We tend to not look too deeply into this sort of thing, because it's just far too easy to edit a build.prop file to show whatever Android version you want. But between our own Google Analytics, plus the help of a little bird or two, it's starting to look like there's an Android 3.1 version of Honeycomb undergoing testing.

We're not expecting this to be the convergence of Honeycomb and Gingerbread back into some uber-phone/tablet Android OS -- that's most likely going to be in the "I" version of Android. Hopefully we'll get a peek at that at Google IO here in a few short weeks. But in the meantime, we certainly wouldn't look down on an improved version of Honeycomb.

"Android 3.1 on this Google TV is pretty sweet."

Followed by "Sorry kids, NDA :)"

After getting my XOOM, I thought that Honeycomb would be perfect on my Google TV. Would make for a great argument for GoogleTV. Here one for hoping.

Honeycomb IS coming to Google TV. mark my words.

Quite frankly I don't even speculate about these things anymore. OS release dates especially. "We heard this" and "our sources say this" always amount to "You'll get it when the carrier says you can have it" (if you're not rooted). Very rarely does anything ever happen when it's speculated to happen. I.E. the Droid X was supposed to get Gingerbread how many weeks ago (officially, not a custom rom)

Exactly! That's why the opening of this article is so contradictorily funny;

I can't wait for 3.1. I hope this is the update to combine Google TV, Android for tablets and Android for phones. Exciting times to be an Android enthusiast.

Droid hungry says:

It could be. Remember eclair was 2.0 and 2.1 wasn't it?

dskwerl says:

I'm interested to see how Honeycomb will work on my Galaxy Tab, though I know it's going to be a long time before that is plausible. Even still, I'm totally digging it.

Warpoet says:

I just hope google addresses the various bugs and issues with Honeycomb ASAP. Perhaps, 3.1 is just the update to do it.

crxssi says:

Yeah, like the WiFi/DHCP issues and the seeming complete lack of USB Mass Storage mode.

mavricxx says:

I hope they can do a force close for programs the way Blackberry does and In addition to Airplane mode, add a wifi only mode so you can you the tablet or phone in wifi only. Also, Please add UMA to all your phones!

Just wanted to point out the update for flash 10.2 that references android 3.1 several times.
(it is showing up on the phones market and not the webpage market yet)

*edit: this has since been changed to just say upcoming android 3 update instead of android 3.1
