Atrix 4G

Motorola and AT&T are looking for a few people to soak test an unknown software update for the Atrix 4G. Here's where everyone get's excited and thinks OMG it has to be Ice Cream Sandwich, and we answer OMG no it doesn't have to be Ice Cream Sandwich. Let's not get our collective hopes up just yet.

We do know that invitations to participate in an early preview of a new software release are going out to folks with an AT&T branded Atrix 4G, who also happen to be in good standing at the Motorola Owners' Forums. In the past, these tests (known as soak tests) have ran the gamut from full-on OS updates to minor bug fixes. All updates need testing, and this is how Motorola does it.

If you meet the qualifications, and have expressed interest in testing updates, keep an eye on your inbox for the message. We'll know more when the test gets underway, and you guys will be the first ones we tell. The test of the email is after the break.

Thanks, Anon!

Timelessblur says:

Sorry way to little way to late. We were lied to plan and simple.

I dont see it being ICS, moto said its staying on gingerbread. Although I did revert back to stock today just in case.

jiro#AC says:

Hello! How did you revert to stock rom? Just in case it is true, so i can get mine ready... a site with the instructions would be fine. I am running cm7.2 now. Thanks in advance.

I found a fruitcake on the xda forum under the atrix 4g FAQ thread, how to go back to stock. I used clockwork mod recovery to install, didn't have to do any wipes either. I'm still rooted and unlocked, so not sure if that's gonna be a problem. I was running cm7 also

jiro#AC says:

Okay, I will check it out. Thanks once more and I hope we get it thus time around :)

Too late Moto. Already got my Nexus 4. I'm done with broken promises.

Cleveland2k says:

Yeah, I sold mine on ebay cause as I figured ICS wasn't coming and got me a Note. Glad I didn't wait because, I would have been waiting for the end of never.

Photon 4g owner here... So you're telling me there's a chance??!

It's great that the Atrix 4G is still receiving updates/bug fixes. However, there is no way that this phone will receive ICS. It's almost 2 years old; and it would've made more sense for Motorola to update the phone before reneging than afterwards.

jiro#AC says:

It is still possible to give ICS, just to favour the Atrix4g owners i guess. Well, anything goes now :)

Az Syndicate says:

I literally just sold my Atrix, like 2 days ago. :( OH Well I have a G-Nex now and I really dig getting Android updates at the front of the line.

Joe H. says:

I got this invite, and I still use my Atrix 4G as my daily. But I think I'm going to sit this one out, at least until I know what the update is. I'm very happy with my CM 10 / 10.1 roms. I'd hate to go back to a stock rom, and have the update lock the bootloader or something like the Photon received a few months back

Even if it is ICS, I wouldn't get too excited. I upgraded my Atrix 2 when it got ICS a few months ago, and it's been slow, laggy, and generally annoying to use. Most of the support forums are filled with the same complaint after the upgrade.

justinkyulee says:

I moved on myself.. traded in my Atrix 4g to get discount on my LG Optimus G for sprint. I was tired of the lies and moved on to quad core and update support to a up to date OS.

I want to find out information about upgrading the Motorola atrix

sportbirdv8 says:

I love my ATRIX 4g.

NeilGAtrix says:

I just updated on Friday and my Atrix is now very sick, as in,not well! It takes a while to start up. It can't hold a charge. I have trouble running apps now. And one of my email accounts cannot be synced. Please help!
