is a company that knows how to make some nice hardware, so I agree with Mercdroid: definitely don't write Moto off just yet.

According to some articles they only sold part and kept bits for their hardware team - they have bought a lot if other companies to work as their hardware team too so u have high hopes for android future, especially after seeing that demonstration video of project tango

Posted via Stock Nexus 4*

When you guys gonna put a gallery in the android central app? Kind of a PITA to have to open in the browser after opening in the app...just a suggestion.

Posted via Android Central App

Moto x are built around real customer needs, not some crap gimick Samsung put that ppl may or may not use. For me, I haven't seen Samsung put out anything that is worth noting, and I have to say moto x beats it in every aspect except the display.

You mean every way except Display and Camera. Removable storage and battery would be good but neither are necessary. Other than that - yes the Moto X is great.

That design looks like a disaster! Absolutely hideous! I'll take my classy N4 over this goofy colored golf ball any day.

Idc what anyone says I love Samsung phones. I went to the mesmerize atUS Cellular from iPhone at AT&T amd I wont ever use anything else I dont think. Guess We'll have to see. Never had any major problems with any of the galaxy phones. Aside from the normal small hiccups every smart phone has. But do know one thing for sure. I will NEVER go back to CRAPple!

Posted via Android Central App

The one thing I really like (and I'm a Samsung hater) is the back. I think it will be very grippy, and we all know we need that on our little computers.

I see the "phone as fashion accessory" crowd is out in force today. Nothing Samsung does will ever satisfy these guys. If they came out with something carved out of titanium, they'd complain. Give me a swappable battery and removable SD card over your oh so precious "metal phone" any day.

The one thing that does strike me as odd is that the water seal leaves the camera and flash outside the sealed area. That gives me pause.

The camera and flash are going to be water sealed with the chassis... it's the user accessible/removable parts (battery, sim and sd card) that need to be sealed under the cover's seal and cant be permanently sealed.

Looks Good and has some nice features but there is nothing there that makes me want to rush out and make a purchase. For me they could of done better over hyped. I envisage other manufacturer's doing alot better with design and software and therefore trumping this the all New S5. I cant see this meeting Samsungs targets.

Posted via Android Central App

Same. But, if Sony released an updated Z Ultra with led flash, and if T-Mobile offered it, then Sony would probably take my money.

Posted from my "Gift from God" Note 3, my "God-Given" iPad Mini 2, or my "Risen" Samsung Chromebook.

Yes my next purchase may be an Apple and i have been anti apple for years, this S5 is a pathetic attempt and i wouldn't of released this to the public. It needed that spark but no flint lol

Posted via Android Central App

Wait, so it's a Samsung phone, or no Android at all? Really, man? The advantage of Android is that you have a choice of phones. If you like and want an iPhone, go for it. More power to you. But don't make asinine statements about how just because you don't like how this one phone looks, you're giving up on Android and getting an iPhone.

You'll love the Nexus 5. It has a beautiful display and is the fastest phone I've ever used.

Posted from my "Gift from God" Note 3, my "God-Given" iPad Mini 2, or my "Risen" Samsung Chromebook.

then you may be dissapointed this year.. I don't think HTC's One this year is Aluminum.. to me it looks like Faux Aluminum.

Some people from this site are actually going to buy this phone just because it is a 5 and that number is bigger than 4.

Posted via Android Central App

Sadly true. But, hey... some people might honestly like how this phone looks. It might even be an upgrade for them if they've got an older phone or have had one the super cheap budget phones. I'm certain this will sell decently well, regardless of what you or I think of it.

I have no intention to purchase this phone because I prefer the Note line of products. However, when I read the comments about how people are going to jump to Apple because of their disappointment with the announcement of S5, that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever in my opinion.

There are a bunch of people who are in the final year of their two year contract on the S3, and will buy this phone in the millions. They are not the tech heads who visit this site and others, but the average Jane and Joe public who could care less about upgrades, removable batteries, sdcard slots and all that other stuff. Most people just want the latest "Galaxy Phone" and many of the millions who are at the upgrade point will jump all over this phone.

It appears to be a great phone. If you own a S3 this would be the logical upgrade.

Jesus Wept look how ugly that thing is, the finger print scanner looks like it was slapped on at the last minute.

Posted via Android Central App

I don't care much for the looks of the device either like most but what other phone will be equal to or surpass this S5 in functionality AND have a sd card slot and removable battery (not so important)?? If there is such a device PLEASE let me know! The ONLY other device that I see myself holding out for is the Note 4 which is what I will most likely be doing since I will be upgrade eligible this year.

I am no fan of Samsung but I am a bit confused as to what kind of design change they were supposed to make? The dimpled back is ugly and the home button needs to go but do we expect the look of the phone to really change that much? They're not becoming more like Apple, they're just continuing the brand.

So much for that three sided screen patent. They're doing the iphone market strategy let's see how many times we can get peopleto buy the same phone!

If Apple releases a big screen new iPhone later this year, it will no doubt have much higher specs than the Samsung S5.

I will probably jump ship to iOS if that happens, unfortunately. :(

Bigger and Fatter overall than the S4.. Fatter Bezels than the S4.. A Fatter Chin than the S4.. Same amount of RAM as the S4.. One less internal storage option ( 16/32/64 for the S4 vs 16/32 for the S5) and styled like the slightly less fit twin sister...
Yeah.... It's Official.. Samsung now considers you "Sheep" that will gladly fork out $650.00 - $700.00 + Tax and case for the honor to own a retrograde telephone.. Unbelievable.

Let's not forget the upgraded camera optics, waterproofing/dustproofing, battery improvements, finger scanner, etc. It's still a major upgrade from the S4 in every way.

Posted via Android Central App

Some of these comments are hilarious. Samsung is not the face of Android. The success of the Galaxy S5 is not linked to the success of Android. Many of you "Android" fans fail to realize that. This device will sell by the millions just like every device before it. Samsung knows exactly what they are doing. When we start running billion dollar mobile companies then may be our opinions will matter. As a lover of all smartphones in general, this device is a HUGE win for android and for Samsung. Definitely starting the fire for the smartphone summer sizzle. Excited to see what HTC has coming as well as LG

I have no idea what you are smoking up there "In_The_Sky" but I wish I had some if you see this as anything but an Epic Fail...
Yes "Samsung Sheep" will purchase this $700.00 telephone just to say they have it.. but Samsung could have ushered us into 2014 with something *Spectacular*.. not a warmed over S4... as a competitor (LG, HTC, Sony Huawei) I would be chuckling at this 2014 "Target Device" . Would you really sell your S4, G2, Z1, Nexus 4/5, HTC One, Moto-X, Note 3 for this??? I think the majority would say a resounding "NO-WAY".

Our opinions mean nothing. Your opinion means nothing as well as mine. It'll sell by the millions. People said the same about the S4 and the iPhone 5s. People are having a hissy sissy fit over something minute. It's not that serious. I have the Note 3, HTC One, LG G2 and iPhone 5S. I'll soon add this to my collection.

Posted via Android Central App

This phone is actually a significant upgrade over the SGSIV. Where Samsung went horribly wrong is not drastically changing the design

Agreed. +1. Spot on ol' chap!

To be honest, I have a note 3 and you would have to pry it out of my dead cold hands before trying to hand me this S5. Simply saying, not interested one bit.

Posted via Android Central App

They keep adding features that most people will never use. I will say that TW has gotten a lot better but I still takes up way too much space because of all the bullshit bloat added in. I think I might have to pass on this one plus my ol' S3 will be getting official KitKat here soon so theres that.

it's funny to read comments about how Samsung is doomed and how they didn't make a huge jump so they are like Apple... well i think 2 things will happen in 2014..
1) you will see A LOT of companies steer away from the SPEC race cause Qualcomm just announced their Octa-core 64 bit LTE processor and it'll be end of this year or start of 2015 before we will see it.. plus how much more could the S5 have been improved?? 805 instead of the 801? i am assuming it's the 801 since it's 2.5 instead of 2.7.. maybe 3 GB of RAM instead of 2GB... and more internal memory.. but if u can expand it up to 64gb then it's a minor set back...and the camera was bumped to 16mb.. but will it take good pictures?? the Samsung devices have a hard time taking decent pictures if ur not COMPLETELY STILL... design?? well what else can u make the device? maybe metal, but metal or anything similar has it's own downfalls.. so they went with something inbetween hard and soft..so at this moment I believe there is a plateau of specs u can put into these smartphones... Android devices have finally caught up and this is the year to perfect the devices... Samsung at this present moment doesn't need to WOW anyone.. they need a moment where they spend time perfecting other aspects such as battery life.. for a device to have 10% battery and last even reportedly 24 hours is KEY.... so i think 2014 will be a year of the same specs but refined OS' and better battery life etc etc.. i think the HTC one (the new one) will just be the same thing has the previous one.. as we have seen in LEAKS.. Sony Z2.. almost identical looking to the Z1.. with minor updates.. see the trend?

2) this might be Apple's year to take back the throne... Although I HATE HATE HATE the iphone and all Apple products with the passion... i believe 2014 is the year they can really get back some of that marketshare from Samsung and the likes... why? well.... while everyone was making some CRAZY advancements to quad core, upping their cameras, graphics, screen sizes, revamping OS' etc... Apple sat quiet.. did minor updates.. got a little slack form people saying they were small updates and every device looks the same.. 64 bit is useless right now etc etc... but they still made a nice looking device that appealed to their loyal and to win SOME people back with the 5s and the slight revamp of iOS7.. to make it more girly.. (sorry i had to throw in a jab). so they made a lot of money still.. now 2014.. android devices are slowing down in specs and design.. it's time to step it up for Apple.. with their TINY TINY screens, crappy battery life, and their restrictive behavior.. if they make a 5inch device, with better battery, some high end processing power, a BETTER then retina screen, with the same build quality and a slight design modification .. although it'll be the SAME as the S5 and the HTC ONE and the Z2.. it'll be a HUGE jump for apple and therefore a lot of people will jump ship to it and the Apple fanboys/girls will be going CRAZY!! people don't even know what the iphone 6 looks like or whats in it and people are ALREADY thinking of jumping ship after seeing the S5 release...

when things are HIGH u ride low... when things are low you ride HIGH... if apple doesn't jump on it this year then Tim Cook is a bigger moron then i would have thought...but who am i? just a person with an opinion.. obviously Tim Cook is smarter then me haha.. and that;'s why he's making millions and i'm not.. but just saying ; >

Samsung S 5 is very cool! I have bought it in april in Ukraine. We have version with Samsung Exynos 5 Octa 5422 and gpu is ARM Mali T628MP6.
We have no models with LTE in Ukraine wich use Snapdragon.

I want to write my own opinion about this phone:
So about it water resistant - i have shot the video in pool - it is very funny.
About Samsung Exynos 5 Octa 5422 - it works fast but sometimes hesitates when overheated.
About GPU ARM Mali T628MP6 - all games are working fine, but it warms up the phone.
About camera - the camera in Samsung S5 is very cool, i have made more than thousand photos.

To sum up, I am very pleased with the phone.
