Ten devices to get 4.3 from next month; five devices confirmed for KitKat upgrades

A week after the new OS version's announcement, Sony Mobile has revealed its upgrade plans for Android 4.4 KitKat, while committing to get the previous version, 4.3 Jelly Bean, onto some devices from next month.

Android 4.3 will arrive on the Xperia T, Xperia TX, Xperia V, Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia SP, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 "from next month." The T, TX and V will go straight from Android 4.1 to 4.3, Sony says, while the others will jump from the newer version 4.2.

As for KitKat, Sony isn't offering any timeframe, but says it will update the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 to Android 4.4. The manufacturer isn't confirming KitKat for any other devices at this stage, however it describes these five as the "first raft" of updates, suggesting others will follow.

Elsewhere, HTC is the only Android manufacturer to commit to any timeframes for 4.4 updates, saying it aims to get the new version of Android on unlocked HTC Ones within 30 days, and update U.S. carrier models within 90 days.

Sony confirms Android 4.3 and 4.4 update plans

even if Samsung announced anything; it doesn't mean shxt... I just traded in my Samsung GT2 10.1 with Amazon. I waited so long for the 4.2.2 update from 4.1 with high but reasonable hope (such as smoother performance, at least not as slow as before, no occasional crashes, etc)... Guess what? with the 4.2.2, it makes my Tab 2 10.1 even slower than before when browsing online (and sometimes it just force-closed my default Samsung browser). Twice the screen was frozen and not responsive to any touch won't reset or go away until I had to hard reset the tablet. Besides not being faster than previous 4.1, all the bad behaviors with the new 4.2.2 update are noticeable. I was so fed up and over the weekend, I did a master reset, erase all personal data and media files (I backed them up first of course), packed it with bubble wraps, printed label from Amazon, and said goodbye to the GT2 10.1 without missing it for one bit. With that money + I have a $50 Sony gift card coming (Sony credit card reward points) towards against my soon-to-be-in-my-hands Sony XTZ, there is no reason for me not to get it! :D

And HTC Google edition devices within 15 days, should be within next week.

Isnt supposed that kitkat allows to install 4.4 on almost all phones with 512MB ram? What about Xperia P?

How many Sony phones does it take to capture less than 1% of the Smartphone market? Lol.

All you Samsungers and HTCers are just jealous we get 4.3 and you don't. Go throw more money on useless spec phones so you get your 4.3 as well.

This year alone samsung has launched more than 39 android devices and htc 12 devices.
Can you tell me how many samsung and htc devices that will receives Android 4.3 or 4.4???

For comparison this year Sony launched 12 devices, ten of them is already received Android 4.2 only Xperia M single sim version and SP is still on Android 4.1

Starting next month Android 4.3 will be available for 11 Xperia devices (8 from this year and 3 from last year) and next at least 6 Xperia will receives Android 4.4

So even in the worst case scenario 75% (8) of Xperia 2013 will get 4.3 jelly bean update and 4.4 kitkat will be available for 50% (6) Xperia devices.

Sony maybe not the fastest when it comes to updates but they keep getting better each time, if you look at the big picture this year maybe Sony is even better than samsung because i doubt that samsung will make 4.3 or 4.4 available for all samsung devices.
But on the other hand every Sony 2013 products is very capable to get Adroid 4.4 without any problems.

Please don't show me any rumors or leaks just show me OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT from samsung and htc.

I was referring to models from 2012, but apparently Samsung recently announced an update for s3 as well. Still, what's wrong about Sony updating a part of their 2012 line?

Sony failed to bring the Z1 to the states so screw them and their plans. They are dead to me.
And why upgrade to 4.3 to only shortly after upgrade to 4.4?
That's dumb unless they don't actually plan to update to 4.4 anytime soon.

z1 is coming...just wait...the z didn't appear on tmo in the us until july, and it was released across the world in given that, z1 was released in october, tmo will get year

also, re: their update plans...i see where you're coming from, but i'd rather incrementally update than jump all at once, not to mention, why not update all of a family of phones at once, and then update certain ones again shortly after...why complain about getting updates?

So why do you bother reading about any Sony news? Or even bother posting in said news? Just guessing it is so you can make yourself feel better about your decision.

For those who don't know, Sony did bring the Z1 to the states. Just not the version this guy wanted apparently.

The Z1 looks awesome! I'm sorry you guys are always stuck with Samsung/HTC/LG/Moto every year. I'm not in a hurry to get 4.4 because frankly, Any android "improvement" that's been made since Sundar Pichai took over has well, sucked.

Let's sue Google then keep using their os and services. Should be kicked out of the handset alliance. Go let Sony use windows or ios since that is who they sided with and the Rockstar Consortium.

I have a note 2.
After the fiasco of region locking and the attitude of Samsung shown in their lush of Knox and e-fuses, I dropped the idea of upgrading to a note 3.
I ordered a Z Ultra earlier today.

Thanks, Sony for this news, it helped me realise that Samsung doesn't have to be the default choice.

And to Samsung:I am sure I am not the only customer you have lost.

Does anyone want to buy my n7105?

Finally some good news!

Xperia T (and TX probably as well) needs this update SO badly... Let's hope they're able to fix the infamous Wi-Fi problem :)

Fingers crossed! ;)

after that i updated my xperia tx to jelly bean 4.3,my device's battery empty in just one day i hate this update.i dont know what i should to do. i dont want downgrade my device
