You want it, now we know when, and how we can get it. Just announced at Google I/O, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will be arriving in mid-July.

First to get it -- not all that surprisingly -- will be the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Samsung Nexus S and the Motorola Xoom. The open-source code for Jelly Bean will also drop at the same time. Thats next month folks!

This is why I own a Galaxy Nexus. :-) Jelly Bean looks amazing, thats more than a minor update.

This is why I own a wifi Xoom... go go GED!

crxssi says:

Bingo!!

This is why the Xoom WiFi is the "Nexus Xoom"....

* 100% Stock Google Experience
* First ever real/official Android tablet
* First ever device with Honeycomb
* First in select group of Nexus devices with Ice Cream Sandwitch
* First in select group of Nexus devices with Jellybean, after the Nexus 7.

Go go go!!!

Don't forget Xoom's outside of the US are NOT GED devices and are still running 3.2 as Motorola are not pushing out 4.x...

Vladabeast says:

False. I Don't know where your getting your information from but ICS has rolled out to all XOOM all over the world. I have a XOOM wifi Latin America and I have received the ICS ota

VDub2174 says:

+1 for the wifi Xoom!!

sjhixon says:

What are the odds of this coming to the Verizon Gnex any time soon?

jkloeker says:

If you're lucky, you'll have it by the end of the year.

cowboys2000 says:

HA!!!

Seriously, since it is a Nexus device, it should get it soon. But, knowing the history of ICS upgrades (4.02 to 4.04) and delays, I'm not holding my breath.

Good thing I am rooted!!!!

superjamz says:

4.02-4.04 are Verizon updates to the Nexus' radios. The official Google build is still 4.02. 4.1 should be unaffected(hopefully) by Verizon

Shadowriver says:

4.0.3 is new API Level introducing new APIs, so it's not just radios

Dame95 says:

My thoughts EXACTLY - They say Gnex - but we all know that means the GSM one, as the VZ version is the re-headed stepchild...I will be shocked if this comes our way in July.

XavierMatt says:

I think we will get it in July.

Thats the question I wanted to ask but looks like the answer is probably not in July.

gene1138 says:

We know it's gonna take months to get JB to work with their apps. Then they need a month to strip out Google Wallet. ;)

mrbanks says:

cool.

ezrevo2010 says:

where is ics for rezound dammit!!!

Soon™

I love my VIPER ROM ICS!!! Maybe we'll get a Viper Rom Jelly Bean

hmmm says:

I assume you mean first to get it after the Nexus 7? I am really surprised the Nexus S is getting it.

nope. nexus 7 ships mid july as well

Mobius360 says:

I think it's pretty awesome the Nexus S Software is getting it. Just goes to show how Samsung probably decided the Galaxy S(1) line would have to stop getting OS updates a little sooner than it $hould have. Guess it's the bloatware / skinning the OS fault, but we all know it's not cause the hardware couldn't handle it.

jnemesh says:

Nope...the hardware handles it JUST fine! I just loaded Cyanogenmod 9 RC1 last night and it is SOLID on my 1st gen Galaxy S (Samsung Epic 4G)! Can't wait for the Cyanogenmod team to get started on Jelly Bean!

Orion78 says:

This is why I stated it's Nexus devices from now on. Loving my phone right now and can't wait for Jelly Bean.

cmdr430 says:

There should be no reason the vzw nexus does not get it in July as well. I think the 4.0.4 update took so long b/c of the bug fixes and new radios and what not. If this is just a software update it should roll out pretty easily/quickly. I hope...

Oh, I can think one reason why it would not get it in July... because Verizon.

zelendel says:

one of the main reason it takes so long is that not all the stuff on the CDMA version of the Nexus is open source. The dialer is closed source so it takes longer to make a dialer that works.

TaiwanTeddy says:

I don't know about you guys, but I much rather eat an ice cream sandwich over jelly beans any day.

sjhixon says:

That's true. Jelly Beans get stuck in my teeth. Maybe they should have went with Android 4.1:Juicebox.

VDub2174 says:

Or a Jubilee Roll.

willmays87 says:

thank god for rooting. dont have to wait a year to get an update. actually thank god for android period! lol

sgt50 says:

OH HELLLLLLLLLLLLL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ultravisitor says:

This is exactly why I got a Galaxy Nexus. I've had ICS for months, and I'll be getting Jelly Bean next month.

haha Rezound and RAZR owners. Maybe you guys will get Jelly Bean this fall.

schrack3000 says:

Me too. I believe when all 3 were coming out around the same time Jerry on the podcast said something to the effect of "If you are in the market for a new phone do not buy one without ICS because you have no idea when the one's without ICS will be updated."

A lot of people on this very site who were in the Razr and Rezound camps tried to convince those of us on the fence that the fact that the Nexus came with ICS didn't matter because HTC and Motorola had promised the Rezound and Razr would get ICS soon.

And here we are. December, January, February, March, April, May, and most of June. About 7 months I've been able to use ICS, and next month it'll be JB. Definitely feel like I made the right choice between the 3 phones.

Rob White says:

Sorry but this is stupid. Now you have 2 versions it there for the carriers to try & decide what to update with. Extreme fragmentation at is finest.

gtricecakes says:

Still love for the Xoom! Hellz yes! But that Nexus 7 is looking mighty fine. Might give my Xoom to my dad and buy the N7. Lol.

crxssi says:

I will buy a Nexus 7 for my Mom. But my Nexus Xoom is still staying WITH ME. Why would you want to give up a great 10" display for a small 7"!

moosc says:

jerry owes alex a beer or two.

when will the one x get this? :)

sly says:

The new features in 4.1 sounds great! But all I want from 4.1 is high-res contact photos synced to/from my Google account. And maybe an option for a dark theme in the GMail app. Yeah, I know, I'm *so* demanding...

From http://developer.android.com/about/versions/jelly-bean.html

"Higher-resolution contact photos

With Android 4.1, you can store contact photos that are as large as 720 x 720, making contacts even richer and more personal. Apps can store and retrieve contact photos at that size or use any other size needed. The maximum photo size supported on specific devices may vary, so apps should query the built-in contacts provider at run time to obtain the max size for the current device."

Nothing on dark theme !

cedpme says:

Still waiting for the ICS updated from Sprint for my SGS II Epic 4G Touch (shaking fist in the air)!!!!!!

crxssi says:

And the Evo 3D...

jnemesh says:

I believe they just released the EVO 3D ICS upgrade today...and Sprint is the last carrier to release an ICS upgrade for the SGS II...it MUST be coming very soon.

jojones44 says:

I'm still waiting for ICS to come to my skyrocket!!

sgt50 says:

Got tired of waiting for phone companies to decide when they wanted to release updates, so I bought a GNEX, now all I wait on is Google to release it, lot less headache and NO BLOATWARE added.............................

tabatt13 says:

This makes me so happy I have a Xoom and Galaxy Nexus. Only Nexus devices for me from now on.I can't waito add the Nexus 7 Tablet to my devices.

mgurmgur says:

+1

mud314 says:

So this is the reason that Verizon kept canceling my preorders for the S3, something more awesome is obviously around the corner. :) (though we all know that is always the case). Loving Jellybean already. And how about that tablet! Guess I finally have an answer to my much belated birthday present.

Premium1 says:

Well I am sure dev's will get this on the sgs3 shortly anyway so much better hardware+ jelly bean is a win win.

mgurmgur says:

This is awesome! Do you know what that means?! I will have JB on my VZW G-Nex by Thanksgiving 2012, latest!!

Sonicaholic says:

+Android just stated the Motorola Xoom, the galaxy Nexus (both of which I own) will receive Jelly Bean. They stated my Xoom would get ICS and I'm still waiting for the ota update! Being in the UK usually means we get ignored when it comes to updating so I'm not going to hold my breath as being let down on a regular basis breads scepticism.

Statusnone says:

Taking bets on when us new Galaxy S III owners from AT&T will see the update. My guess is just as speedy as Ics to the s2...

/sarcasm

Nimbus79 says:

Cyanogen Mod 10 announcement in 5....4.....3....2....1.....

VDub2174 says:

LOL

Rick9 says:

Wonder if the ATT Nexus S will get jelly bean....considering it still has yet to get ICS!

leaponover says:

Well, Google effed it... no addition of project Majel the ONLY thing that would get me excited about Jelly Bean. They dropped the ball and by the time Apple really makes Siri functional Google will be the ones playing catch up. They really messed up on this one :-(

MMcCraryNJ says:

I think you need to go back to the press conference and watch it again, and pay attention this time.

GTAFan9999 says:

Seriously? They haven't even released ICS to most of the current 2.3 phones.
