Xiaomi all set to unveil MIUI 7 on August 13

With MIUI 6 nearing a year since its launch, Xiaomi is getting ready to unveil its upcoming OS, MIUI 7, later this month. The Chinese manufacturer teased the reveal date on Weibo, with a launch event scheduled in Beijing on August 13.

With Xiaomi announcing an iteration of MIUI 6 based on Android 5.0, it is possible MIUI 7 will be built atop Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Not much else is known about the upcoming launch, with the latest rumors suggesting that the Mi 5 will be the first device to offer MIUI 7 out of the box. Given that the Mi 5 is expected to feature Snapdragon 820, it may be a while before we see the phone hitting retail availability.

We'll have all the details from Xiaomi's launch event next week.

  • Aka the ios 9 clone Posted via the Android Central App
  • When iOS 9 is not even out yet? Impressive accomplishment! The reality is that Xiaomi has stopped ripping off Apple, and is beating beaten by Huawei and pursued by Asus and Lenovo who have never copied Apple, yet you Apple fanboys just can't let your lack of monopoly go.
  • Yup, nothing new. Ios clone for sure. Only a blind person cant see that. Using a LG G2 with MIUI 6 here. The UI looks great indeed, but those credits goes to Apple and not Xiaomi Posted via the Android Central App
  • While their Xiaomi Mi Note powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 still running MIUI V6 based on KitKat instead of Lollipop. Posted via the Android Central App by OnePlus One
  • Nothing wrong with an 'ios 9 clone'. I have been a long time android user and an iPhone user for the past year. I bought a Mi4 last week on the cheap and have since stuck my Note 4 in the drawer. I'm finding it the best of both worlds, a beautiful UI with tons of customisation and solid hardware to go along with it for a dirt cheap price. Not as slick as stock android by any means but personally, I find it a lot more pleasing on the eye. Hope the Mi 5 is just as good as the Mi4!
  • I guess people just want their phones to be distinctive from an iDevice. My dad has 2 phones, a Redmi Note that's a Chinese import and an LG G3. I'm still not really liking the aesthetics of MIUI since I prefer the "traditional" form of Android and I personally think it's very iOS-ish, but it does work, but I still prefer the G3's UI, even though MIUI is snappier.
  • While smartphone hardware is near perfection and Android M copies a lot of manufacturer goodies I'm really eager to see what individual distributions like MIUI have to add in the future.
  • So it is launched together with note 5 and s6 edge+ ?? Posted via the Android Central App
  • I really don't care about xiaomi unless they come to the u.s.
Only time I saw a xiaomi phone was in Yellowstone and the tourists had them.
Most had iPhones though Posted via Android Central App on 1+1
  • How could you tell the difference? ^^ ;-)
  • I have a Xiaomi Note. I think this iphone clone thing is over stressed. Just change the theme and BAM... iPhone look is gone. Posted via Android Central app for Symbian.
  • I don't care about upgrade if they bring nothing new to the table. MIUI 6 was recently released for the Redmi6 and includes a ton of welcome changes. My mother is very happy with the new interface. Xiaomi also regularly released bug fixes until the MiUI6 launch, quashing a lot of user-reported bugs all along. I'm happy with the XIAOMI ecosystem of phones.
  • The one thing about Xiaomi is the fact that regularly update their OS. I run the stable version on the Mi4i and it gets updated at least once a month and I love using it. I have also had an iPhone and to just report that miui looks like iOS is simply put just lazy reporting or just non tested lazy commentary. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Nailed it. Ding Dong... Baby sing a song.
  • And here I am with my Redmi Note 3G stuck with Android 4.2 and MIUI5. Shame on you Xiaomi.
  • 4.2 how long have you had the phone? Posted via the Android Central App
