LG has the world's largest advertisement, and it's in Saudi Arabia

This isn't something you usually brag about — LG has announced it now has the Guinness World Record for the largest billboard advertisement ever made. The advertisement, which is right outside the Riyadh International Airport in Saudi Arabia, is two football fields long and stretches along a road leading into the airport. LG says it expects a good number of the 20 million people who visit the area to see the billboard.

That's a pretty impressive feat, and one that meets the lofty goal of living up to the airport, which is pretty impressive in itself. This just isn't something we're going to see every day — kudos, LG.

  • Im not a fan of neither the company or the country ¯\_(シ)_/¯
  • Either*
  • Actually the correct...correction, would be *nor, as neither is a negative connotation, which his comment is suggesting.
  • Yeah, I realized that a few seconds after but was too lazy to correct it. Lol.
  • You're so edgy. Posted via Android Central App
  • Either!
    The first guy was right.
Eg: I am not a fan of the company + I am not a fan of the country = I am not a fan of either the company or the country.
  • I think both one is correct. I am not a fan of neither the company nor the country.
I am not fan of either the company or the country. Both is grammatically okay.
  • I think: who cares?
  • Nope. Not negates neither. Posted via Android Central App on my HP TouchPad (Schizoid PAC-ROM 4.2.2)
  • Wouldn't it be better use of of comment, to alert Andrew to change the word "advertisement" in favor of the word "billboard"
  • "I'm not a fan of the company NOR the company. " Either not neither are not required. Posted via the Xperia Z4
  • Nope, you are so wrong. The word 'neither' and 'nor' both always would place in the same sentence. NOR never uses alone in a sentence. If does, that'd be grammatically incorrect.
  • Grammar Nazis got you. Nice article BTW. AC App via Nexus 5
  • LG just got advertising credit. Posted via my "G3 Modded" Sprint LG G2.
  • then used it all on this!

  • It doesn't look that big till you see the people standing there and you realise the scale. That's pretty damn big.
  • Exactly what I thought. I saw the picture and was like, that is not even close to being 2 football fields long.. Then I looked at the bottom right.
  • I thought the exact same thing when I saw it. It really does not look that big until you notice the people standing there. They provide a useful point of reference for determining the scale of the image. The thing is enormous!
  • I sure hope LG isn't burning all their money on things like this. Instead, I hope they've wisely invested in talent to OTA Android L before 2016...I have a funny feeling about their ability to update the G3, fast (i.e. Moto). See: G2.
  • You do know their marketing team and budget and their software team and budget are worlds apart and totally seperate right? as in any large corporation.
  • Sure, it was a general caution since they have yet to prove they will support their new money maker. I sure hope so. I like mine, but their OS update timeframe history is sketchy at best. All that advertisements to stay on 4.4.2 for the next 8 months? I sure hope not.
  • I could be wrong but something tells me that the g3 is not LGs money-maker. Their footprint is rather large.
  • Well of course. They make all sorts of things like Samsung. Regarding their mobile phone division, the G3 is a runaway hit like they've never had before (see the HUUUGE billboard). My point is they better not drop the ball on support/updates. :)
  • I hear ya. As a g3 owner I hope for the same.

  • Not a single bullet hole? Posted via Nexus 7 2013 or Galaxy S5
  • A bullet hole would be so insignificant on a sign that size... even a 1-inch hole (large for a bullet) would be lost in the 300K+ sq inches in that sign.
  • True Posted via Nexus 7 2013 or Galaxy S5
  • wtf is this racist shit ?
  • In rural areas in the US, most signs have buck shot in them. People just randomly shoot signs in the country. His comment has nothing to do with Saudi Arabia or Muslims. It was satire about US rural living.
  • Not a fan of the place. I cant think of anything good at all about the times Ive had to spend in that damn place.
  • They could bring it to a Formula 1 track like Abu Dhabi.
  • LG is stepping their advertisement game up. They're gonna have a lot of spare batteries and
    Charging cradles on their hands
  • Credit to LG, ever since I bought a Nexus 4 my estimation of the company has been raised to a new level, I'd rate them over Samsung for electrical purchases now. Posted via Android Central App
  • So essentially they've created an advertisement, and then advertised the advertisement.
  • This can't be the largest...
What about all those ads that are shown on buildings ? those take a lot of space...
  • Well makes sense since Saudi is about to get Millions of people from all over the world traveling for the hajj the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca in a couple of weeks.
  • True. I went to Hajj more than once. The amount of people that will go through this road will be incredible. I think it's genius from LG, advertising at such a large scale :) Posted via Android Central App
  • While you do have a point about increased traffic during the Hajj break (it's a national holiday), the pilgrims themselves never arrive in Riyadh, they arrive in Jeddah. (and will also leave from that region) which is on the exact opposite side of the country.
  • As a resident of Jeddah currently in Riyadh, I can confirm this.
  • Oooh, look at the tiny line of people there! Otherwise known as "The total number of folks that will stand in line for LG phones PreOrders" :) (Before you start pummeling, that was meant as a sarcastic JOKE... yes, we do kid around here sometimes... carry on)
  • How the desert winds don't blow that thing over, I'll never know.
  • Wonder how many G3's they could have bought for me with how much that cost. Posted via Android Central App
  • I drove by this in Riyadh a couple of days ago.
    It is terrifyingly large!
  • There is one in Dubai on a highway connecting Abu Dhabi and Dubai which is longer. It stretches THREE kilometers but is there is no ad on it yet. Samsung gonna go for it?
  • Just waiting on my Korean version of the G3 to reach my hands. Posted via Android Central App
