The first 'T-Mobile Tuesday' giveaway had issues with too much demand

The first "T-Mobile Tuesday" for the carrier's free giveaway offer was hit with way too much demand from customers, with many people unable to get their promised free gifts.

T-Mobile announced the new weekly giveaway program, which offers things like free food, movie tickets and more, on Monday as part of its Un-carrier 11 plans. Some people who downloaded the T-Mobile Tuesdays app reported on Twitter they were unable to access the free giveaway, and some customers were unable to download the app at all.

However, T-Mobile apparently feels their customer's pain and stated they plan to "make this right asap" in a Twitter message:

  • I got the free stock but couldn't get anything else. They still did a good thing and at least their fixing it. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I had trouble with it at first. I called Customer Care. They said that they had such an overwhelming demand that it completely overloaded their servers. The issue was fixed about 30 minutes after I called them and I was able to redeem the Frosty, the pizza and the movie ticket.
  • I got it all, way cool. Nexus 6P
  • Didn't work for me. Posted thru my HTC 10 or S7 Edge
  • Just tried it again and ordered my free pizza just like that easy as pie. Posted thru my HTC 10 or S7 Edge
  • Haha, pie. AC app via Nexus 6
  • Could not get in. I figure I'll try again before bed.
  • Nope app wouldn't open. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Won't allow me to get the stock.
  • Worked in NorCal. My stock is processing. Got a code for Domino's... Need to be in line at Wendy's to get a free frosty (they give you 2min to redeem)! Not interested too much in Warcraft or the VUDU credit. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I got tired of trying and uninstalled the app...
  • Luckily I redeem , Pizza and Movie early morning (7am) , took Screenshot and I'm about to get both right now
  • Couldn't get it when I was actually at Domino's. Working fine at home though. Sigh. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I ordered it online. The coupon automatically applied to the order and my amount due shows $0.00 Posted thru my HTC 10 or S7 Edge
  • Oh you couldn't get a Warcraft ticket...that's a gift in and of itself! Posted via the Android Central App
  • LOL Posted via my Nexus 6P
  • Thanking should be with network coverage, not gimmicks like this. This is a case in point they're out of real ideas and why you never see network leaders like Verizon and AT&T doing this!
  • No pizza for you. LOL Posted thru my HTC 10 or S7 Edge
  • Haha great Seinfeld reference! Crap, what am I gonna have for dinner now? ;)
  • You can have your Pizza, I will take my $25 monthly bill with Fi and buy a Pizza with my own money yet still come out ahead in $$s
  • If you use as much data as some people actually use (not what is counted against your data limit), Fi would actually cost more than the average person on T Mobile. I have used over 22GB of data in a month at one point in time and counted for about 4.5GB. While T-Mobile didn't pay me back for the unused data, they credited the data to my high speed data amount. I pay about $40/line but on Fi that would have cost me $240+ ($20/Fi Basic plus 22GB @ $10/GB. Fi is great for you if you are in areas with lots of Wi-Fi spots to piggyback on or don't consume a lot of data. BTW I have both: Fi for my work phone number and T-Mo for personal phone.
  • I use net talk connect it's on tmobile. They charge 25$ for first 7 months then 40$ you get all the tmobile binge perks 10gig lte data unlimited talk text data roll over 20 gig stash.
  • Yea, cause at&t isn't prepping to launch their own rewards program or anything Posted via the Android Central App
  • ATT actually have launched a similar program not a week back. Its called the ATT Thanks promotion or something...
  • Whats wrong with this reward program its not bad no other company does this is because they are selfish and put prices higher on their customers and give them phones full of bloatware Posted from my Moto X 2nd gen and my Nexus 9 both on Android Marshmallow
  • I think someone is just grumpy that they're carrier didn't feed them pizza. My coverage is great in Idaho with T-Mobile. Sure I can't sit and text someone or stream a while I'm camping... BUT I'M CAMPING! I do get coverage along most highways which is just fine by me.
  • I make my own pizza and currently pay 0$ a month for my ring plus service. Sure I only get 1.5GB of data a month but the only time I don't have WiFi is while driving. The stock would be cool though.
  • Okay, just ballpark for me. How much time do you think the development of this program took away from the network engineering teams? Do you think anyone who is capable of working on tower deployment or upgrades was involved with this promotion? Posted via the Android Central App
  • The answer to that would be none. This is a marketing department thing, not network engineering. The maximum amount of input the network guys might have had was "hey, do you think this is a cool idea?" "yeah".
  • Who says they don't want more coverage? Spectrum must be available and T-Mobile will have to out bid the gigantic companies like Verizon. The FCC has a huge spectrum auction coming soon, so let's all hope T-Mobile doesn't get skunked by VZW and ATT.
  • Not that AT&T or Verizon haven't copied much of what T-Mobile has done over the last couple of years. :) Upgrade programs, no contract options, paying ETFs. But as far as network coverage, compared to 2 years ago the network is incredibly improved. I travel all over the US and had nothing but coverage issues for ages. When I was in the northeast, Florida, California coverage was great. Elsewhere not so much.
Today, coverage is significantly improved. Did a road trip across country just a few weeks ago and had LTE almost the whole way across.
They've even gone so far to provide verified data on their coverage map to show how devices are connecting.
According to their websites - Verizon covers approximately 312 million people in the US with LTE. AT&T covers approximately 317 million. T-Mobile now covers 308 milllion.
So the networks are closer together than not. The big difference is the amount of low band spectrum T-Mobile has to work with compared to Verizon and AT&T. Depending on how they do in the 600 Mhz auction, that could change dramatically. Time will tell on that.
  • the deal with tmo is it works were it works. and were it works its pretty good. They arent interested in little towns 20 miles outside big cities. there isnt much to be made. they are trying to attract customers from other carries in said cities. the poor network coverage argument is dry now.
  • I just came from there, it's working now Posted via the Android Central App
  • People want free stuff. Story at 11. Posted via the Android Central App
  • It's genius. No, this didn't work smoothly, but they apologized. Plus, which other carrier is doing anything like this? T-Mobile is marketing like a master. How amazingly clever. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Signed on at 5 this morning and everything was fine then when I got off from work all the gifts were gone. Good idea though. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I didn't win anything. :( Posted via the Android Central App
  • It didnt work for several hours in the middle of the day. I assumed the app was slammed with requests and was overwhelmed. I checked it about an hour ago and everything was working. Got all the freebies and my stock. #GetThanked Posted via the Android Central App
  • I got the stock this morning and now I got 2 free pizzas from Domino's Pizza. (My account and wife's account). The guy handed me the pizza and was overwhelmed. I walked in on him saying "What we're they thinking when they did this?". I guess since it only went up late the demand was high tonight. Cool promo though Posted via the Android Central App
  • I got my stock early this morning but when I got out of work, the app was a frozen piece of poo so I couldn't redeem my Domino's pie... :( Posted via the Android Central App
  • It worked for me later in the day, post 4pm local time. I got 2 pizzas. I tried to claim the stock, but it stalled, will try again later. Haven't tried to claim the movie ticket or the frosty. Posted via the Android Central App
  • What did tmobile expect if you have 10's of millions of customers and you are giving them free pizza. Tmobile is able to do this because they are making alot more profit off each customer esp saving in data bandwidth.
  • Got my free pizza and frosty Posted via the Android Central App
  • Eating my free pizza right now watching MLB at bat :) life is good with t-mobile. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Update I received stuff! Posted via the Android Central App
  • Wow and I thought the one - had nothing but gimmicks Posted via the Android Central App
  • When I go to the USA t T-Mobile is my carrier Posted from my Moto X 2nd gen and my Nexus 9 both on Android Marshmallow
  • Everything worked for me in the morning around 7AM EDT. I just made sure to get all the offers I wanted then went out of the app to redeem everything later. Went back into the app around 3PM EDT and couldn't get my codes. Finally got in around 6:30PM and quickly got a screenshot of all the codes so I could redeem them. A bit annoying, but you can't really complain about free.
  • Worked fine for me. Posted via the Android Central App
  • worked good for me.... got stock, pizza and war craft ticket which I probably won't use... didn't worry about the Wendy's ice cream or vudu code.... wouldn't use either of them. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I got set up this morning, but ran out of time. Couldn't get back in all day. I was finally able to order a pizza when I got home from work around 6. YUM!
I still have not been able to finish redeeming the stock. I'll try again tomorrow. Thank YOU T- Mobile!
  • Free pizza and movie ticket! Posted via the Android Central App
  • I'm eating my free pizza and watching my free movie as I type. Shout out to T-Mobile. Best carrier in the US. S7 edge/AC app
  • How do I get the stock though? S7 edge/AC app
  • I got my stock, my Wendy's frosty, and a ticket for Warcraft this weekend ☺. But I did everything around 730 this morning. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I didn't win anything. Must be cuz I'm late on my payment. Posted via Samsung's beast S7
  • It works again. They fixed it. Posted via the Android Central App
  • With 4 lines on my household of a total of 7 lines under my family account I managed to get my Stock, 4 Vudu movies (it really is a $5.50 x 4 =$22) that I can use to rent 4 Just Released movies or rent a UHD movie with my Roku 4 that otherwise I will never pay that huge amount of money just to rent a movie, or even buy an HDX movie and still have some credit to rent a cheap movie. Also, 2 pizzas for today and 2 for tomorrow, I claimed the Frosty offers but I really doubt that I'll use those, and I got 4 free movie tickets that sadly won't be able to use because Fandango doesn't like Puerto Rico customers and our US currency. Like it was mentioned above with things like this free MLB.TV year subscription and the great offer I have (7 lines with unlimited national calls and messages and long distance to Canada and Mexico, 10GB with data stash per line, for $180/month plus taxes) and the Free video and music streaming, All the other carriers should bow before the only carrier really making a difference and doing justice to loyal customers, and shaking the market I'm general. People here complaining or talking s**t about Tmobile are obviously b*tt hurt that their carriers simply don't care about them and just care about getting money for their overpriced plans. Give credit where credit is due. Bravo Tmobile, keep doing what you are doing, and deploying your band 12 across the nation and you will soon be moving closer to the top of the carrier list.
  • Did you redeem 4 different codes in the same Vudu account? Posted via the Android Central App
  • Watch it on redeeming some items, as like the Wendy's one, you have 2 mins to redeem it, so best to redeem it only when at the store.
  • Yes, $22 in credit to my account, already rented 3 new movies and still have $4.02 credit on my Vudu account to rent another cheap or not "just released" movie.
  • Very nice. Looks like I'll be doing the same. Thanks! Posted via the Android Central App
  • Well correction, redeeming a 2nd code didn't work. Said I reached max redemptions. Terms and conditions say 1 per account per week. Posted via the Android Central App
  • My friend just told me the same, but in her case it just says invalid code when trying to redeem it on the Vudu website, I guess I was lucky enough to do it early this morning (5:45AM EST) and applied one by one to my Vudu account, it seems they just realized that this wasnt good for them and modified it after that.
  • I was able to get my free pizza from domino's.. Thanks T-Mobile #getthanked Posted via the Android Central App
  • I remember i was switching carriers during the weekend of black Friday and i was on the line for almost 2 hours and when I finally reached someone to make an account, i was hung up on. And no, the line didn't drop, they hung up and this happened twice. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Got my stock, free pizza, frosty, and won a free ticket to WoW... Today was a good day. Posted via GWaLL's s6 edge
  • Got my pizza. Got my stock. Watching the Revenant tonight with Frosty in hand.
  • The service is back to normal, since 8PM Central, but it's too late to redeem the offers since most of them expire today or 6/8 at 4:59 EST Posted via the Android Central App
  • Yep got my free ticket and movie Posted via the Android Central App
  • I will be seeing Warcraft twice this week! And getting a free pizza tomorrow night and I also have stock in T-Mobile! Posted via the Android Central App
  • Since I work overnight, I downloaded the app yesterday and watched as the countdown took place so I was already up and running when it was working. I tried today and noticed the issues with loading and I thought it was just me until I read about the overload. That made me feel better when T-Mobile not only apologized but fixed the app pretty quickly in retrospect. I fired it back up, signed up to claim my stock (not as scary as I thought) and all is well!
  • I got a text around 5pm letting me know that the problem was fixed. Now that's good customer service. Thank you T-Mobile. Posted via the Android Central App
  • So far everyone I know got the Warcraft ticket..I guess we are leasing one theater on Friday night Posted via the Android Central App
  • But it's fixed.... Posted via my Galaxy Note Edge
  • I was finally able to. They also sent a text informing me that things had been fixed
  • Welp I just got my free medium pizza ^^ #TeamFrosty Nexus 6P
  • Got my Dominos and vudu credit!
  • T-Mobile giveaway promotion: "Yay, free stock, movie rentals, and pizza!" Sprint promotion of any kind: "OMG they're so desperate. They should be putting that money into their network! " Posted via the Android Central App
  • No, tried around 7pm and it didn't work. Couldn't view the gift nor click on redeem Posted via the Android Central App running on my Galaxy S7
  • Got my stock, preordered pizza for tomorrow, will use buds as well. Will be out of town so can't use wow ticket. Bummer. Wish the expiration date was longer. Oh and I don't like the frosty
  • I'm in Vegas. The pizza worked. Standing in line at Wendy's , I tried to get the Frosty, but it wouldnt show a Crew Code. I just watched the 2 minute timer count down to zero. I called 611 and after 20 minutes, they gave up. They are applying a $5 credit to my account. Bummed, I wanted the Frosty. The manager at Wendys was very cool and gave me his 50% employee discount. Happy.
  • Now it seems to be working but can't use anything as they all expire 6/8 lol Posted via the Android Central App running on my Galaxy S7
  • I see what they did there.
I'm not saying they did it intentionally but, I'm seeing a few sites reporting on the "broken app".
Kind of makes you wonder if they were savy enough to know how much more buzz they would create with the glitches that happened than if it all went smooth.
Thanks T MO, the pizza was delish! Posted via the Android Central App
  • Tmobile just keeps on giving to there customers! Thank you for freebies! I would like to know what did Verzion give to there customers?..Nothing but a HIGH PHONE BILL and GRIEF!.. Posted via the Android Central App
  • We redeemed everything...
    Movie ticket
    VUDU Hard to beat free!
  • For T-Mobile to be as big as ATT and Verizon, their prices will have to go up and be competitive to them. They can't offer us the world for free. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Not necessarily. If T-Mobile is able to run on a lower profit margin they will not need to raise prices. Lower prices is working very well for T-Mobile. They are turning a profit and that is what it is all about. If adding in free stuff drives in more customers they will continue to do well. Posted via the Android Central App
  • I think that I got the stock but it takes up to two weeks to know. I also attempted to get a movie but there were issues, when I returned later, it told me that it was already redeemed! Posted via the Android Central App
  • Got the pizza, watched the movie, and became a boss... Lol Posted via the Android Central App
  • Yeah, I ended up not getting any free stuff because the app kept asking me to log in and enter my phone number and never let me redeem anything other than the stupid Warcraft movie ticket.
  • I got the pizza and use the VUDU credit to get a cheap movie. Hopefully next Tuesday will go a bit smoother than yesterday. Posted via the Android Central App
  • Very funny, here is the text message I received from T-Mobile and I am not even eligible because I am on $30/5 GB LTE/100 minutes plan
'Good news! T-Mobile Tuesdays is working properly now. THANK YOU for your patience. #GetThanked'
  • Yes, you are eligible. I'm on that plan. I got the free stuff, although I've no clue how to get the stock...
  • Open the app, go to ‘My Stuff’, select ‘T‑Mobile Stock’ and click ‘Redeem’.
You will be directed to our partner, LOYAL3, to setup your brokerage account and claim your stock.
You will have a choice to keep it or sell it (you will get the cash deposited on your bank account).
  • You are right.
I tried this morning and it sent me the code for confirmation.
I will check it next week if I get any freebies
  • Got two warcraft tix for 0 dollars Posted via the Android Central App
  • I installed the app the previous day. On Tuesday I opened the app, hit the 'PLAY NOW' button. I entered my mobile number then a 4-digit code I got by text. A pink circle started spinning and the app crashed.
I opened the app again, Instead of the’ PLAY NOW’ button I got YOU’VE ALREADY PLAYED.
Later Tuesday night (a little after 7pm), I opened the app and without doing anything I got free stuff.
I got a stock, a code for free Domino's pizza (gave the code to a friend), small frosty from Wendy's, free movie rental from Vudu, a free ride up to $15 from Lyft, and finally an offer for two Warcraft tickets. The Warcraft tickets are not available under 'My Stuff' any longer, maybe because I did not redeem them yesterday.
  • I got the pizza and the frosty. The pizza procedure was pretty smooth: if you have the Domino's app installed, the "redeem" intent will take you there, and the app handles the coupon code correctly. Wendy's was a little more funny. You have to wait to hit redeem until you're right there, and it will only stay on the screen for two minutes. The girl who served me ran away for a manager as soon as I showed it, muttering something about not wanting to get into trouble again. :)
  • App worked like a charm. Was able to redeem all offers but the Wendy's smoothie (not a big fan). Got the pizza, a free movie and tickets to Warcraft (I have a family plan with my wife and we were both able to redeem all our freebies without any glitch). Thanks TMO!! Not to mention I get awesome coverage here in Raleigh, NC while my work Verizon barely gives me any coverage at my office...funny
  • I redeemed the pizza and the frosty (both were tasty), and I saw the Warcraft ticket and the Vudu rental (didn't redeem them because I didn't have time to use them), but the stock hasn't showed up yet. For most of yesterday, the app was very glitchy and slow, but it improved later in the day. I'm of the mind that if somebody gives you free stuff, even if it doesn't quite work properly, you're still no worse off than you were before, so there's no reason to complain (unless the free stuff is half-starved bobcats or pipe bombs or herpes or something like that).
  • I was able to redeem pretty much every deal. I got my stock, I redeemed and used the free pizza, and got my coupon codes for the vudu rental and movie ticket.
  • can't redeem my pizza code, said i had till today, but domino's ain't having that. lol
  • Me either. Chatted with T-Mobile and they said it's a known problem but offered no resolution. Hard to complain about free but I don't I'll come back to the app Posted via the Android Central App
  • I got the stock on Tuesday, but had trouble with the app due to the traffic. I looked in on Wednesday, and the app said that the Pizza and Frosty were still available, but that the ticket had expired. I did not try to get either, though. Was already dinner-time.
  • Seems so funny. If I am willing to sponsor gifts to the giveaways of T-Mobile, how to? I am a little confused.
