Gingerbread: What's the holdup? [from the forums]

Android Central Forums member Hearthatvoiceagain asks the question that's on everybody's mind: Where is Gingerbread? Google CEO Eric Schmidt said Android 2.3 is coming in the next few weeks, but it's been a month since the Gingerbread statue was dropped off at the Google Campus, and still we have no announcement. And that's a break from tradition -- Cupcake, Donut and Froyo were announced within a couple of week of their statues' unveiling.

So what's the holdup? Is Gingerbread just not ready? Is that rumored delay of the Nexus S true, and so we have to wait for Gingerbread? Or maybe everything is going according to Google's plan?

And will Google unveil Gingerbread during a holiday week?
