There had been rumors that the T-Mobile G1 wasn't going to be receiving the much anticipated Cupcake Update to Android. Thankfully, those reports proved to be false. In even better news, we're getting news that the Cupcake Update might actually show up at the end of January. As in the end of this month.

Supposedly, the update will be delivered through a series of OTA updates and determined through your region, not the date of purchase. Whichever way we have it, we want it. Hopefully T-Mobile and Google can stick to their target date and get it out by the end of this month because we're SO looking forward to an on-screen keyboard.

What about those of us that have an unlocked G1 and are running it on the AT&T network... Will we get the OTA updates or will there be a manual way of getting it

TBH I dont think they will make a manual download of the update just for the people who have unlocked the phone for use with other cell phone services.

D says:

THEY wont make one to be manually downloaded but someone will put it on the net so it can be downloaded just like they did with the other updates that have came and gone, now just come already!

Well as it stands, its a network thing so, more than likely no, you wont.

But there are x amount of sites, tech hack sites that can sorta give your the update manually, but I think you need ether a Linux cpu or a Mac cause windows appearantly doesn't have the software or is made to hack or do whatever with the G1. Given the G1's os is a Linux system.
