SwiftKey Cloud

SwiftKey Cloud goes official, now available on Google Play

A month after the first public beta launched, popular keyboard replacement SwiftKey has pushed its new cloud-based features out through Google Play with the public launch of version 4.2 of its app.

SwiftKey 4.2 introduces cloud synchronization for personalized predictions, allowing users to easily keep their dictionaries and typing styles in sync across multiple devices. The latest version of SwiftKey also allows "trending phrases" — for example, words associated with current events — to be updated remotely without requiring further app updates.

Logging into SwiftKey been simplified too, with the addition of Google+ sign-in.

To sweeten the deal, SwiftKey 4.2 is launching at a 50 percent discount, so if you buy it today you'll pay just half the standard price. (If you've already purchased SwiftKey, you'll get an app update with all the new features.)

If you're picking up SwiftKey 4.2 for the first time today, or you've been testing it over the past month, let us know how you're getting on down in the comments. To grab the new version of the app for yourself, hit the Google Play link up top.

Have always loved swift key

Is it much better than the Google keyboard? I have been using that and I find it has great gesture typing.

chronophilos says:

If you want good gesture typing, stick with the Google keyboard. If you want good predictions, then try SwiftKey.

Via the awesome AC app.

impulse101 says:

The gesture typing is way better in Swiftkey, not sure what you are talking about.

kamiller42 says:

Yes. SwiftKey Flow allows typing words out in one stroke... works best when trained. You can theme the keyboard. And, symbols are exposed on all available keys as alt-presses.

Jelmerrr says:

It's a pretty good keyboard if you're not used to typing a space after punctuation, because you'll end up with double spaces all over the place otherwise (there's no setting to turn off the behaviour).

impulse101 says:

Its 477 times better than the Google Keyboard in every regard.

Katipo says:

I would say 478 times better. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

M3wThr33 says:

I'm really curious to see how this works. The cloud support sounds useful.
For the most part, I've made the switch to Google Keyboard, because after a while it seems the SwiftKey predictions went to shit. Anybody know what I mean?

mwara244 says:

I use swiftkey, but it lags every time I open it on my GNex, takes like 5 seconds minimum to open, then another few seconds to work. I use speech to text a lot but have to correct 20% of the words because google voice can't understand 2 & 3 syllable words. I prefer voice but it really needs a lot of work. Voice to text will work better if you speak in a monotone voice and like a robot I have found

EeZeEpEe says:

Do you have the "Personalized recognition" turned on? I speak naturally and works pretty fine.

MarkSeven says:

You're right. Every once in a while Swiftkey forgets all my words and it has to start memorizing them from scratch again. It's really annoying. The tablet version wasn't all that great either, but it's the best thing we got so there's not much we can do about it. I'm using Google Keyboard on my tablet, but I don't like it either..

mdye says:

I've not noticed it getting worse, but I do like how the Google stock keyboard fits in a little better with Android overall, even with all the TouchWiz business. None of the SwiftKey themes quite fit in.

ryanparedez says:

This has not really happened to me. Sometime you might need to update/refresh the language pack. I've been using SK for quite a long time and could not imagine using any other keyboard.

I'd give it another try!

skyboxer says:

It did seem like the prediction engine took a hit when Flow was added, but it's better now. The trending phrases thing is something similar to what swype has been doing for a while now and is the way to go in my opinion.

EeZeEpEe says:

Tap typing has been just as good for me whether I'm going fast relying on autocorrect or looking for suggestions. But there are people who say they've felt a difference since they removed the "Typing modes". I've always been around 29% efficiency so I haven't gotten any worse or better.

miwaca says:

So now even my keyboard requires data. Great. Let the battery drain continue.

EeZeEpEe says:

It's only once a day by default and you can extend it to weekly. Also has the option for Wifi only syncing. It's not a battery drain by any means.

slpaige says:

I've been using the beta for awhile and haven't noticed any noticeable increase in battery drain. Of course that's just based on my own usage, so your mileage may vary.

BoB16731 says:

open mouth insert FOOT ... been using it since beta and have noticed NOT increase in battery drainage

TechZOnline says:

I don't like that this can prevent the phone from going to sleep... :/

Nor do I like letting them read my sent google mail. The only thing i can read is my texts (by choice).

EeZeEpEe says:

It's not like it'll be awake for an hour trying to sync. And it's totally optional for any of the personalizations. It only used Google+ login for the syncing.

Jaycemiskel says:

On the first beta mine was consistently keeping my phone awake for like 6 hours a day. I removed it. I'm trying it out again now and hopefully it's been fixed.

Does someone know which version would be better for note 2 (tablet vs phone)? Thanks!

Posted via Android Central App

Xopher says:

I had the phone version on my previous phone, and loaded it onto my Note 2 when I updated. I haven't tried the tablet version on it, but the phone version works just fine.

Posted via Android Central App

sacherjj#AC says:

Phone version would be fine on that. The tablet version has the option to split the keyboard, which doesn't make sense under 7" screens.

EeZeEpEe says:

Phone version has split when landscape which actually is helpful for 5-5.5 inch screen. But tablet has split with number pad in between.

geewhipped says:

I have this same question. Guess I'll have to buy both and find out.

chronophilos says:

The fact that they sell two different versions is still ridiculous.

Via the awesome AC app.

ryanparedez says:

They do this because the app is designed to be more compatible at a code and design level for devices with bigger screens versus phones.

Anyone else get stuck on "verifying" ?
I think it is because I have two step verification on.

Posted via Android Central App

swear0730 says:

I too am stuck verifying. I don't have two step verification on. My GUESS is that its because I still have swiftkey flow beta on the phone and it is using the same account. I don't want to uninstall beta until I make sure the new version works tho.

Rondo says:

I actually came here to see if others were having problems. Servers getting hammered this morning with authentication requests?

I am having trouble setting up the cloud sync this morning and found their website also down so I would also think their servers cannot handle the load this morning.

spielnicht says:

...yet they still insist on using the dreaded, horrid, obnoxious and [fill in the blank] Gingerbread keypress tones.

Oh yeah, Swype had the cloud syncing feature for the past 2 years. Thus, Swype is always FTW.

ansextra says:

I purchased the phone version quite a while ago and when I tried to install it on my Nexus 7 I got a warning that i needed the tablet version. Now I didn't get the warning with this version. Not sure if it's a fluke or not but maybe they're finally combining the versions more.

Posted via Android Central App

I'm disappointed that it doesn't save the data from the beta version? I figured it would because it's synced with Google, maybe someone can help me on that.

ansextra says:

I believe my data wa saved frim the beta but obviously can't be sure. Once you add your account it should all be in the cloud.

Posted via Android Central App

EeZeEpEe says:

I honestly can tell what if it synced with beta data or replaced it with my phone's Play Store version data. Would probably be more noticeable if I finally got the new Nexus 7 to sync and compare.

EeZeEpEe says:

*Can't tell. Sorry. This was typed on a computer keyboard. lol.

kicko says:

anyone having issues logging in to the cloud?

BoB16731 says:

yes i think they are having problems atm lol good to see its not just me

kicko says:

Good i just wanted ot check before i go OCD and start delteing and reinstalling things in a hasty fashion.

BoB16731 says:

Huge response to SwiftKey Cloud so far - apologies to anyone experiencing issues, we're making effort to handle the high demand.

eahinrichsen says:

Me, too. Good thing I didn't delete the beta.

EeZeEpEe says:

But the beta will expire so what's the point?

eahinrichsen says:

Oh, I just meant to tide me over till they fix this issue.

I just checked their bug submission site, and many people have reported the same. I'm sure they're on it.

Hosehead says:

still cannot connect... Popular app...LOL

fbrubbo says:

Could is not working. It keep saying I have connection issues. But everything else is working pretty well in my S3

mionky says:

Same here with my GS3. If you look on their support forum, a lot of people are having the same issue.

BuJ_14 says:

Too late just got Minuum

Posted via Android Central App

EeZeEpEe says:

Minuum was far slower for me to use. More corrections being made and more taps for words. The extra screen real estate wasn't worth the slowness.

Cloud works great for me, love this kb. One of my favorites. Note 2 and Note 10.1
