Michael Fisher, aka MrMobile, reviews the OnePlus 3

When I first laid eyes on a photo of the OnePlus 3, I was let down. I didn't like its generic design, its snap-on cases that seemed like afterthoughts, or its higher-than-ever price tag. But then a review unit landed on my doorstep, and I got to use the OnePlus 3 for nine days. While my feelings on its derivative design haven't changed, I still consider this to be one of the best phones you can buy for $399. Also, it's a worthy custodian of a brand name that, as Andrew wrote in Android Central's full review, seems to have finally grown up.

Check out my OnePlus 3 review — my first as MrMobile — above. If you enjoy it, be sure to subscribe at all the links below for much more mobile tech coverage from the final frontier!

  • Dayumm. We been waiting for this.
  • Great review!
  • Find me a tech reviewer out there with a better delivery than Michael Fisher
  • I'll reply, you won't find one. Mobile Nations did good, real good
  • Sorry but there is one. He happens to be retired at the game and now fishers boss. Posted via the Android Central App
  • .... Not to take away anything from fisher. I too have been waiting for his work since he left captain 2phones world. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Out of curiosity, who is that? I'd like to check out some of his old stuff.
  • Agreed, that is certainly how to do a review!
  • ^^ Nothing, i repeat nothing even comes close to Anandtech.
As good as other websites are, there is nothing as good as AT's deep dive reviews.
  • For me though, I care more about real world performance and "narrative" so to speak about a device. Michael does a great job of telling the story about a device, and for me, cell phones are a very personal piece of technology.
  • So excited to see Michael Fisher back. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Isn't he from pocketnow? Posted via the Android Central App
  • He moved from there to Mobile Nations.
  • Michael Fisher on Android Central oooooooooooooooooo man Can't you just be Michael Fisher tho? The Mr. Mobile thing is kinda lame :S
  • Nah, he gets to be himself by being Mr. Mobile. All around win.
  • It really doesn't matter or effect anything, his name is just so well known I'm surprised he wants an alias.
  • Mr Mobile is not just his alias; it allows him to review more than just android phones, iPhones, or wearables. Instead of being under Android Central, imore, or crackberry, he answers to mobile nations as his own sub-entity. It's so there's not an equivalent to "Tesla Central" called "Michael Fisher" Posted via the Android Central App
  • Yeah I also asked if HTC designed the 1+3. Then I remembered that OnePlus is a Chinese brand and everything was explained. As for the phone itself, it's as boring and generic as it gets. The camera is terrible, the lack of microSD expansion unacceptable and the size way too big. It may have 6GB of RAM but I'd rather it had 3GB, microSD, a good design like the OnePlus X and a great camera than 6GB of RAM for the sake of showing off on paper. Anyway, it's good to have you back, Michael. On to the next one! (By the way... If you don't mind...I'll keep calling you Michael instead of Mr. Mobile. Or as you Americans incorrectly pronounce it, Mr. Mob'le ;P) Posted via the Android Central App
  • You forgot that it doesn't fully utilize the 6gb Ayyyyy lmao
  • I didn't write "for the sake of showing off on paper" for nothing ;P Posted via the Android Central App
  • If I receive a free phone I would feel bad saying something bad about it. All other people that paid $400 for it have complains about memory management, camera and display quality. Seems that they sent a bunch of bribes (oops, I ment free phones) to a bunch of people to have some nice reviews at the time of launch.
  • I don't know... The camera seems alright, especially for the price. Even JCB remarked that it shames the XPERIA X, which, let's be honest, doesn't even have a remarkable camera.
  • Yes he's back! Glad to see you back on the web Fisher! Posted via Techmology
  • The king of tech storytelling is back!
  • Ok reviewer Still better than spec reader MKBHD Posted via the Android Central App
  • I think they both have pros, I enjoy watching both of their reviews.
  • No need to compare. Both are great reviewers. One picture at a time--LG V10
  • I've been thinking about getting a Nexus in the fall. I've taken the past couple of years off but for the price tag, this is very tempting. The only thing holding me back is the processor. Rumours say the new Nexus devices will ship with something new from Qualcomm. I'll stick with my G5 for now. Still, I want this phone. Posted via my LG G5
  • Qualcomm seems to release processors at the beginning of the year. So Nexus and other phones released at the end of the year have the shortest life before a new processor is released. I think.
  • The Nexus 5 was one of the first phones to get the Snapdragon 800 and the Nexus 6 was one of the first phones to get the Snapdragon 805. The Nexus 6p got the Snapdragon 810 because it was the best available processor at the time. The new Nexus phones will probably get the Snapdragon 821 or 823.
  • It might be the SD823 which is, from what I've heard, a higher clocked version of SD820.
  • Guess my summer will be quite busy watching more videos from the likes of Fisher and others like JCB.
  • +1. Great review. Posted via my LG G5
  • Yes I like JCB too.
  • I dig his phone camera reviews. Really in-depth and gives you a good idea on how the camera performs.
  • The Return of the King. Happy to hear your dulcet tones reviewing wonderful devices once again!
  • Michael Fisher is just beautiful. His reviews and videos are always flawless. Happy he's jumped on board to Mobile Nations! Can't wait for more from Mr Mobile. He, Lisa from MobileTechReview and Detroitborg are the best imo #TeamFrosty Nexus 6P
  • Welcome back Michael Fisher. Your reviews are the best and have been missed. I'm glad to see you on mobile nations. Posted via the Android Central App
  • He sounds like Tony Stark.
  • If he was chocolate, he'd eat himself.
  • great voice, and he looks like TS too ... already has so much equity build into his name, not sure why he'd choose an alias. Either way, still great at what he does, and brings so much more than the average generic review. Definitely looking forward to more of these little gems.
  • Nice job Mr. Mobile! OP3 had made some great gains! Almost makes me want to buy one...almost.
  • Great....that narcissistic clown is going to ruin here now as well?
  • Please explain. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Rude, much? Just because YOU may not like someone's style or delivery, doesn't mean you insult them. If you can do better, go ahead. Otherwise, take a seat, and keep it. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Who died and put you in charge?
  • I disagree with him but he IS entitled to his opinion. Besides, I think Mr. Fisher has thick enough skin for the comments section.
  • That's not an opinion, that's being rude. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Well yes his chosen form of expression was rude; I just meant disliking Michael Fisher is a preference/opinion. When it comes to decency, maturity and articulation in comment sections, I hold the bar pretty low these days.
  • Good point, agreed. Posted via the Android Central App
  • It's good to see Michael back. He was the reason I used to tune into the weekly Pocketnow podcast He's definitely one of the best out there. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I'd laugh so hard if they brought Jaime over too.
  • I guess I happen to be in the minority but I prefer written reviews - if I wanted to watch video reviews I'd peruse the thousands of reviews available on YouTube. Sigh - technology overtakes yet another medium.
  • I'd typically agree, as I prefer written articles to video reviews, but there are always exceptions, and Stark is mine. Such a great voice and his video reviews are second to none. My only issue with them is when they're over, I wish they'd last an hour longer!!
  • I too prefer written reviews more than the video ones. Except when the video reviewer is Mr.Fisher.
  • I haven't seen it mentioned about swiping up from the home screen to access Google search/Google now. Works well too. Posted via the Android Central App
  • The transcript is literary art! Beautiful review.
  • Michael, you're setting that review bar pretty darn high. How do you expect anyone else in the tech world to keep up? Posted via the Android Central App
  • Michael is this your first review on AC? Great to see this--your video reviews are the best
  • SO psyched to watch Michael Fisher reviews again. Equally cool he is in Boston (my backyard essentially). I had not followed any press on the OnePlus 3 so this is my first in-depth look at it. Have to say I'm impressed. Has their customer service improved? I heard rather negative things about it. Next question: Can you only buy direct from the OEM or does Amazon or, gasp, a carrier store carry it? I'm assuming it is unlocked by design so I'm guess no carriers will have it. Oh and great price.
  • I think, in US, you can only buy directly from OnePlus.
  • Had to watch to figure what the hype was.....as soon as I heard his voice, it all came back to me. Very cool! Enjoyed the previous reviews, and now on the good team....lol.
  • Hey Todd since you are using this on T-Mobile, like I am, can you comment on whether HD Voice works and sound good on the Plus 3? My Nexus 6 sounds so fantastic, better than any other phone that I've used, thanks to the HD Voice and I'd hate to lose that feature if I upgrade. My friends Nexus 5x and Samsung S5 while it sounds good on T-Mobile is a lot less clearer in the upper frequency spectrum of voice.
  • The best non video reviewer was JR Raphael but he just quit doing reviews. Posted via the Android Central App
  • So I guess u changed your name. I liked the Captain 2 Phones moniker better but nice to see u back either way. My favorite reviewer hands down. Posted via the Android Central App on my Nexus 6P
  • Michael, I meant the question on HD Voice to you three posts above. Any insight would appreciated.
  • I like its generic design, I think the apperance of OnePlus 3 is always nice....
