Google has announced that Dallas could be getting the company's Google Fiber TV and 1Gbps internet service.

In a blog post, Google stated:

Bringing Google Fiber to Dallas would be a huge undertaking, so we want to make sure we're prepared. Working alongside Mayor Mike Rawlings and local leaders, we'll use our Fiber checklist to learn more about local topography, existing infrastructure, and other factors that may impact construction. Building a fiber optic network through a dense and complex urban environment like Dallas is challenging—these discussions will help us deploy our network efficiently and responsibly.

Google Fiber is already available in parts of Austin, Texas, and the company is currently building the network in nearby San Antonio.

  • For the first time, I regret having FiOS. I live in Coppell, and I can't imagine that we'll see Google lay their fiber next to Frontier fiber. (was Verizon). Maybe Frontier will sell their (just purchased) network to Google! I won't hold my breath.

  • Where at? it's pretty sad that the small areas just outside 820 are stuck on 3 (or 6 Mbps) from AT&T (family/friends in Aledo and Burleson attest to this). Luckily, I'm in Fort Worth and have Charter 60 Mbps service but I'd love some competition and faster speeds!
  • I live in Rhome. Like ten minutes from Texas Motor Speedway. We can't even get Comcast here. We get stuck with overpriced crappy Internet companies. Posted via the Android Central App
  • that sucks. yeah, the whole area is in need of competitive broadband. quite pathetic, especially considering all the large company HQ's and influx of people into the area.
  • I went from 20x5 to 200x20 with TimeWarnerCable and now Dallas may eventually get Google Fiber. YESSSS. I live in the shadows of Down Town Dallas so bring it on.
