Gingerbread announcement Monday at Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco?

Let's just throw this one out there and see if it sticks to the wall tomorrow: Reader Steve (hi, Steve!) Points out that Google CEO Eric Schmidt opens up the Web 2.0 Summit on Monday in San Francisco, speaking alongside Tim O'Reilly of O'Reilly Media Inc. and John Battelle of Federated Media Publishing.

It's labeled as "A Conversation with Eric Schmidt," and no topics are specifically mentioned. Nikesh Arora, Google's president of Global Sales Operations and Business Development, speaks later in the day, So maybe we'll get Gingerbread, and maybe we won't. But there are worse venues at which to make such an announcement, eh?

  • I just hope he refrains from say Steve Jobs line "It just works". Anyone else notice that was all jobs said when he introduced MAXiPad? Kind of like George Bush and "terror"
  • The longer they wait to announce it the more disappointed everyone's gonna be. If they keep dragging it out like this and it does turn out to be just a couple simple UI changes, That'll suck (for like 2 seconds and then I'll be just fine).
  • i just hope they say SOMETHING about Froyo for Galaxy S phones. its awful that we still havent got 2.2 and 2.3 is just about to come out. they should just skip 2.2 and send us straight to 2.3 :\
  • You're joking right? Lol Newsflash... Google doesn't give a damn about when Samsung updates your phone. That's between you and your bad decision to buy a samngsung device lol
  • People like you irritate the heck out of me. The Euro version is getting 2.2 as we speak. There have been leaks for the Epic and the Vibrant, so we know those are coming soon. It's really just a matter of time. Besides, it's not like the day 2.3 is released we're going to all be sent an update to it. The manufacturers still have to do testing and stuff.
  • It's incredibly easy to update your phone to 2.2 so either do it or quit whining.
  • Sadly, going off of the way Samsung is handling the updates, I don't think a lot of people will want any products from them in the way of Android. I know it makes the Galaxy pad look all that more unappealing. What can you do, right? I'll stick with HTC. WCM
  • HTc all the way...
  • What does oreilly media do? do they do music or anything? If they announce gingerbread and at the same time announce 'google music' or whatever their cloud based music service is, this could be very awesome. but i agree with nivlac's sentiment that dragging it out longer is getting really tiresome. EDIT: nevermind, seems oreilly does 'computer book publishing'...snore.
  • This is basically Google's last chance to announce Android 2.3 "Gingerbread" and or the Nexus S / 2 before the start of the holiday season. The longer it takes Google to release Gingerbread the more unlikely it is that we will see Honeycomb and or Honeycomb devices at CES 2011.
  • hope they have some gingerbread cookies there :)
  • Why does everyone get emotional and complain that google is "dragging" it out? Google has done amazing things with android and you all are starting to act like spoiled little kids that are never happy and whine constantly for the next best thing. I bet you're the same ones that will cry if it was released tomorrow with bugs in a beta version. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Quit bitching and be patient let a quality release happen in due time. If you don't like it try an iphone that is basically the same as it was the day the first one was released.
  • Definitely hoping that it's announced today. Cause honestly, why wait until after dinner to have your GINGERBREAD cookies, when you can just have that amazing GINGERBREAD awesomeness now?! ...
  • I'm gonna hold out for Android BrusselsSprouts ;-)
  • Special announcement scheduled for 9:40am and also at 3:45pm on tuesday... Could they possibly announce it tomorrow??.... I really hope it's announced today at 2:35pm
