LG Optimus 3D hands-on

We all knew it was coming -- LG was going all-in with 3D screen technology, and they've done it with the Optimus 3D. And, surprisingly, it's not horrible.

The phone itself is fairly unremarkable -- your basic black slab. It's got a 4.3-inch touchscreen powered by a 1GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4 processor, and flipping through Android 2.2 (it'll get a Gingerbread update at some point, LG says) was plenty fast.

But 3D is what this phone is all about. And not just playing 3D videos, which was pretty cool, but recording them as well. The Optimus 2D has not one but two 5MP cameras on the rear for stereoscopic recording. And you can even see what you're recording in 3D in real time on the touchscreen display.

So how's the 3D look? It's ... different. Your eyes will have to adjust to it some, but it's not the worst thing in the world, and some content looks better than other. Battery life, we're told, is boosted by the dual-core processor. But you know how those things go -- you'll need to use it to see.

There's a handful of 3D-capable games on board, and the phone has a dedicated hardware button that takes you to a special 3D gallery, from which you access all your 3D content, including 3D content on YouTube.

You're going to have to see this to believe it, truly. We're not completely sold on the idea of 3D content, but LG certainly is.

More pics and video are after the break.

Motorola Atrix Car Dock Eyes-on [MWC]

The Motorola Atrix 4G is as much about its accessories as it is about the phone itself. Sure, it's not as magical as the Atrix Laptop dock or even the standard Atrix Media dock, but just for the sake of completeness, here is the official Motorola Atrix Car Dock. Comes with the suction cup and looks easy to position - you simply set the Atrix in there and snap the top down on it to lock it in. Looks like this is charging only, however, no audo-out or fancy Bluetooth or other fangles-that-are-new.

Motorola Pro for Europe - Hands-on [MWC]

Close your eyes and imagine - imagine a strange and crazy world where the Motorola Droid Pro doesn't run on Verizon but instead has been outfitted solely with an HSPA/GSM radio and set for Europe. Image that the only other difference between the Verizon Droid Pro and this crazy new phone - let's call it simply the Motorola Pro - is that it doesn't have any of the custom Verizon software or the Verizon 'droid' branding. Image it still has a 1GHz processor, Android 2.2, and the same version of MotoBlur.

Imagine no more, dear reader, because the Motorola Pro is not only announced, it's real and we have the photos to prove it. What an amazing world we live in - the only way it would be amazing-er is if we had a firm launch date and price. Sadly, all we know is that it's coming to Europe and given that the hardware is here and on display and working, we have assume that it's coming soon.

A few more photos after the break.

LG prepares for a tablet war with the Optimus Pad

At their press event in Barcelona this morning, LG officially showed off their Optimus Pad, and let us all know they are ready for the "tablet war" that 2011 will be.  While they already made an official announcement via press release on Feb 12, this was the first time they gave us a look, and discussed their global strategy for tablet computing.  It seems like they understand that the market for a true tablet computer is going to skyrocket, and they say they are ready for it with the Optimus Pad.  With a 1 GHz Tegra2 dual-core processor the specs are very nice on paper, and you can bet we're going to have a look at real world performance just as soon as we can.

We're not quite sold on the 3D aspect of their newest devices, but we want to be fair and try it ourselves.  The concept sounds good, let's hope the execution can live up. The full press release from today's event is after the break.

Google's Androidify app helps you make your own Android robot avatars

Around here we love Lloyd as well as Andy but we often have late night thoughts of what we, ourselves would look like as Android mascots. OK, maybe just some of us think that way but we're certain we're not alone in that thinking. Luckily, Google was onto that idea as well (or been reading our email again) and have decided to release Androidify to the Android Market. With Androidify you can create your own, modeled after you Android robot. Very cool. Jump on past the break for the promo video and download from the Android Market. [Androidify via @OOBE,Engagdet]
