htc developer site

Better late than never, HTC has released the Linux kernel source code for the HTC Evo 4G and both GSM and CDMA HTC Hero updates.  This should allow the development community to address and improve some current issues (30 FPS cap anyone?) as well as work on new features to add (native JIT and Froyo for the Hero maybe?).  For any of you guys that gave in to the dark side and rooted your phone, be on the lookout for new treats from your favorite developers and ROM cookers.  And if you were on the fence, and this tilts you over the edge, check out the forums for directions and help getting your phone rooted. If I root my EVO, will the front camera still work? That's the only thing that has stopped me.

I did this method (worked out wonderfully except I can't test 4G because I am not in a 4G area and wont be for another week)

When I did that method I was still on pre-ota update where unrevoked still worked, and I had unrevoked 2 (clockwork mod). I basically had to start from scratch with this method, but I was able to backup apps, sms, call logs, etc.. so I almost didn't miss a beat =)

But with any mod use at your own risk =)

I think there is no way to root the evo after the 28th and 29th update... iv been looking for that. And yes, the fron facing xamera will still work after rooting.

Currently the EVO can't be rooted if you have the latest updates....and honestly, it isn't looking like there will be a root available at all, or at least for a good while.

Especially now that this code was released, I know where the DEVs are going to be spending their time.
