More than 15,000 HTC Vive units reportedly sold in less than 10 minutes

How hot is the HTC Vive? According to HTC's Shen Ye (yes, the brains behind our Futurology series) tweeted Monday that more than 15,000 units of the virtual reality system were sold in less than 10 minutes on Day 1 of preorders. That's in the neighborhood of 25 Vives sold every second.

And if you've gotten to go through a Vive Demo — it blew Russell's mind, and Phil's, too — you understand the excitement. It's simply the most immersive VR experience you can get.

The only bad news here? If you shelled out $799 (or more, outside the U.S.) for a Vive, you still have to wait until April for delivery.

  • Wow, never would have thought it would go over so well. VR isn't for me but it looks like plenty of people must be excited for it.

  • Wow! And I thought the Note 4's Gear VR Innovator Edition was expensive at $200.00 when it came out. I'll have to look this up and what it is all about.
  • Vive has integral screen. Gear uses your Galaxy, i.e. you must buy a $700 phone to use. Apples and oranges, my friend Posted via the Android Central App
  • More like apples and a tree of pineapples as for the vive you spend that 799+ another few thousand for the system. That's a lot more than 700+200(though you can find an S6 for a lot less than 700 now). Posted via the Android Central App
  • An appropriate system isn't a few thousand dollars. I haven't priced it out recently, but I'm pretty sure you could swing it under a grand if you were smart.
  • I paid $64 in taxes on top of the price so it was almost $900 for me.
  • I'm very happy for HTC. Hope they do even better in the future. Posted via the ONE M9
  • That's actually pretty awesome, especially when you consider that the Vive costs $799, AND that you need a capable gaming PC in order to get a good experience.
  • I'm planning on running this puppy on my Commodore VIC-20. I ordered some blank cassettes from Amazon for the "drive" and they should all arrive about the same time. Posted via the Android Central App

  • I guess I'll be the Negative Nancy- I wonder how many they sold in the next 10 min. Or even 10 hours. Point being that if this doesn't have legs, doesn't matter how many they sold in the first 10 min. Posted via the Android Central App
