SwiftKey Flow

Swiftkey today unleashed a new version of its beta-only SwiftKey Flow keyboard. Corrections are easier, predictions are more prevalent -- and it's basically just more awesome.

Hit up the VIP forums to get your download on. We've got the full changelog after the break.

Download: Swiftkey Flow

  • Predictions (and Flow) now on in most places (exceptions: e-mail fields, passwords, anywhere where the app doesn't behave itself with SK, fields offering their own corrections on Android versions <= 2.2)
  • Easier corrections - just tap on the word and SwiftKey will offer you 3 possibilities
  • New languages: Thai, Vietnamese, Bosnian, Albanian, Javan, Sundanese (plus those added in 3.1)
  • Features from SwiftKey 3.1: Berry theme, split layout in landscape on phones, Armenian, Azerbaijani, Georgian, Hindi, Hinglish, Irish, Macedonian, Spanish (Latin America) and Tagalog
  • New layouts for Hindi and Russian
  • Ukrainian landscape layout fixed
  • Backspacing on to the final word of a multi word prediction (Flow through space) will now give better alternatives
  • Typing style now inferred rather than a setting
  • Long press delete accelerates after the first word

Bugs fixed:

  • Flowing off shift no longer triggers a change in shift state
  • Flow no longer gets stuck when you flow off the bottom of a page
  • Quick period working after single letter words
  • Arrow key repeats
  • Learning when sending messages or tabbing between fields with the enter key fixed
  • Azeri capital i behaviour corrected
  • Estonian will now predict words containing ö
  • Fixed force close on Beta predictions
  • Flow trace no longer left behind after flowing
  • Mounting an SD card will turn predictions off only if SwiftKey language packs are stored on that SD card
  • Keyclick sounds no longer doubled
  • Haptic duration made consistent with flow on and off

This got me excited, but left me confused. Their VIP section shows the last update as 4.0.0.62 from like three weeks ago?

YuSH412 says:

It is a different version even though it says it's not. The one change that I've requested before is that the Korean keyboard layout match the English version (i.e. the bottom row isn't shifted to the left side). That changed, which is a very noticeable change for me, so it must be a new version.

munnarg says:

The downloaded file says 4.0.0.75 no matter where I get it from.

edit...nevermind, it installs as 4.0.0.76.

You have to login. At that point it ought to offer you the updated file.

Or use the direct download link in the blog:

droidlover69 says:

this is just getting better and better

I love Swiftkey but the new Flow beta wasn't doing it for me. I went back to my Swiftkey 3. The flow doesn't seem to be nearly as fast and efficient as normal typing, and it seems to make much less use of Swiftkeys awesome predictions.
I will probably give Flow another shot after its full release.

turdbogls says:

just goes to show that everyone is different. i though the FLOW was pretty great. i find swyping a bit quicker, and i still could take advantages of the predictive texting with it.

Maybe I need more practice with the Flow. I will definitely give it another try when it is primetime.

EeZeEpEe says:

Or you can give this beta a try and see if it fixed what you didn't like.

rbess1965 says:

I mix it up which is what's great about this. In landscape I type, in portrait I flow or Talk out my messages. Depends on how many hands are free at the time:) Having all these options is what's so great about Android.

Agreed.

eahinrichsen says:

Why did you go back to SK3 rather than just keeping the Flow beta and touch typing like you do with SK3? Did you find that the beta decreases the efficiency of regular touch typing somehow?

Real666 says:

One question. Even though we've gotten the beta for free, when it actually comes out with the stable version will we have to pay for it or will we just get the update for free also?

EeZeEpEe says:

They've confirmed in the VIP forums it will be a free update to SwiftKey 3.

Real666 says:

Thanx

teletraan1 says:

So is this a completely different app? Not an update to SwiftKey 3? Can you still swipe-to-delete? (One of my fav features of SwiftKey)

deltatux says:

No, you can't swipe to delete. Here's a screenshot as to what happens when you enable Flow:

EeZeEpEe says:

At which point, long press delete deletes the words and holding it gets faster.

rbess1965 says:

Looks like when Flow is enabled, Gestures are not.

rbess1965 says:

Have it, love it. Best keyboard available. Hope EeAeEpEe is right about it being free to SwiftKey3 Pro users because I've already purchased that and definitely feel it should be a free upgrade to us. Guess I'll find out when the limited version expires on Feb 21.

kamiller42 says:

Can anyone tell me if they added a numerical row yet?

DWR_31 says:

Went back to Swype for a couple of days.
The new Flow Beta has now really impressed me.
Flow Beta is now just as smooth as Swype but it gives great predictions to. And it has themes.
Take that Swype.

tyson.clarke says:

It's beautiful! It also demonstrates just what a big deal a keyboard on a phone is.

Have some fun and nonchalantly flow around an apple die hard... They go nuts cause its pure awesome

I totally see and feel the improvements. Good work Swiftkey people.

Coach_Urk says:

I love SK Flow every since it came I out I've been glued to it. I've had two different phones since then and it works great on both of them. Crazy looking forward to the official release, but loving the beta while it's here!!!

truepopo says:

Can someone tell Me if it's possible to enable the arrow keys for the tablet version? They work on my note but not my nexus 7

Mrshades says:

Make sure you download the Tablet version for your N7. Two different SK apps. Phone and Tablet.

Peace.

wsmather says:

Sticking with Swype. It's personal dictionary seems to learn and retain better.

kymoon says:

I agree that SK Flow is not good about learning and adding words to its dictionary, unlike Swype.

insuo says:

It used to spell out "It's" as "Is" prior to the update, but now it's fixed. Yay!

icvos says:

I'm on 4.00.76 but still spells It's or it's as is. Argh! You can now flow in fields and search bar. Nice update. Wish they'd fix the [it's] bug.

Cubfan says:

I try it every time and it only takes an hour to go running back to Smart Keyboard Pro.

Telperion says:

Is the flow prediction any better? As of the last beta, Swype still was in another league of accuracy, Flow was fairly poor. Gave me the wrong word far more often when the same swipe in Swype was spot on accurate.

icvos says:

I think it does better than Swype now imo. Trying it is your only way to find out.
