Runkeeper

The folks at FitnessKeeper, Inc. have pushed out a big update to the popular RunKeeper app, bringing a holo-like interface and a slew of new social features to help make staying healthy more fun. The biggest of these is the new Friends tab, which ranks buddies gathered from your contacts and Facebook by the number of activities completed. You can find these buddies without leaving the app, and even give them a gentle poke if they seem to be slacking using Android's in-app messaging service.

the rest of the changes are pretty darn good as well. The new holo look with tabs and action bar navigation is a welcome sight, there's a new activities page to help keep track of what you've done and what's coming up, and there's now a bit more flexibility when you sign up for a new training plan.

To take advantage of these new features, you'll need to connect RunKeeper to your Facebook account. Since that often can be a security nightmare, there's plenty of information on how to do it safely at the source link. You can grab RunKeeper from the Google Play link above, and catch a few screenshots of the app after the break.

From the screenshots it seems that they've done a semi-holo redesign. List items and buttons still look pretty old-school. And this awful gradient on the "Start Activity" button... In an hour or so Roman Nurik, Nick Butcher and Adam Koch will be doing a design for a fitness/sports tracking app. Probably the guys from Runkeeper can watch it :)

Adding holo-tabs and actionbar does not make an app a Holo one.

this is the best running/walking/hiking app IMO.

It's between this and Runtastic for me, still undecided.

If you call it best i bet you dont try streetquest - run is a game.
Brand new app that my friends show me like week ago, lots of achievements and most of all really nice event oriented idea that for example give you possibility to paint streets with friends or collect stars etc.
Its like good old platforms game but force you to run around your town - with some friends this game is sic! ;)

It would be nice to see this compared to Runtastic and Endomondo.

Why the apostrophe in "gets"?

Got the new version before my run this morning. Biggest problem is the new save button. Too small to click with gloves on. I'm working on a review of Endomondo and Runkeeper.

Really AC? "Get's"? That's some Phandroid crap right there.
