Sony Xperia ZL

Sony is set to bring Android 4.4 (KitKat) to consumers this coming May, according to the Sony website. Those who own older Xperia Z products will be updated to the later version of the operating system. This covers the Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and the Xperia Tablet Z. We previously looked at the company's plans to bring Android 4.3 and 4.4 to its portfolio of Android hardware, which revealed a mid-Q2 launch for KitKat on older Xperia Z-series devices.

Unfortunately, no firm date within the next month has been provided and we'll just have to wait until May hits before we can begin searching for these promised upgrades. We'll let you all know when 4.4 hits older Xperia Z hardware as soon as we know ourselves. Not long to go now, folks.

Sony to roll out Android 4.4 to Xperia Z hardware in May

So they say. The Xperia z on T-Mobile will take even longer. I gave up on them. I really liked the z1s but with no kitkat it was a bust. My wife still has her z but she doesn't care about updates. I went back to my Note 2 that's rooted and recently just switched to a NEXUS 5. Hopefully things will change for Sony.

Totally agree with this sentiment. The feeling of frustration with Sony is unprecedented, so unprecendented that I gave the Z1 and even the upcoming Z2 a miss. Why buy from a manufacturer which takes sooooooo long to update its flagship devices? Get a Nexus 5! But if even Google stops updating its own phones, then it is time to look for a truly OPEN hardware/software mobile phone.

Got my update today. Just this morning. I got my xperia z1 in January. New emoticons for texting but don't show up on other Sony devices without 4.4 so that's annoying. But looks pretty smooth

I'm keeping my Tablet Z on Jelly Bean regardless of the update. Not trying to have the on screen buttons move to the middle like the phone UI.
