LG Thrive and LG Phoenix bring the Optimus One to AT&T

AT&T today announced two new Android smartphones that will represent affordable choices compared to some of their more recent high-end announcements.

Both phones are essentially versions of the LG Optimus One (see our full review), which we have said before is an excellent bang-for-your-buck device. They both sport a 3.2-inch touchscreen, 600MHz processor, Android 2.2 (Froyo), and a 3.2 MP camera.

The LG Thrive is AT&T's first prepaid smartphone and will cost $179.00 outright. A new prepaid data package was also announced, which is 500MB/$25. Consumers may also choose 100MB/$15 or 10MB/$5.

The LG Phoenix will be the same phone, but will be on-contract rather than prepaid. It will be available for $49.99 with a 2-year service agreement.

Both devices will be available nationwide on April 17th. If you've been craving a solid yet affordable smartphone, the Thrive or Phoenix are two very good options. [AT&T (opens in new tab)]

  • From the Sensation..... to the Optimus one. -_- Anyway. The first phone I think about when I see "3.2inch screen" is my Hero... the good old first experience days. *sigh*
  • It is a nice little phone, my parents have it on Sprint, and my cousin has it on T-Mobile, but I don't think I could recommend it for anything more expensive than "free." Well, maybe $20. Not that the phoe isn't worth it, but isn't the Inspire only $99? And I can't find it now, but wasn't the Atrix available for $99 too? For $50 more, after a two year deal, as good as the phone may be, it should be passed over for something a little bit more powerful. The prepaid one looks like a good deal though. One thing I don't like though is the buttons on this one. I think the buttons are great on the Optimus S, spaced well, sturdy, and look nice than on the Droid X. But LG tried getting a little too fancy with the T-Mo and AT&T versions.
  • 1/2 gb for 25????
  • Sprint offers from time to time the LG Optimus S for free with a 2 year contract.....They even had it at $20.00 at one time...
  • service is a rip off wife has the same phone on virgin mobile with unlimited text data and 300 min talk time for 25.00 a month.
  • I wonder what it'll take to unlock it.
  • a Google search for online unlocking services.
  • Today is April 17 & the LG Phoenix made it onto AT&T's website but the Thrive didn't. Wonder if AT&T changed their mind about putting it on GoPhone service?
