Android Market redesign

If you really want to get into the nuts and bolts of the Android Market's redesign -- coming soon to a smartphone near you -- check out Kirill Grouchnikov's "Pushing Pixels" blog. In today's post, the Android user interface engineer talks about the redesign, why things look the way they do -- and how it was done.

And of particular interest is the transition and design of the Android Market when viewed in landscape (horizontal) mode. We're not too proud to say that we didn't even notice at first, because we didn't bother to try the new market in landscape -- the old market was, shall we say, severely lacking in that respect.

Anyhoo, check out Kirill's blog if you want to see the ins and outs of the whole thing. [Pushing Pixels]

Hopefully this means that Google will address how the Gmail App looks in landscape soon. It's almost unusable since the top and bottom menu bars are constantly being shown. My useable screen area is so small it's a pain to read emails. This combined with not being able to zoom in or out in the Gmail app make it quite frustrating to use!

No. I have an EVO and have the same problem. You can barely see more than one email at a time. Quite like the current market only showing barely 2 apps.

Yeah, I was really happy and surprised when I first got the new market and rotated my device to landscape.

Also, has anyone else noticed there's a special description area dedicated to recent changes when you have to update an app?

i agree on the looks. i like it alot better. now we just have to wait for the widgets section as they stated. should be in an update hopefully soon

landscape looks great. another feature that would be nice, would be an option for a video preview tab next to the photo previews

I get a error trying to install, Parsa or something like that. Will download again and see. MyTouch 3g Slide

Just happened 10 mins ago for me. I downloaded a game, didnt like it and went to look for another game. All of sudden the market was different. I was wondering when it was going to happen. Like it and it looks great. Samsung Captivate still 2.1 :( lol.
