Jelly Bean

ZOMG ANOTHER STORY ABOUT JELLY BEAN!

So here's the deal: An ASUS VP dropped the following quote to TechRadar:

"ASUS is very close to Google, so once they have Android 5.0 I think there will be a high possibility that we will be the first wave to offer the Jelly Bean update."

Dunno if ASUS is any closer to Google than any of the other manufacturers, but it did get one of the first Ice Cream Sandwich updates out the door, so more power to it. But it's entirely possible that this VP also was just repeating what everyone else has been saying anyway -- that the next verison of Android will be Android 5.0, and that it'll be nicknamed "Jelly Bean."

But, wait! Jelly Bean's still not even official, and today The Verge says Key Lime Pie will follow up. No word on when, or -- more important -- what either JB or KLP will actually be.

An official announcement from Google, neither of these is not. But let's go ahead and start guessing what L will be, shall we? Licorice? That's obvious enough, no?

Someone said 'Android 5.0' and 'Jelly Bean' in the same sentence; Key Lime Pie now rumored to follow

Since tablet and phone platform is now unified I suspect the next version will be less significant of a change and may be 4.x instead of 5.0

The next verson will be out before most folks have ICS. Hell some phones are just now getting Gingerbread. The Developers and Carriers need to get there act togeather about updates.

Only way asus gets jb out the door first. Its with a nexus device. So let's start the rumor mill next nexus phone is you guessed the asus. Phone

I'm sick of hearing about Android 5.0 and now 6.0. Get ICS on existing devices before starting the hype machine about the next version(s). I've got an alleged Google Experience Device with the 4G LTE Xoom, and have yet to get ICS, despite it being released around 4 months ago. Google needs to get its act together.

You have a Motorola device which is no more "Google Experience" than any other tablet running honeycomb.

Most honeycomb tablets can handle ICS, and most will get it, but its not google that is dragging its feet.

You're utterly mistaken. The US Xoom is a Google Experience Device, and as such, all software comes from Google, not Motorola.

Utterly mistaken? Not really. Verizon has a big hand in the updates for the LTE Xoom. However, the WIFI Xoom is all Google, hence why my Xoom already has ICS.

I think you're utterly confused dwboston. The Wifi Xoom is a "Google Experience" device and the LTE Xoom is being held on Verizon's short leash.

@dwboston, I'm sorry, we didn't realize you were tired of hearing about android rumors. Come on everyone, let's get up and move to another website where we can engage in idle speculation and discussion with out disturbing dwboston. Heaven forbid he not read the articles that don't interest him, let alone take the time to write up a critical comment to tell everyone except those who matter (e.g. Motorola or Google) how sick he is.
YOU KNOW WHAT I'M SICK OF READING ABOUT? PEOPLE WHO ARE SICK OF READING ABOUT THINGS THEY DONT HAVE TO! GTFO!!!!

@Da808Dragon, I'm sorry, but dwboston is just voicing his opinion so get a grip captain ... if u don't like what he has to say, don't read his comments! I think its hilarious, and somewhat pathetic, that u took the time to write all that in response to someone else's rant. Oh what a world we live in. I for one happen to agree with dwboston .... but who really gives a shit either way. Get on with your life buddy, don't let stupid meaningless shit, like someone voicing his personal opinion, ruin your weekend.

What... wait... uh... I JUST WANT ICS!!! but hell, if I get jelly bean, or cookie crisp, or whatever before ICS, then... well, that's what I get!

Lost in all of this is what we are expecting in JB, let alone KLP.

After the re-merging of the tablet branch and the cell phone branch, where does the whole platform go from here?

Does it focus on becoming the universal wallet? Better security? Removing carrier control? More Carrier Control?

Everything is obvious in hind-sight, but what we gain two releases and two years down the road seems pretty nebulous at best to me.

Regardless of Jelly Bean or Lemon Bar/Mousse Cream Pie/Nutty Buddy... Apple & M$ & HP etc, etc, etc will ALL sue claiming some violation of a patent issued in 1971 that involves holding a phone to your head or some silliness like that. Mark it down.

Thank god I bought a nexus! By the time most get ics, we nexus users will be having our taste of jelly bean! :)

I wouldn't count on it. The SGSII is set to get ICS in 11 days. Looks like it is going to beat the Nexus S and 4G to ICS. So unless Google does a 180 and actually start's giving a shit about it's Nexus line you will be doing in a year the same thing us NS4G owners are doing right now, waiting.

I'm still holding out hope that the J version will be called "Jumbaco!"

Jumbaco! Jumbaco! Jumbaco!

My guess is Rice stick or cherry tree :D

But i dont get this... They almost just released ICS! They should wait and polish ICS to perfection and to build at least on 35% or 40$ of world wide android devices to move on.. this is just ridiculousness...

Soon it will be like this - 'Last month google announced new android platform 6.0(Puppy face), BUT THATS OLD NEWS! they just announced android 7.0(Apple pie)... Wait... wait... we have even more new news! they just announced new android 8.0(Clown fish) that is much better that previous versions! Ohh.. no...! that is 5 minute old news! We have got the latest info that Android 9.0(Lemon tree) is the next new thing! And will be availabe soon! '

:D OMG google are you high with numbers? Chrome is the same - stable 17, beta 18, dev 19.... OMG.. they release single or two stable releases on the big number and go on with new big number... I don't understand this obsession with big numbers google....

The "obsession" is simple for me - They are attempting to meet or exceed Apple's iOS version numbers.

Believe it or not, some people think that higher version numbers (even across different platforms) means that something is better.

What was that saying? Ah, yeah. "Don't hate the player, hate the game."

Jelly Bean, Key Lime Pie, Licorice (They're not going to do a Lemon thing right after Lime), Marzipan, Nougat, Orange Sherbet (too bad they can't do Oreo), Pumpkin Pie, Quiche (there are dessert quiches!), Red Velvet (or Rice Pudding), Sticky Roll, Tiramisu, Upside-down Cake (Just picture the android guy doing a handstand with the cake balancing on his feet!), Vanilla Pudding, Wedding Cake, Xanthan Gum (It's a thickening agent....not a lot of X desserts out there), Yogurt (It'll be long enough after Froyo people won't notice), Zebra cakes (licensed from Little Debbie) or Zingers (licensed from Hostess).

Doesn't Google own Motorola Mobility now? Why would Asus claim they're getting Android 5.0 first and even better question is why Google would give the next OS to an outside company than give it to something they own?

Key Lime Pie would need to be followed by Lemon Meringue Pie =P
tho I would prefer KLP myself if we're talkin real food ;)

Then I'd saaay...
Mousse perhaps?

I hope they switch it up and go a totally different direction for the OS names. Maybe the L name will be Liverwurst or maybe Limburger Cheese.

I've come to the conclusion that Google likes to f*** with us and get us all hype for new OS versions. I'm not gonna fall for that anymore. If I really want a new OS version, I'll patiently wait for a rooted release and flash a ROM with said OS version.
