This Pokémon NO Chrome extension will catch 'em all (and kill them)

So all the cool kids are playing this Pokémon Go thing. It's likely the most successful launch of any mobile game in the history of mankind, and it's infected lovingly found it's way into a bazillion websites on the internet. I get it. Popular is popular, and the people enjoying the game like to read about it and discuss everything. That's what the internet was made for. After porn.

But some of us need to take a break from Pokémon. It's not the little monsters' fault, it's us. We just need some time apart. That's where the Pokémon NO Chrome extension comes in.

Install it on your Chromebook or in the Chrome browser on any other computer. Click OK. Say goodbye to Pokémon. Thanks, developer.

  • So it works on Android Central, then?
  • Confirmed. I had to disable it to reply to this post... it wasn't showing up. :)
  • I know these muhfuckas didn't just come at us with a way to hide all their articles LOL. Is this a sick joke? Well anyway,we need a filter for the app. Posted via the Android Central App
  • They did it to block the articles related to pokemon go if you don't care about them. Not all of their articles, and since they are aware there are a lot of pokemon go articles, they want to give you a way out of those Posted via the Android Central App
  • Enough of the Pokémon..... please. Isn't there anything else to report? I'd rather read about an iPhone. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Is there anything that people won't complain about?
  • No. For example, many hours ago AndroidCentral posted about Hangouts 11 but all this time later still haven't addressed that SMS merged conversations disappear with the newest release. That's a huge oversight. Hope this complaint finds you well. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Right??? I said the same thing, give me some secret info on the iPhone 7,then I'll know what the galaxy s8 is gonna be like. That's basically Android news. Posted via the Android Central App
  • How does the galaxy series follow iPhone? Rather the opposite, really... NFC, fingerprint scanner, encryption, and now AMOLED screens.... There's nothing that goes iPhone to Galaxy as far as I know. And no, I'm not even a fan of Samsung Posted via the Android Central App
  • Wow. Hopefully Android Central, if ever, puts out an article about this. Classic Google #TeamFrosty Nexus 6P
  • I'm looking forward to the Note 7 release and I'm sure they will complain about the amount of articles written on that. Then the AC is being paid by Samsung comments will follow. Posted via the AT&T Note 5

  • seriously? that's your response to critical feedback on a website YOU write on that perpetuates mindless drivel like Pokémon with yesterday alone having about 10 articles in a row? maybe you should learn to take it as criticism about your website and fix it, rather than sit and say hes complaining, Andrew. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Exactly! And it not just Andrew, it's all of them. This Pokemon garbage has exposed how childish they can really be. It's very sad.
  • Well, they aren't going to bite the hand that feeds them. And it's not through SEO. #ShillBucks
  • Childish BC they are posting articles that are getting views? Don't read the article if you don't like it, it isn't like you are paying a membership fee and they are writing stuff you don't seem worthy, it is free content, move on. Posted via the Android Central App

  • They do this to everyone that complains in the comments. I got it from Russell some months ago, I think Ace got it from him to, for no good reason, just having a contrary opinion. I say F these guys. It's only hard not coming to a site for a few days, and only because you usually have your website rotation, and it's really weird taking one out, but you get over it pretty fast.
  • Oh yeah I got ripped to shreds over politics. It's okay to have an opinion as long as it doesn't differentiate from theirs. Rodeo time, time to get er on down the road.
  • And now Russell is deleting comments like mad from his articles. Anything he doesn't like. But looking back, he's done that for a long time now. In an already thin-skinned group, he's by far the least capable of listening to or allowing any criticism. Posted via the Android Central App
  • His first month as a main writer was great, then he just became a huge jerk.
  • Yep he deleted my comment saying that he told me to play in traffic last week. Posted via the Pokémon Central App
  • It would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic. He seems incapable of understanding what that type of behavior says about his character. And just in case you're reading, Russell, I'll give you a hint - it's nothing good. But I'm sure the delusional sense of omnipotence that he and a couple of other editors have developed will quickly assuage any brief uneasiness over the possibility that perhaps they're not acting completely professionally. • If any of you, and to be clear I'm referring to the 15 people who take the time to repeatedly behave like entitled monsters, were ever positive about anything I might consider taking you seriously. When I look at your comment history over months and see that all you do is crap on everything, start fights, ramble about political crap, and generally behave like angry basement dwelling cretins, I have neither the need nor desire to treat you like a part of my audience. This whole "what about the faithful?" line is an amazing pile of BS. You're only loyal to your routine, you show no respect for the writers here or the opinions of other readers. You insult everyone because it's what you think is acceptable behavior, and you contribute nothing of any value to this site. Well, guys, I'm done with letting you crap in my sandbox. I used to just delete the comments that were the most offensive and move on. Now I'm going to start banning accounts. Let me be completely, crystal clear about this. I don't want you here if all you're going to do is insult my writing and the other readers. This isn't about disagreeing with me, this is about how you choose to present yourself in these comments. You can either stop the trash talk, or you can be banned from the comments section. Feel free to email my boss with your complaints. Rene at Mobile Nations dot com. Posted via the Android Central App
  • First, thanks for the free info and entertainment(that goes to all of Mobile Nations). These sites are some of my most visited and I thoroughly enjoy the content.
I am also sick and tired all of the crap in the comments. I like when we can have a civil discussion about the article versus having to wade through a bunch of crap that a few users constantly post. I do enjoy sarcasm, but too many if the comments go straight past that and often have nothing to do with the article. Have a good one. Posted via the Android Central App

I have been here 4+ years and don't ever pull that card on someone since I want everyone to be welcome. I value other opinions and there are MANY times in the forums I have learned from others on things I didn't know. That is the point of a community :).

  • Wow. That's very adult of you.
  • If it is so trash why did you take time to log in and leave a comment? Posted via the Android Central App
  • Exactly. I think they know the difference between faithful readers who voice concerns and move on, from entitled trolls who pile on for effect, and are simply drama queens. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Is there any way you guys can treat your customers like, you know people? Of all the comments on the Pokemon articles, how many are about the actual article and how many are ******** about how many Pokemon articles there are? You guys can't make a few large articles encompassing multiple topics? No, because all this is about is page clicks from Google searches. Go ahead, piss off all the people that made the site what it use to be. It's like going to a restaurant, watching the waiter piss in your beer, and then he yells at you for complaining about it.
  • There's only one difference. You're not paying for any of the content on this site like you're paying for the beer. Posted via the Android Central App
  • We pay for it indirectly.

  • It's like you guys are sitting back and saying "yeah those fools will never leave". Well guess what, the Android Central faithful such as myself keep coming back because we remember how great this site used to be and we keep coming back with the hope that maybe Android Central will recapture some of its greatness that it had back in its heyday. • He has a point! This is "Android Central" NOT "Pokemon Central"! I don't give a **** about Pokemon and many readers don't come here for Pokemon! We want the latest news on Android period! Pokemon has nothing to do with Android specific. These articles are total bullshit. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Well, ya know, i read this site everyday. Some articles i like and some not. Oh well...if i don't like the article, i move on. BUT! My daughter likes pokemon. I sent her to this site to read the pokemon articles that's of use to her. And while she was at it, she started reading other articles. Now she loves this site. Not for pokemon....but for everything.
  • Yet, you troll all of them
  • You can use an iPhone to play Pokémon GO!
  • Then go to imore. This is the news right now. It is pretty big stuff given how much it has taken hold in such a short time. I'm all for the news on it, even if I only play the game 2 or 3 times. Posted via the Android Central App
  • If it were an Android exclusive taking away sales from otherwise iPhone users,it would be news on Android Central. This however is not Android news and is therefore technically useless. Posted via the Android Central App
  • How is the biggest mobile game not news? I dont play the game and I realize it is news. Posted via the Android Central App
  • It's kinda like this, microsoft is big on advertising games like halo, and constantly showing off gears of war 4 because that's Microsoft news. It's Xbox only. They don't sit there and show off the latest call of duty because anybody can play it. This isn't Android news. Posted via the Android Central App
  • It's the biggest mobile game in US history. It is in the news cycle everywhere. If it affects android and is a major part of the cycle it is fully worth being here. Posted via the Android Central App
  • So Microsoft has never advertised a non-exclusive game? Sorry, it is a popular game, it is on Android, it is on this site and should be. And for the record I have no idea what the game even is, Pokémon is foreign to me so I have zero interest in it and I know it is relevant. The park I live next to is full of people running around playing, I have never seen so many groups of people ever play another mobile game, so this is news. Posted via the Android Central App
  • They have, but it's not a priority at all of course. I don't know though, maybe I'm just a hater, but I guess if the AC editors want the whole page to be Pokemon then I guess the home buttons just below my thumb. Posted via the Android Central App

  • Someone hit Phil on Twitter and asked him to stop the storm of Pokemon articles. His response was something to the effect of "Why? People are reading the hell out of them." However, I suspect that most people are skipping the articles altogether and going straight to the comments to complain about the articles. Phil's metrics are fooling him into thinking that most of us actually wanted all that drivel. And I'm sure he's all too happy to be fooled. Not one to admit fault, our Phil. • And I'm sure that not everyone who visits but doesn't post is happy about the deluge of Pokemon articles. I fail to understand what argument you're attempting to make. Posted via the Android Central App

  • I have no idea. But I do know that we work here. We have bosses. We do our jobs the way the people who pay want us to do them. All the hate towards writers is like yelling at the busboy because you don't like the menu. I don't particularly care. People can hate on me all they like if that's how they wanna roll. Just know I have a job to do, and I try to do it.
  • Hey, you're the best jerry! I know what you mean, you are doing as your told as I understand that 100% I just express concern over the future of the site is all as an up and coming 3 year member of AC. I appreciate your response. Posted via the Pokémon Central App
  • I didn't mean you (or anyone) in particular. I looked at what I wrote and it came off like that. Sorry. And for what it's worth, I encourage people to speak up. I just know (because I'm old and have many years of stupid mistakes behind me) that speaking up politely, and to the right people, is much more effective than how some folks are handling their dislike of this poke-stuff.
  • No problem jerry! Keep on keeping on, I say :) Posted via the Pokémon Central App
  • Exactly Jerry. I get it. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Can you please point us in the direction of the right people? I would love to speak with them
  • I think it's just Phil or bust. Posted via the Pokémon Central App
  • So basically, it's bust. If we do get any reaction from Phil, it will be a line in his weekly editorial about how we're all ridiculous and he can do no wrong. PoGo-Gate. Or Pokegate? Something like that anyway. Let's spread the word...
  • I hear you man, but there was a great deal of polite pleading that went on before we all went ballistic. I actually TRIED to find a single post from Phil, or any one of the senior editors, that directly and openly addressed people's concerns. Nada. All we saw in response was an enormous increase in PoGo articles. And Phil's scornful Twitter posts on the subject. For the record - and this is not addressed to you, because you've never struck me this as deficient in this regard - a little humility and honesty from AC would go a long way to appeasing the many (MANY) readers who are upset about this fiasco. Posted via the Android Central App
  • DING DING DING Posted via the Pokémon Central App
  • Phil wasn't too apologetic to me either. It seems like long time users of this site are being taken for granted and our input is being totally ignored. I guess he really doesn't care if he loses us as readers. Not the way to run a business. First rule of business: Do no harm. He is doing a LOT of harm right now.
  • tuh 3 years.
  • Jerry, I respect you and I'm honestly not trying to come off like a dick here, but are you really telling us that the brass at Mobile Nations handed down an edict ordering AC editors to write every one of the Pokemon Go articles posted over the last few days? That Phil and the rest of you have no autonomy? Frankly, I find that difficult to believe. Posted via the Android Central App
  • That's exactly what I suspected all along. It's like DJs forced to play a genre of music they hate because the station has switched formats.
  • If that's really the case - and I still find that highly unlikely - then all they need to do is come right out and say it. Tell us that you understand our frustration but have no choice. I think everyone would accept that. PoGo-Gate. Or Pokegate? Something like that anyway. Let's spread the word...
  • That's not going to happen Phil will write us off in his editorial and call us "whiners". Posted via the Pokémon Central App
  • Some do.
  • Indeed Posted via the Pokémon Central App

  • Probably not much to post on. I normally don't mind but this is getting a little ridiculous I mean there are substantially more articles on Pokemon than anything else. It seems common sense to me that over doing a topic would be bad (and 10 articles in a day, almost back to back it certainly over doing it). Posted via the Android Central App
  • They are certainly overdoing it. I follow a few android sites, and none of the others have gone this far off the deep end. I don't mind a few articles, but this is just a bit over the top.

When they ran a ton of Samsung Articles I didn't read them because I'm not interested in Samsung. I read some Pokémon because I'm interested. When I'm not, I go do something with my life. Although I never comment on how much i enjoy the Pokémon articles and find the useful. I just appreciate that they write them, and also write other articles at the same time.
Comments feel like old people complaining about how younger people are dressing. I find it odd. Face it, other than Pokémon go, it's been a pretty slow news week in Android. Posted from my One M8 running a version of Android other than what HTC intended
  • This is more like 30 articles about the features in touchwiz. Making a new article about every feature instead of one or two, or even five articles is really bullshit. We don't give two ***** about the fact there are articles about the game, it's the ridiculous amount. I can't even imagine how hard it is to find something in the app right now, it has to be a drag. The articles surrounding new phones is also crap, just not in the same league as this crap.
  • I have no trouble finding things in the app. I hit the mark things as read button when I'm done, so that is easy to find things that are new next time I open the app. So I don't really have trouble.
I agree that there are a lot of articles and that several of them should be condensed. But people have being saying that about all the mobile nations websites for a long time. This Pokemon **** will die down and you all know it. If any of you don't think the other Android sites aren't writing about Pokemon then you're blind. Also.. look at AC's most recent post about Pokemon. This is the most popular mobile game in US history. • Well, my entire news feed on everything I follow is filled with nothing but Pokemon Go. Thanks for sharing the extension, Jerry. I'm getting tired of seeing it, and I need to take a break to regain my sanity. Just to be clear. I don't hate the game. I just think that it's going to be a fad.
  • First and last comment from me: I also find the Pokémon invasion a bit much...not just here, but EVERYWHERE. It's not hard to understand. Pokémon Go is a major phenomenon, and tens of millions of Android users have downloaded it from the Google Play Store in a few short days. I can disagree with the number and mix of the articles on AC, but OF COURSE THEY SHOULD WRITE ABOUT IT here. I am not sure what is more annoying to me: the article load or the They're Ruining This Site!!?! complaints. For me, I just skip the Pokémon Go articles that I don't want to read, and there appears to be plenty of other posts to keep me busy reading.
  • I think this whole Pokémon crap is a joke. This is just me personally BTW. Stupid bored people running around at all hours playing a game on their phones just proves that they don't really have a clue about utilizing their time in a worthwhile manner. It's just another craze these types have to be part of in their bored existences, or children who don't know any better for lack of adequate supervision. As to the rash of stories about it here just proves that there really isn't much real Android news that generates as many page hits. Is it irritating to see so many of articles about it, YES, are they going to do anything about it, YES, they will make it even more irritating by posting more. It brings in revenue here and it is "trending" everywhere and isn't going to die down quickly. Jerry posted a solution, if you use Chrome and not many people have taken the time to just say... " Thank You"... So Thank you Jerry.. Please find as many of these helpful things if you have the time that work for most other Browsers too... I'm a long time reader here but have only been posting for a few years and I say to those long timers here who are ranting, just don't click on crap you don't want to read, and stop with all the complaints in the comments section. Send them a message and voice your concerns and do it respectfully. Your not paying for what gets posted here so why act all butthurt when you get chastised by one of the writers here.. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Here's my two cents: They have to keep the lights on and keep the payroll possible. We don't pay a penny for their work. In the amount of time people have spent throwing fits in comment sections they could have likely found another outlet or at least something actually productive to do. TL;DR
You get what you pay for people.
