Update: In its G Suite Status Dashboard, Google has mentioned that it has rectified the issue and that Gmail and Drive should be back up again:

The problem with Google Drive should be resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support. Please rest assured that system reliability is a top priority at Google, and we are making continuous improvements to make our systems better.

Original story follows:

If you're unable to send emails in Gmail or upload files to Drive, you're not alone. Google seems to be experiencing an outage that is affecting several of its services, with the issue affecting customers across the U.S., Canada, Japan, Malaysia and Australia. According to Down Detector, Gmail and YouTube started seeing disruptions at 10PM ET on March 12.

The G Suite Status Dashboard notes that Gmail and Google Drive users are seeing a lot of "error messages, high latency, and/or other unexpected behavior."

Google has also acknowledged that its Cloud Engine is facing disruptions, and that the engineering team is working on a fix:

We are still seeing the increased error rate with Google App Engine Blobstore API. Our Engineering Team is investigating possible causes.Mitigation work is currently underway by our Engineering Team. We will provide another status update by Tuesday, 2019-03-12 20:45 US/Pacific with current details.

We'll let you know as soon as we have more information. Are you also affected by the outage? Let us know in the comments below.

  • I noticed it with Hangouts. Pics wouldn't send.
  • South west US gmail is working.
  • On another note, anyone try "faster voice typing" on Gboard? Goodness it is lightning fast.
  • How do you activate it?
  • I use Gboard as my keyboard, and I got a notification offering to download the package to enable it. Dunno how to trigger that tho.
  • Are you on the Gboard beta?
  • No--but apparently this is only for Pixels for now (I have OG Pixel).
  • I've noticed it all day with Google Keep notes. The app fails to launch, just hangs on a black screen for ages. Just to get to my notes, I've been having to reset my WiFi connection & clearing app data/cache. I thought it was just me. But, thank goodness I'm not the only one.
  • Photos keeps bombing out for me. Not syncing pics as well. Thought it was my phone lol.
  • Yeah, I can't download any attachments all the sudden...
  • Chicago area, everything seems to be working; Gmail, Youtube, Keep, Photos, Drive.....working on all 4 of my accounts.
  • I've been at my desk since 10 trying to figure out why I couldn't upload a video to youtube. I finally left at 12:30 hoping the 0% upload would magically complete by morning... Just got home and the second I walk in the door I see this article...
  • Yes. This might explain also why I am having an issue setting up my new S10+ and keep getting "android setup keeps stopping" error after entering my Google account info..... Will try again tomorrow when hopefully all fixed!
  • Seems to be affecting Google Street View too.
  • Hi,
Can you tell me the phone in the photo of this article ?
Is it the oneplus 6 ?
  • It's six days later. There are still (new) issues with GMail and Home. YouTube is giving me "try again" errors. Every time try using Hme Assistant to "Play another episode of Netflix I get "something went wrong". Almost every time I try to run a Routine, I need to repeat the command multiple times. Mail doesn't put Snoozed item under the Snoozed label/folder. Deleted Spam isn't deleted, selecting a message for viewing opens the wrong message. So much else is goofy that all I'm doing now is browsing.
