turbotax

If you are like me and have been putting off filing your taxes for any number of reasons, TurboTax SnapTax is an application you will definitely want to check out. Taking all the information from your W-2 and entering it online can become a pain, especially if you have more then one source of income, but TurboTax has gone above and beyond this year, and made it extremely easy to file. Simply snap a picture of your W-2, give the application a few minutes to pull the needed fields from the image and auto-populate them into your tax forms.

From here you simply go through the information that it pulled and verify that the information is correct. Once you verify the accuracy of the information, you can pay directly through the app and then file your taxes. Within minutes you can file your Federal and State returns, and then sit back and wait for the money to be deposited in your account. While the application itself is a free download from the Android Market, filing will cost $14.99. Hit the break for a video walk through of the application (and yes, we are sorry they chose to film it on an iPhone)

If ur dumb enough not to write stuff off, than this is just for you.
don't get me wrong. I use TT. But I have to many expenses that this just doesn't help with

Nifty if you only have a W-2 to file. If you're a homeowner and pay property taxes or other stuff that's relevant, what are you supposed to do with that?

It states pretty plainly in the app description that this is for people who make less than 80k per year and don't have special write-offs or any other complicating factors.

What turbo tax really needs to do is let you take pictures of all of you tax documents (w-2, 1099's, etc) and have it fill everything out. Of course there would always be somethings like charitable donations that would need to be entered manually, but it could greatly reduce the work. It could also choose the version of Turbo tax based on the information you provide.

Amen to that. I can't use it, but that's why I have an accountant. But for lots of college kids our fresh grads this is great
