Howdy, folks, James Falconer here. I'm the Community & Developer Program Manager around these parts. If you're active in our forums or have answered one of our surveys, you've probably heard from me!
Early last year a startup called Timyo approached our newly minted developer program. They felt "email was broken" and had developed an app that would "fix email for good." To back their claims they provided us with some very interesting data. We were intrigued.
At Android Central and Mobile Nations we read and write thousands of actionable emails each year, so naturally we wanted to test their claims and verify their data. It was at this point that we launched our own "Email is Broken" survey. You might recall the survey, it went live in June of last year. We ran it for a few weeks, gave away some awesome prizes, and in the end came to some very interesting conclusions, including:
- 4 out of 5 email users are frustrated by the responses they get
- 63% felt the constant need to reply to an email ASAP
- 85% are ready to test a new app
- 95% claimed clear expectations would be useful
- 90% feel that clear priorities are key to increasing productivity
- 87% asked for a solution to let you know when a reply is pending
What's interesting here is the answers you gave us matched up almost 100 percent with Timyo's findings. It was at this point we were more than intrigued, we were hooked. We reached out to work directly with Timyo via our developer program. The goal here was simple — to help make Timyo as awesome as possible with the help, advice and feedback of our most awesome members. Members like YOU.
Timyo already is now available for iOS, and they're close to completion on their Android app. This is where you can help.
