Best Buy Getting Verizon Droid As Early as October 24th ?
According to some leaked slides, it looks like Best Buy will receive the Verizon Droid on October 24th. As in this coming weekend. As in 4 days earlier than the planned Verizon Droid event. The price listed on the slides is $599.99 which is obviously off-contract pricing. Having the phone shipped to Best Buy on October 24th doesn't necessarily mean that it'll immediately be available to customers, in fact, it's downright silly to expect a phone as anticipated as the Droid to be made available before an official announcement.
And with Verizon taking the Droid so seriously, we wouldn't expect to be able to mosey down to our nearest Best Buy and snatch one off the shelves. As for enterprising Best Buy workers? Only time will tell. More pictures available at the link.

Then you are an idiot, who doesn't look at the price of his phone imho. $599 is a no contract price, I dare you to go take a look around at every other smart phone including your precious iPhone and let me know what the non-contract price is. I bet you'll be far more surprised then I will.

The phone carriers have us all bamboozled with the contract versus no-contract pricing. They dangle the "subsidized" contract price in front of us and we bite to save a few hundred dollars up front. They set the hook further with exclusive, locked phones and "special" (meaning extra) charges for upgrading your phone every year. But even the expensive non-contract smartphones equal only a few months of inflated phone charges. We would be better off avoiding these traps altogether.

so you're saying you'd rather buy an out of contract phone at the unsubsidized price, then what....sign up with a provider paying the same rate the rest of us are? i never understood why people hate contracts. verizon gives you 30 days to decide if the network works for you (i don't know if others do the same, i've had verizon forever and don't see myself changing anytime soon) then again, i have my ways of changing phones pretty much whenever and still getting the 2yr contract price...but that's the only downside i can see is wanting a new phone but having to wait to get the discounted price...
