Droid 2 Global to come in two colors

9

Remember how the Droid 2 Global had a couple of SKU numbers on that leaked Verizon rebate sheet? Looks like that's because it's going to be available in a couple of colors, according to Costco's inventory system. There's the white version that we've already seen, plus traditional black. As for exactly when it's going to drop? We're still expecting sometime in the fourth quarter. [BGR]

Facebook is holding a mobile event on Nov 3

24

We just received an invite to a "Mobile Event at Facebook HQ" scheduled for Wednesday Nov 3.  No press release, no fanfare, no inkling of what it might be, just the invitation.  When thinking to ourselves, "Why would Facebook invite Android Central to their big Mobile shin-dig?" we can come up with a few answers.  Maybe there's going to be a new and improved Facebook client for Android with deep ties into Gingerbread.  Maybe there really is going to be a Facebook phone.  Or maybe it's our dashing good looks and the great conversation we would bring along.  We'll know more Wednesday.

The much rumored about Sony "Playstation" phone has posed for more pictures and let a few more details out about itself.

Engadget was able to score some more pictures of what appears to be a test version of the device. Here are some details: The phone is codenamed "Zeus," is running Android 2.2, has an 8GB microSD card slotted and has at least 512MB of internal storage.

Nothing concrete has been confirmed about what the device will actually release with, but the details we've learned over the past week suggest it could be an awesome gaming phone. We'll keep you updated with anything further that is learned. Head over to the source for more pictures. Thoughts? [Engadget]

Alltel HTC Wildfire mini review

8

When HTC recently announced that the mid-range Wildfire would be coming to the United States after its run in Europe, we didn't know any of the regional carriers involved. Turns out that Alltel -- what's left of it anyway, was first out the gate with what's been previously codenamed the HTC Bee.

Join us after the break for a mini review of the 3.2-inch HTC Widlfire, available now for $29.99 on two-year contract.

Cuddle up with your very own angry bird

12

Want to show your love for Angry Birds, or perhaps just console one of the avian kamikaze fighters who recently had their eggs stolen by cowardly green pigs?  Well then, my dear Android Central reader, you can.  I can't promise he won't attempt to destroy your house in search of golden eggs, so don't hold us responsible if your house is reduced to rubble.

The holiday season is right around the corner, and this would make a great gift for any Angry Birds fan.  Although the birds won't ship until sometime in December, we have no idea how many preorders they're taking.  So head on over to ToyWiz or shop.angrybirds.com and order yours for $14.99 while supplies last.

Slingshot and precariously built wooden fortress sold separately.

Unicorns, the Nexus Two, Continuum and HTC Merge [From the forums]

0

Where do we talk about gnomes, unicorns and Android phones that might or might not exist? In the Android Forums at Android Central, of course! Here's what's going on as we head into the weekend:

  • The Nexus Two/Nexus S if on everybody's mind this week, and everybody has their own source on what it is, and when it's coming out. Discuss the Nexus Two rumors here.
  • The Samsung Continuum is expected to be announced on Nov. 8. We've already had our hands on it. Have a question? Ask it here!(Oh, and there might be free stuff involved.)
  • Then there's the HTC Merge, coming to Verizon. It's just a question of when, folks. Discuss the HTC Merge here.
  • And of course there's the Wifi-only version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab. Is it coming? When is it coming, and how much is it going to cost? We're talkin' Tab here.

Verizon rebate form shows Motorola Droid 2 Global, Citrus, Samsung Continuum (Updated)

3

Verizon's upcoming rebate form has surfaced, bringing with it lots of exciting (if expected) Android wares. What you see above is just a partial shot of what Engadget received. We clearly see the Droid 2 Global, which has a pair of SKUs, which they surmise may mean it'll get a cameraless version and not the Droid Pro. There's also the Samsung Continuum (see our hands-on), which will be unveiled Nov. 8 in New York City. The Motorola Citrus (see our hands-on) also is there.

So there's really little doubt that we'll see most if not all of these phones in November, and we now know that they'll all be rebated, so figure no more than $250 or so out of pocket. [Engadget]

Update: Phone Arena has posted the full rebate form. The LG Vortex -- that's a Bing phone we've seen before -- is on there as well.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 update begins rolling out this weekend

4

If you listen carefully, you can hear the cheer of X10 users all around the world celebrating their impending update to Android 2.1.  Scheduled to begin on Sunday in Nordic countries, this 2.1 update will crawl around the world, one market at a time over the coming months.

Although the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 didn't perform as well as we'd hoped, we were optimistic that its flaws would be ironed out with updates, but unfortunately, the x10 family has been stuck on Android 1.6 since its launch back in August.  The hardware inside the Xperia X10 isn't cutting edge, but it certainly isn't outdated by any means.  Whatever reasons Sony Ericsson had to launch the X10 with an outdated OS remains a mystery to us.  I can say with a certain measure of confidence that the X10 would have been received better had it been loaded with Android 2.1.  Here's to hoping an Eclair is all the X10 needed to achieve its full potential.

But I digress.  Xperia X10 users, get ready to start enjoying your device even more.  Check out the list of enhancements after the break.  [via Sony Ericsson Blog]
